I'm running my sim gear off a powered usb hub. So I tried plugging into a usb port off the back of the PC. No change. I have restarted Windows several times. The power down was the last option. I reinstalled the drivers to every USB device. No change. Right now I have it unplugged from the PC, altogether, thinking maybe a complete power drain from the electronics of the throttle might do the trick. GaryR, yes. When I look in the game controller control panel, the throttle doesn't show up. I do usually run a Target script for the throttle, but I didn't start that up at all.

This just started today... Windows won't recognize my throttle: Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed). I've tried a different usb port, uninstalling and reinstalling the device, disabling and re-enabling the device. Powered off the PC and unplugged, left it for about 5 minutes to be sure all power was drained. Started everything up and plugged the usb devices in, one at a time. All works fine, except the throttle. Also reinstalled the Thrustmaster drivers, to no avail.

Finally got everything working. Thanks for all the assists in here! Going to test Link cable vs Air Link/Virtual Desktop over wifi 6 this weekend. It would be nice to get the same speeds (or at least nothing noticeable) over wifi so that cable isn't hanging off my head. FYI: If you use Virtual Desktop (the app), and turn on color enhancement, it turns on HDR. Virtual Desktop handles HDR just fine; Link does not. I didn't know VD was turning on HDR, so I thought it was disabled. Between that and assigning the Oculus server app to the Nvidia power management option, everything looks great now.

Nice! Thanks! I had a button mapped to center TrackIR. I'll just use the same one for VR.

Did something change with the new update, as far as VR goes? It feels like I am sitting farther back in the cockpit; the seat is almost completely in front of me now. I've tried adjusting forced PD, but it doesn't seem to change anything.

In English, it's "Tooltips". And thank you!

How do I turn the cockpit labels off?
-
Couldn't agree more! There seems to be a more life-sized look about it all. Able to glance at the carrier or airfield and put her down. Something I wasn't fully getting in TrackIR.

It's all good. I made progress today! That is a good idea to disable the onboard graphics that I don't even use. I have my monitor connected to Nvidia via display port. It gets me 164hz! I dropped it to 120, in case it was messing with things - maybe I need to drop to 60hz and see if Air Link works. Using the paid version of Virtual Desktop is working far better. I am getting 90hz through it, and it has an option for 120hz that I haven't tried yet. I'm going to test out dropping to 80 or 60 to see if I can get the little bit of stuttering (ground graphics) down. You mentioned rolling down the runway. Have you landing on the carrier yet?? Wow! You hear the thump, thump, thump all around you as as you catch the wire - you almost FEEL it. Impressive, for sure.
-
Everything seems to connect fine, until I open the desktop. If I do the graphics tweak in windows/oculus overlay, the "power saving" option (which runs via the built-in graphics off the motherboard) leaves me with a black screen; using the "high performance" option (which runs through the Nvidia card) leaves me with a black screen - but if I point the controller at the screen and press the trigger button, I can see the screen, however, it is as if I am right-clicking the mouse button. When I let go of the trigger button, black screen.

Thanks, Recluse! It's the settings you mentioned that may make the difference. I will thy them out!

v29? I'm not getting any prompt to update. Version is current.

Attempting to set up VR using Quest 2. Oculus Link and Air Link are NOT functioning at all - I just get a black screen, and when I point the controller to it and press the trigger button, the screen shows up but I can take no other action. I am SO over trying to troubleshoot that crap (25 years of IT experience, here). So I bought Virtual Desktop. It functions fine. With that said, do I still need Oculus Tray Tool or Steam VR? I don't do anything through Steam, so is that really needed? I'm trying to get to that awe moment that everyone talks about. I see so many saying they're never going back to 2D, but gotta be honest, the koolaid isn't looking good ;). So far, I am not impressed...graphics are sub-par, a lot of glimmering and stuttering. But I want to give this thing a fair shake. Both the software (not needed for Virtual Desktop) and headset are on ver 28. Any suggested settings would be appreciated. I tried a lot from Youtube, but to no avail. You can see my specs below, in my sig. Thanks

