Done some testing in lue of some new PC Parts tomorrow..
CptBligh replied to The_Nephilim's topic in Virtual Reality
I don't fly the Apache much, but I took it for a spin on the Range instant action mission on Caucuses and I was staying around 75-90FPS depending on where I was looking with my 12700k 5ghz/4080S/Aero combo -
If you're set to 90hz you'll get 90 FPS with ASW disabled assuming your system is capable. ASW is locking you down to 45 as your GPU can't maintain 90 FPS if set to Auto or you have it permanently enabled.

I saw this posted on techpowerup but I haven't verified the numbers. Pretty sad if true and I remember my 1070 matching the 980Ti.

When I had my Reverb I used a 6900XT and it worked well at the time. My Reverb died a year ago so I upgraded to a Varjo Aero that I found out the hard way only supported nvidia cards, so 4080 Super it was as I didn't want to pay $2000 for a 4090 that late into it's run. I think 7900XTX or 4080 Super would be a good option if prices decline before stock runs out once the 5080 is available. The 5080 performance doesn't seem worth it what it will cost relatively IMO.

Advice Required: Can I update this rig for a smooth VR experience?
CptBligh replied to nachinus's topic in Virtual Reality
7800X3D would require DDR5 RAM and a new mobo. I'd probably grab a RTX 5080 when they come out and then go from there. -
I'm responding to the CPU behavior he questioned that is related to AVX being enabled by default in P95 and lower AVX offset clockspeeds from his BIOS. "Selecting the Instruction Set Extension By default, Prime95 automatically selects the newest instruction set extension, such as AVX, AVX2, or even AVX-512. In order to change this behavior, Prime95 needs to be started and completely shut down again once. This will create the local.txt file. In it, exclusions are assigned a value of 0, whereas the code path that’s to be tested is assigned a value of 1. If you aren’t clear as to which SSE version is supported by your CPU, both can be set to 1. Prime95 will choose the correct fallback."

New to VR, I have some questions please.
CptBligh replied to Aussie Pilot's topic in Virtual Reality
More RAM will only help if you are exceeding the physical memory usage, symptoms are usually prolonged stutters where the system begins paging memory to your hard disk. You can use something like HWINFO64 to monitor this and many other things. It has no affect on graphic quality nor will it give you faster frame rate. Your system is pretty old for a good VR experience. Throwing in a 5800X3D, 32GB RAM (64GB for large online servers) and a new GPU would go a long way, but you're mostly to the point of needing a whole new system. I can't help with your other questions related to the Quest. -
what kind of quality I should expect from AMD 7900XTX on VR
CptBligh replied to Joker Shadow's topic in Virtual Reality
@TED is the only active poster I recall with a 7900 and he likes it. Several of us have 6900s that have been fine, but I think it's general agreement with most that team green is better at VR. I'm looking at grabbing a 4080/4090 for use with Varjo Aero since my Reverb died and Varjo doesn't support AMD. -
7900, 4080 or wait for 4080 Super end of January. 6900XT with Reverb here

Help should I buy 4070TI or 7900XTX?
CptBligh replied to Flameout777's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
My 6900XT has been fine in DCS and IL2 though it could always be better of course. My biggest issue seeing that you're also a Reverb issue is that the Varjo headsets only work with team green if that is a possible upgrade consideration in the future. I would've already pulled the trigger on the Aero myself but I'm kinda in the same boat as you right now regarding GPU. -

It's hard for me to recommend the current gen GPUs when they have now been out for a year with no real decrease in price. Maybe the 4xxx Super releases in January will provide some pressure. I'm biased, but if you can still find a 6900/6950xt or RTX 3080 in the $500 range it's a pretty decent value to get by until hopefully the RTX 5xxx. Dropping $2k on a 4090 at this date just doesn't make sense to me.
