Radar elevation always full up 99/99?
cptmrcalm replied to Stinger's topic in Controller Questions and Bugs
Mine too is stuck at 99/99. The default assigned button on the cougar works fine for changing the scale of the antenna but the slider doesnt. For the other sims, the slider works fine. for what is worth - will keep an eye out to see if this is fixed soon. -
Just to add my hat into the ring - mine too suffers with this issue. Everything else works fine using the slider. The default control assignment using the f16 works ok to move the elevation, but the slider definitely jumps 99/99 on both scales.

Hi guys. Did a quick search on this forum - couldn’t find this issue? I have a couple of rotary knobs for use as input devices and i have assigned them to the "program" and "mode" functions of the chaff and flare panel of the F16. (rotate one way "button #" rotate the other "button #".) Luckily, you can assign a CW and CCW for the knobs in game and i have assigned these as button 18 (for CCW) and button 19 (for CW) for the "program" rotary switch. The "mode" rotary switch works fine with the physical switch mimicking the ingame rotary switch, but the "program" doesn’t. You can rotate 2 clicks ok (CW) but when you click on the third click the rotary knob reverts automatically back to the beginning in game. Which I think starts at "Bit". using the mouse, I can rotate the knob to where I want it to be - so its not that the function in game is broken. It seems something inside the code - the configuration - something that is saying ok - 3rd click back to 0 or something. As if the game thinks that there is only 3 stages to the knob. (terrible explanation, but I am hoping that a developer will think: "Ah.. i think i know what he's getting at"..) I appreciate its early access - but i have a feeling this one will be something new and not found before? havent tried the rotary in any other jet yet. - but i suspect it will be fine. (havent found a use for them yet for the f18. that plane doesnt have the same "program" and "mode" that the f16 has) hope this helps.

F16 Control setup before next release?
cptmrcalm replied to cptmrcalm's topic in Controller Questions and Bugs
Bah. I'll just add in my inputs. What the heck. If I gotta do it again later because of a major change. So be it. Not the end of the world I suppose. I use a Warthog and my own personal 20 button USB input device- so its not that bad. The rest are using the mouse in game to click things. Useful to know all of this though - so thanks for the input. NeilWillis response had me getting myself more comfortable - shifting closer to the screen to read out again. Like one of those drunk guys at the bar you sometimes come across. lol. -
F16 Control setup before next release?

Hi Rudel, That might not work? if the bindings are changed and you load back in keybindings that are no longer there? If you get my meaning... -
F16 Control setup before next release?
cptmrcalm replied to cptmrcalm's topic in Controller Questions and Bugs
Ok. Thanks. I'll leave it then methinks. At the moment, its just a bit of fun and nice to have as a free-flight plane. Best. -
Hi Wags/Team. Listened to you on the Fighter Pilot Podcast with Jello yesterday. Can I get your autograph? I thought your voice was put on for the promo videos on youtube - but listening to that I realise it really is your voice. :) (bear with me as I begin) I was dogfighting with the F16 yesterday and couldn’t shake off a mig21 because I had drop tanks still attached. I pressed the button I setup in the controller page to drop the tanks and they wouldn’t come off. I pressed even harder -as hard as I could and they still wouldn’t come off. Then I found out its not implemented yet. Early access etc. Fair enough. My question is: Is it worth me setting up my controls for what I can now? (Even to features that dont work yet) Would an update to the F16 remove all of my key bindings? perhaps because features may change the bindings.? What I am getting at is i'd hate to program them all for what will only be a few flights (cant really use the f16 effectively yet) and then have to redo them all every time an update comes out. Its not a problem either way - but was hoping to avoid the efforts. thanks.

"Oh Gerrard...." *shakes head and taps your shoulder.* *blinks slowly and nods in agreement* "So do I bud...." *sighs and then stares out to the horizon* "...so do i" Actually, now I've come back to my senses. Just curious Humming Bird. You found any data? whats the update on your impressions? (i get that you are not hating on the sim. Just trying to offer constructive criticism) Just out of interest -I felt right at home with the jet. It all felt familiar. I took it for a spin and did some twists and turns. "felt" like it "should". at least - for me anyway.