Quest 2: Anyone tried AirLink yet
Wolf359 replied to VR Flight Guy in PJ Pants's topic in Virtual Reality
Several of the new features weren't coming up for me, too. I did the factory reset and it was all there. Is there a way to backup the data so that you can simply reinstall her games and pop the data back down? -

I got pretty bad lag at first. Then I adjusted my bit rate to default and it lessened, but still some there. The biggest issue I have is that when I connect to desktop, it flickers terribly when I point my controller at the window. I am getting that with Air Link and Link, both. I'm running "pretty good" on Virtual Desktop for the time being. One of my problems may be that I am running completely wireless. Meaning, I am not connected to my router via ethernet. I am going to try hooking up via a cat 8 cable tonight and see how it goes. -
I'll go over my issues with each setup: Link: cable tests fine and Link connects just fine. However, when I run virtual desktop (not the 3rd party app), and the connection is made, as soon as I point either controller at the area, the entire desktop image flickers, tears, and goes blank - in the headset only. I take the headset off and the computer monitor is fine. The Virtual Desktop streamer is installed on the PC but not running. The APP is installed on the headset, but not opened. Virtual Desktop App: Is running fine. The resolution is grainy, and the DDI/MFD screen text is a bit blurry unless I physically lean closer. The overall resolution is poor enough that I can't spot the Dubai runway until I am almost on top of it - but THAT might be more realistic than spotting it from 12 miles out. All that said, I followed a harpoon in until it struck its target - that was quite a ride!

Another question: if I use a power bank to prolong time in flight, I cannot use the Link cable - correct?

New to VR, here. Just got the Quest 2 last weekend. I was about 5 minutes from shipping this POS back to Amazon when I came across this thread. It's been a nightmare to get this thing set up this week. But I think it's MY fault because I might have too much installed/running at once. Not to mention the overload my brain is feeling from all the YouTube vids I've watched and tried. I tried Link, but wasn't impressed with the speed rating of my cable (3rd party), so I tried Virtual Desktop. In the meantime, I returned the cable and got one rated for 5gb speed (it tests at 1.9gbps in the setup program). Right now, VD runs smoother than Link. Link is unusable, flickering like crazy whenever a controller pointer hits the screen. And I can't for the life of me get decent enough resolution in the cockpit to read the MFD/DDI screens. I am running the Oculus Tray Tool. My system specs are: i7-9th gen 4.6hz 32gb ddr4 Nvidia 2070 Super 8gb --do any of these settings even matter, given that we're not running VR off the card?

Quest 2 or rift s with 2700x and gtx1080. Is the quest 2 feasible?
Wolf359 replied to Skwirl865's topic in Virtual Reality
Ok, after seeing how things look in 2.5.6, I have regained some faith in my purchase. I also need to check if there are any Nvidia settings I need to tweak, even though it seems VR isn't run through the card? -

I am also going to install SR 2.5.6 to get a better idea of how things are supposed to look. -

Yes, the resolution looks a bit better, and the contrast is better - with wireless, that is. I'll give this a try. I'm running a RTX 2070 Super, clocked to 2080 specs. -

Overall, I'm having better luck wireless than Link. Still trying to get used to using mouse or controller. I'm still on the fence about VR, but I'm hoping some tweaking will change my mind. -

Definitely, IN the cockpit is nice, and the movement of the plane is nice. I noticed there is not a lot of sense of moving fast, but maybe that gets better when low to the ground. I'm glad to know that the cockpit res issues are new to 2.7, because at first I was wondering what drugs all the VR players were taking! LOL I'm going to upgrade my Link cable to one that is spec'd out to 5 Gbps today. Found a third party cable that is $20 cheaper than the one Oculus puts out. I was able to launch successfully from the DCS Utility program. I also reinstalled the Oculus software, which appeared to clear things up on that side. -

Yes. I picked up the Quest 2 Saturday. But I gotta say, NOT IMPRESSED with VR. Resolution really sucks at this point; I can't even read the DDIs in the hornet. I'm still trying a few tweaks. It might be the cable I got; though it shows up at USB3 (I have it plugged in to a 3.1 Gen 2 port), the speed on the cable is only 866 kbps. Should I cough it up and pay the $80 for the Oculus Link cable?
