  1. I agree that face, in this case, target detection, maybe very resource intensive, but as I'm not a programmer, I have no idea how intensive it actually is, in fact, not many people do. So maybe someone from ED or a professional programmer can set this once and for all. Cause all we are doing here is pure speculation. So here's my part of the speculation::music_whistling: There is a program called Camspace http://www.camspace.com/ It kind of does what Shval should be doing, track targets basically. And it does not use a lot of processing power. I didn't play with it for long cause my webcam can't do 30fps, so I'm not very sure, maybe someone can try it? Anyway, it's a cool app, so try it out. EDIT: Even if it does use a lot of processing power, GPGPU should be a possible solution, we are not letting our GPUs work very hard anyway. CUDA, ATI Stream, OpenCL already exist , so the possibilities are there. BTW, the new engine is much more important than this, so GET THE ENGINE OUT FIRST!
  2. I heard it will, I never tried it myself. I'm just not there yet. Last time I played "on the other side", I got my entire flight killed by two Mi-24s.:mad:So comparing to me, your flight is great.
  3. Great. Dont forget shift Y next time.
  4. Of course, I'm sure that as one of the best software makers I ever seen, ED had already considered that. But I'm still curious about this: cameras can recognize faces, so how difficult image processing really is? I mean, those chips in cameras can't be very powerful right? BTW, I do think this is not an important issue. The black shark is just so great that we only have this kind of unimportat matter to talk about.
  5. Or maybe OpenCL? So ATI guys won't be left out in the cold.
  6. I tried to connect my pc to my tv via HDMI once, everything's fine. But when I lunched the DCS, some how all the image is squeezed to the left 2cm of the screen, which is not usable at all. I went back to the monitor after that and never tried again. I think it may have something to do with the resolution set it DCS, maybe setting it to a low resolution like 800*600 before connecting to the tv and then set DCS to you tv's natve resolution after connecting the tv. Oh, Can I have the extra TV?:smilewink:
  7. I think processing power shouldn't be the problem here, even cameras have face recognisiong now, so maybe ED can fix that in a not so distant future? After all, Shkval isn't the only system that needs inage processing right?
  8. I think you should wait for the Windows 7, even if the 64 transition is already done. The speed increase can't justify the cost of an OS.
  9. I don't see why not. Actually I think it's somewhere in FAQ.
  10. Well, the best solution is simply buy it online, but if you really want the box version, it may be a long wait.
  11. Isn't it better to wait for the official release? It's not there yet, but it's coming.
  12. :helpsmilie: Where's the shut down button?
  13. Maybe, just maybe, one day somebody can do a first persone shooter mod so we can deliver not just AIs, but our friends as well.
  14. Yeah! Please, show us how it's done! Don't worry, I'll be piloting the SAR chopper. PS: It would be a good idea to get a SAR for my SAR too.:music_whistling:
  15. For a moment I really thought the first one is a real Ka-50. Too bad I don't know how to use photoshop.
  16. The only thing that can justify the waiting would be the new trimmer system which in theory is easier to use, but that's just a minor detail. Go buy it, and get some experience, so you can have even more fun once the patch is out, like landing on a train!
  17. Of course I'll buy it. But I would like it to be 100% english, I mean please use english names for buttons switches, etc. By the way, will I be able to buy it directly from http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com?
  18. Nice idea, but maybe you should plug the monitor 4 to the main video card, so when you use TH2G, you can use SLI. If you are using SLI or plan to use SLI in the future.
  19. Speaking of mods, is it possible for ED to intergrate hugely popular mod (utility) into DCS? Like touchbuddy for example?
  20. If you have 75$ to spend, you may want to forget a bout a good keyboard since it doesn't matter much and get the force 3d pro which has force feed back. http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/gaming/pc_gaming/joysticks/devices/297&cl=us,en
  21. The joystick you linked doesn't have a hat switch, so maybe you should pay a little more for this one. http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/gaming/pc_gaming/joysticks/devices/291&cl=us,en the extreme 3d pro is only 10$ more, and the hatswitch is very useful. If you look around, you probably can get it for a little over 20$. I had one before I bought the X52pro, it works fine for FSX, never tried it on black shark though.
  22. http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/short-stroking-hdd,2157.html It sounds cool, but you might want to think twice before doing it though. If you do have a few unused drive, you may wanna give it a try. You have nothing to loose anyway. EDIT: sorry, wrong link.
  23. Yes, I know we can't have real AI anytime soon. As the article I linked sais Well, in early 2008, IBM embarked on a project to digitally simulate the cerebral cortex of such a small mammal at the Thomas J Watson Research Center. The test used 8,192 processors and 2.8TB of memory on the Blue Gene-L supercomputer to simulate the 22 million neurons and 11 billion synapses found in the16cm2 cortical surface of a rabbit’s brain. So I'm talking about "fake AI" here. The goal of this kind of AI is to make NPCs a little bit human like. In DCS it mean things like using terrain for cover instead of just stay there and waiting to be shot. And NOT to land on top of another heli! (I saw this somewhere in this forum)
  24. Hello every one, this is my first thread, so, enjoy. Just found a very nice article about in game AI and would like to share it with everyone here. http://www.bit-tech.net/gaming/2009/03/05/how-ai-in-games-works/1 I've been playing for a week only and I already noticed that DCS's AI is not very smart. In the "on the other side" mission, the 2 SU-27 did nothing when 2 MI-24 shot down me and my 3 wingmen. (yes, I know I suck, but I'm still learning):music_whistling: Any way, I know this is because of the old engine and a new one will be out eventually. Here's the message for ED: PLEASE, MAKE IT PLANNING SYSTEM BASED!!! I've played The elder scroll 4 Oblivion which has planning system for AI and the NPCs are pretty smart. If I disarm them and take away their weapon, they would run to the nearest weapon and pick it up. If I steal all the food from someone's house, he would go out and buy food, if I steal his money as well, he would go hunting or stealing. Imagine a DCS world with that kind of AI! The GPGPU is interesting too. The current engine uses heavy script, which eats a lot of CPU power, and some of us have some good GPUs sitting there being bored. So PLEASE, CONSIDER GPGPU! If we want to make a huge battlefield with all kinds of units running around, GPGPU would be more than helpful. I don't know about you, but I can wait for another year or 2, maybe 3 just for these 2 features. Let me know what do you think.
  25. If you're not using the SST software and use the built-in option like I am. You should assign colective to the throttle (z axe I think) then zoom to slider. Then using zxe tune (tune axe?) check if you got the correct axe, you need to invert the slider so you push it away from your thump to zoom. You may want to invert the throttle too so you pull to give more collective, some people prefer push it for more power though. BTW, mine is a X52 pro so it may be kind of different.
