  1. I disagree about the tutorials being the advantage of DCS. These tutorials are better than nothing, of course, but they are essentially non-interactive machinima movies, whereas current technology allows to create much better tutorials.
  2. DCS:BS has a keyboard glitch: the keyboard simply stops working for short random periods of time, so this might be it. I blamed this behaviour on my radio keyboard at first, but it only appeared in DCS:BS and mostly with the pause function, yes.
  3. http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=675332&postcount=472 One of the developers said that the patch is out "early summer unless something goes wrong". That's definitely not May :/
  4. According to my manual, the message is displayed on EKRAN at "extremely low altitude with negative vertical speed and speed<30 kmh", and is repeated with voice warning system.
  5. Dear ED community managers, are there any news regarding English wiki for wiki.eagle.ru?
  6. Check if your mouse is setup in options-controls properly. LAlt-C enables mouselook, unless you messed with it in the options. - Make sure the lock-on frame is sitting on the target properly (not just snapping to target's tail). - Make sure you are firing from correct distance, maintaining low angular speed and keeping your helicopter relatively stable -- otherwise you spray bullets all over the sky - Make sure the correct attack mode is enabled on ПВР (don't know how to call it in English, see the panel here, you need to engage the ВЦ "air target" mode with the left-bottom button of the four square buttons in the bottom of the panel) The gun shoots at whatever Shkval is looking at, whether the target is locked or not. Turn off Shkval, switch on cannon, and you will see an aiming mark -- it's the ballistically corrected point of impact (the correction takes into account your speed, height and movement). Aim and shoot, like unguided rockets.
  7. I play with a Saitek Cyborg Evo (simple joy with a twist), and I don't even want pedals. I do want a trackir, yes..
  8. You should get a voice message to put the gear down every time you descend lower than 50m. Don't you?
  9. Is it comparable to loading times of other minutes? Can you post a link so someone else can confirm the files are ok?
  10. .miz are mission files. Start BS, select Missions, choose desired file, press "fly".
  11. Nope, no official statements. Around May for all I know.
  12. For rearming, if ground crew confirms, you just wait about a minute. Can use time-warp function if you want. Rearming is possible while completely still on ground in the airport space (not necessary parking, just 150m from the center point). To communicate with the ground crew you have to either: - open the door, turn off ALL engines, stop the rotor and use the radio commands (which work as "shouting" in this case) - switch the radio to ground crew channel (НОП on УКВ-2) and use the radio commands (which work as communicating over a headphone cable attached to the helicopter). The fun part is to try to lift off when you are in this mode, the ground crew dispatcher starts yelling "wtf you're doing man!" , because you are trying to lift him off by the headphone cable :)))
  13. Some missions do start in a cold helicopter. I think it's a good thing they don't because when you are trying to beat a certain mission for 11th time, you start hating the whole first part including the fly-in.
  14. This kind of arrogance does not let you go faster than 175, I think.
  15. 99% of the time you use satnav or just punch the numbers into a calculator so you don't care if it's knots or m/s or even yards/minute. 1% of the time you calculate everything yourself, which is an awful lot of things to calculate, so changing it from m/s to km/h should go unnoticeable. So, again, why care?
  16. When exactly do you have to calculate wind speed for navigation (unless we're talking single-seat attack hot-air balloon here)?
  17. Не люблю я эти обзоры с закосом "под литературу". Насчет аркадности -- так, наверное, они свою аудиторию неплохо представляют, на неё и работают. Очень верно заметили: озвучка (голоса) действительно ужасна.
  18. In my country DCS:BS costs 11 (eleven) EUR, roughly twice as cheap as blockbusters like Assassin's Creed or GTAIV. I think ED never really focused on such things as marketing&advertising or optimised performance. Their primary focus is on flight model and avionics simulation as well as building a semi-open architecture, and they did an excellent job here. I guess it's not that easy to build a game that sustains 25 different 3d-party amateur addons and actually works better with them, is it?. And simulation stuff is superb. So I guess in the end things work out the way ED wants them: they devote maximum available time to simulation and open-platform stuff, the rest is done by community: optimised textures, skins, varied campaigns and scenarios, performance enhancement utilities, addon developer tools as well as numerous tutorials and trainings, even tech support. This is a truly 21st century and Web 2.0 (Gamedev 2.0?) approach. And taking into account the nature of simmer community, it should be this way.
  19. Hi Tim, please don't take my comment too seriously, I did find the published review somewhat superficial and not in-depth but that was probably not your fault, you had to meet format and length requirements, too. Welcome to the forums and I hope you will love BS as much as anyone here :) Cheers!
  20. No, not LAPD, but you're thinking in right direction :) PS. Or maybe LAPD skin based on a car, not on actual aviation unit. Their black-and-white cars rock! Before you suggeted it I was thinking more towards UK police skins (car-based and helicopter-based).
  21. Hi all, this is my first skin so I am posting only a preview (so I commit to finishing this skin), please let me know what you think. Suggestions, comments and constructive criticism are welcome. Cheers!
  22. Am I missing something or you missed the PAINT6 file in the table on page 32? It's the flare containers.
  23. A very shallow review. Looks like the reviewer read DCS advertisement, then unpacked the game, flew around for 20 minutes and wrote it. "Tanks can shoot", great job, Computeractive!
  24. The anti-ice warning system works this way: - it's a special sensor that senses ice on it - once the ice is 0.4mm or thicker, it simultaneously a) sets off the alarm and b) engages the sensor heater - the sensor heater defrosts the sensor for 160 seconds, then disengages SO, you will receive icing warnings repeatedly when flying in icy conditions. Even with full heat on.
  25. This is because ДИСС (Doppler radar to measure speed and crosswind, not sure of English name) is not functional in the first 2-3 minutes of flight. You have to sit still until it "heats up" and starts working. You can see it's operational when speed indicator shows up in the upper left corner of HUD. The autopilot will act haywire until the system is operational, this is why you can't hover. Patience is the key. All the time. Basically, after every evolution of the helicopter.
