My old HDD where DCS (Steam) was installed has failed. I have a new SSD now. The only thing I was able to save from the old install is the Saved Games folder and its contents. What kind of project am I looking at in terms of rebuilding the install? Is it as simple as re-downloading and saving to the new drive? I'm guessing it's not that simple. Please help. Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the response. Here is what Steam Support says, when I follow their flow-chart: "Unfortunately, DCS World Steam Edition does not utilize Steam to manage its items. You will need to contact their Support Team for any questions about your items in that game." I'm not quite sure what to do next. Is it a DLC issue? In the Library // DCS properties // DLC tab, it lists 7 modules, from Supercarrier to F14 to Syra to Marianas. But I don't see DCS World itself listed there. Maybe that's normal. I'm not sure. Thanks, and please let me know if there is something I'm supposed to do.

Sorry if this is a dumb question, but... I've had DCS (Steam) on my computer for a long time, and I have auto-updates enabled. I've always kept it current. It's been about 3 weeks since I played DCS. But just now when I tried to run it, it wants to "Install" a massive 210 Gig download. Not update, but "Install"--as if DCS is not even on my computer. Is that normal? It feels "off" to me. Thanks in advance for any guidance

Ok thanks for the help!

Thanks for the reply. I'm thinking more for Supercarrier communications. Mother gives a lot of info for Case 3 approaches and trying to remember it all might be easier if I saw it.

Sorry for a dumb question . . . I really have searched the forum, but all the search terms are too general. Anyway, how do I get the radio communications to show as text? I'm sure there's a simple key press, but I can't figure out what it is. (I'm in VR if that makes a difference.)

True that!

Apropros of nothing: About a month ago I bought 60 shares of AMD stock at $49.50. This afternoon it's at $73+ in after-hours trading. Which means I will definitely be upgrading to a primo Ryzen.

Thanks for the feedback guys.

Running VR, and I feel like I can get a better experience by upgrading, and I have the idea that my CPU is the weakest link. But maybe that's not the right way to think. Do you think I could get more improvement by upgrading my ram to @ 3200?

What would be my best option to simply replace the i7-7700 (no k) with maximum improvement & minimum hassle? I'm not really into over-clocking and I don't want to mess with fancy cooling systems. I'm not tech savvy enough to trust myself on that stuff. Or is simple replacement not an option? My budget is probably ~$500. Current system: CPU: i7 7700 (no k) GPU: RTX 2070 Super Mother: ASRock B250M Pro4-IB Ram: 32G @ 2400 Power Supply: 750W Any help or suggestions is appreciated.

how to make SAR helicopter have same speed as carrier
Bluecat replied to probaco's topic in DCS: Supercarrier
I think wind effects the helo but not the carrier. I made a basic SC mission with a helo alongside. But because DCS imputs the wind backwards in the mission editor (and because I didn't know this) the first time I ran it the carrier had a tailwind, making it impossible to do recoveries. But I noticed the helo moved gradually ahead of the ship. When I reversed the wind in the mission editor to provide a headwind, the helo gradually fell back from the ship. -
The cold start mission that came with SC was just barely playable for my "decent" but not great system in VR. So I made a mission with just a few statics and a few departing AIs. It works great. Very smooth.

Thanks for the clarification.

Related question: Are we supposed to remain in our flight group during the overhead stack and throughout the pattern? All the way up till the overhead break? I had thought that the stack was solo, so as to create separation.
-
So when we enter the Case 1 holding stack above the carrier, we do that as a flight group? And then we leave the stack and fly the approach with the flight group until the break? Is that right? I had assumed that we were solo (to maintain separation) as we entered the stack and all the way through the remainder of the pattern.

Is it just me or does the sequence from 12:05 to 12:07 look a bit dangerous? If he's a split second slow in reacting, that's a collision.
-
Where can we find information on that? I see there is a free trial period, but as a Steam user, I have no idea how to access any of it. The icons on the home page in the sim offer a chance to "buy" the modules, but I see nothing about the free trial. Is there a link somewhere?

As I understand it, Combined Arms is not for VR... Is that right?

Thanks for the info!

Sorry to be dumb . . . But what's CA?

OK I think I figured mine out. My antivirus software installed an update about a month ago that I'd forgotten about, and it was running some sort of operation in the background. I turned that off and it seems to be running normally again.

Just tried again. No luck. Unplayable. I counted this time, and there are very consistent stutters that occur 35 or 40 seconds apart, indefinitely.

The only think I can think of is that NVidia pushed through a driver update recently.
