  1. A good summary of the issues. I would only add in defence of the F14 that flap damage modelling has been indicated as coming soon which should hopefully put people off using high speed full out flaps when they know they will get stuck out with the wings.
  2. I can appreciate where Metzer is coming from. You guys appeared to be quite "focused" on sinking ships to the extent of ignoring threats. I have a tacview of my MiG21 taking down three Viggens heading out on a strike, including you two, with minimal reaction. But this could also be down to lack of situation awareness and co-ordination.
  3. Aye, it seems to be functional again. Thanks, perhaps it was a momentary issue and someone had pounded the ground defences / run out of ammo.
  4. Aye, another way of doing this which means you can use the normal shortcut with the registry edit. Whichever way I think for the good of all DCS players if ED implemented it as part of the standard install. I suspect a lot of MP jitters are down to people's machines struggling and stuttering.
  5. This is it, did pretty much the same thing. Disabled G-lock single player, practices some turns, reviewed in tacview. The F16 itself seems to be performing well enough, not so much the pilot G-lock modelling. I had guessed the same, that we currently have a G-lock model across all aircraft and effort would be required to implement aircraft specific G-lock modelling.
  6. Yup, in an ideal world everyone would be on comms, whichever option but ideally the same one for each server.
  7. Ground defences appear to be missing from the heat seeker area airfields, guessing this was a side effect of the update? Or was this deliberate? Great server, thanks for running it btw :D
  8. +1 This is getting somewhat frustrating while trying to use the F16 for dogfighting pvp.
  9. I think you've been quite fair on this and warned people multiple times it was a stopgap solution. As much as I love the Harrier I look forward to hopefully replacing the Ab8b with an FRS.1
  10. Limited all aspect capability is not a reliable hit against a competent opponent who flares, granted it could put them on the back foot if you get tone. Atm the situation with the aim9m is a return to a much bigger disparity imo. Despite enjoying the Harrier I feel similarly about its capability at the moment. Edit: Realised in my original post I mentioned aim9p, i had meant this to mean the aim9p series i.e. the aim9p and aim9p5 but appreciate this was not clear.
  11. I wondered, that period with the Aim9p and R60 being the best heaters was fun.
  12. Was there a plan to go back to rear aspect IR only?
  13. Hi, Many of us who fiddle a bit more with computers know DCS runs smoother when it is adjusted to have a higher than normal priority in the Windows task manager. Currently the DCS launcher, effectively DCS_updater.exe invokes DCS.exe with normal process priority, hence a user is required to manually intervene to increase the process priority to enable a smoother gaming experience. One can create a custom shortcut, such as that below assuming a d:\ DCS install, to invoke DCS.exe with high process priority: C:\Windows\System32\cmd.exe /c start "DCS" /high "D:\Program Files\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World\bin\DCS.exe" (Note to other users, using DCS.exe directly skips the DCS update check but I couldn't find a way of using DCS_Updater.exe while carrying across the high priority invocation. I don't believe this is possible as a user.) However, I think if ED could implement a revised shortcut / DCS_Updater.exe invocation to include this elevated process priority as standard for all DCS installs it would improve users' SP and MP experience. Potentially free performance improvement! Apologies if this has already been suggested, but search didn't bring back any results. UPDATE: The Regedit way of assigning priority to processes is arguably the better method if you are comfortable editing the registry, see posts below for details
  14. I played like this for years, using a hat switch for view, but given a delanclip or trackhat is available for €40-50 or less DIY it really is a worthwhile upgrade. Padlock makes things a bit easy.
  15. That was a fun session, I really liked the part where a Viggen and two tigers happened upon an SA2 site and finished it off. Sorry I had a go at people for entering the runway without looking but it was getting annoying and repetative having to dodge people while taking off :(
  16. Thank you DCSNZA and BIO for a great stream and conversation on being a RIO. Also, BOLTER BOLTER :p (says the guy who has yet to get the basket on the S3)
  17. I gotta admit, I didn't realise there was an SRS for the server. I did look but only recently noted the SRS IP. Will give it a try next time I am online. I do find it a tricky situation when a server support multiple voice chat technologies rather than just saying "this is the one", having to check see which is most populated.
  18. Man, that is a pretty cool capability (jamming triangulation). Cheers for the detailed update, as ever can't wait to try out the A and Forrestal.
  19. The radar, the T/W, the manoeuvrability, the camera, the fuel load and Jester, for starters. There are servers already out there that have F14 without Phoenix in a semi-active environment. Usually labelled as 1980's servers or similar.
  20. Also no to the F14, the server is good as it is. Perhaps if there was a MiG23 to counter if, but even then it feels like the F14 would carry too much capability / power.
  21. There are cold war "1980" servers already available. GS run one, try searching "80" or "1980" for Aim7/R27 action.
  22. You've got to keep eyes on the bandit, recognise when he has a good shot (i.e. pulling lead pursuit on your 6) and when they don't. When they don't have a good IR shot use throttle, if it looks like they have a good IR shot be ready to drop throttle. If they take the IR shot drop throttle, flare and ideally also change direction if you have the energy.
  23. Heatblur have mentioned they will make the flaps more fragile in a future update, as irl even 225knots was known to cause issues. The current flaps cheese will end quickly once this update arrives, locks the flaps out and stops the wing from sweeping. Also, the F16 in that video is hardly flying optimally. edit: apologies for making points that were already made, clicked on this thread and only read the front page and thought this was the entire conversation heh.
  24. I would also recommend being careful with a number of YouTube sources for guidance on this matter, but particularly the Grim Reapers who are fairly ineffective at air combat despite their YouTube following. I have found staying fast (~400 knots, always >300 knots), dropping throttle while flaring (1-2s), pulling max rate performance turn changing direction and spamming 3-4 flares to be effective. You will need to initiate a response on the expected threat, an R60 or Aim9p will be lost fairly easily. Missiles like the R73 and Aim9x will take some serious G and luck to lose though. With smoothness on the stick the F14 will retain energy fairly well, like most fighters try to stay around 14-17 units aoa and, for the F14, 330knots for best sustained (without gaming the flaps). Coincidentally ~300-350 knots is usually about the 6 o'clock position on the speed gauge. Given the HUD doesn't display speed practice keeping an eye on the position of this gauge, and the aoa gauge, and try not to read the value. The wings can also give you, and your enemy, a speed indication. If the wings are not forward you are not at best sustain speed, but your roll rate will be better.
  25. This seems to still be an issue, tonight while flying with another F5 against a MiG21 it was incredibly tricky to get the sidewinder to track the MiG rather than the F5.