AI weird flying behaviour
cptmrcalm replied to cptmrcalm's topic in Aircraft AI Bugs (Non-Combined Arms)
Hi there. Finally managed to get a bunch of F15e's to refuel with a tanker. Flew up to them and formation flew with the last of the 4 ship. Watched the first refuel fine. When done, he fell back. Well back actually. Like - very far! (maybe just trying to follow the waypoints again. Thought he would wait for the crew to finish and then they would all fly off together to continue their waypoints?) When the rest of the bunch moved to take up their positions it was like Darth Vader was onboard the KC135 and "forced pulled" them towards the tanker! lol They slid sideways as if on rails.! Second one went in and refuelled ok too, but the third decided it might be fun to just sit 10 meters above the tanker and stay there for the entire time. Out of curiosity - I was able to intervene and refuel my own jet. I did this in the hope that it might somehow "wake" the AI up. But it didn’t. He just stayed there. I post this - not to bash the sim or to exercise a bit of hate. Far too old to be a troll. Its just something I think anyone would agree is quite a serious bug. I wondered if something was being done about it and when we were likely to see fixes? This sim seems fine if you just want to go off and dogfight - or maybe drop a few bombs on something. But when you want to fine tune your mission and try and add in some AI to the mix, its little things like this that just spoil it. Again- not slamming it. Just reporting it and asking a question. I’ve just bought the f16 and now I got to say, I am a little reluctant to spend any more for the time being. -
Which direciton? VR or TrackIR+HOTAS for A10C?
cptmrcalm replied to wagdog's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
oh yeah. if you have nothing - you get the hotas. But you see.... he still has his x52. -
Which direciton? VR or TrackIR+HOTAS for A10C?
cptmrcalm replied to wagdog's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
Theres no doubt a good HOTAS is essential. Pedals too. Cougar screens etc etc.. they are all fantastic. Expensive but fantastic. VR is expensive. Probably too expensive for most. It puts extra strain on your system. You have to put a big bulky headset on. You can get face ache if you wear it for 4 hours or so. If you have the vive or index you have to put base stations up. Extra wires. Oh the hassle. ... But MY GOD! Once you are in VR its game over for 2d screens. It really is on another level. The resolution is a drop and yes the clarity is not quite as sharp as a monitor - but honeslty? we really are talking in technical terms here. The reality is that its certainly good enough! I never fly thinking: "Pity i cant see what vehicle that is on that road at 20,000ft." Using an index and I couldnt go back to 2d screens for flight sims. -
Dammit. I was briefly on last night to finally get my VR zoom working! Must have missed the F16 module. (didn’t look for it - didn’t notice it) Bought it last week/week before. I am a loooooooong time BMS flyer of the F16. Was always happy with it over there. Was confident that the team had produced the FM as accurately as they could. (the real pilots inputs and the data being shown on the forums) Will be great to see how the F16 "feels" with this sim and how it compares. If it "feels" the same as it did with BMS then I am one happy chappy. (came to DCS for the VR. But the lack of a Dynamic Campaign will keep me in both sims) I am by no means an expert. Nor have any qualification in advanced physics. But if it "feels" right - then all good for me. A comment made early in this thread had me thinking about people’s opinions on how it “feels”. Wonder if its just getting used to the F16 Characteristics? F16 sustained high speed turns and the ability to pick up speed once you lose it. The f18s slow speed agility but inability to get the speed back up. One of the things I have learned from the "fighter pilot podcast" (great guys Vincent and sunshine) is that the pilots who fly the F16, Hornet, F14, Typhoon etc - all talk about avoiding flying in the enemy's strengths and keeping to your own. That said – we need people like hummingbird to keep pushing the case to help get it right if that’s what it takes. Even if it results in confirming the f16 is already correct. After all -we all want the most accurate FM don’t we!

You know what... ...yeah. Thank you. I was pulling my hair out trying to work out how to get it to work. Found out where and how - and wow. Yeah. What we wanted/needed. Thank you. Gives me hope that they listen and makes me confident about the future regarding some of the other issues we have. Will be spreading the word about the support.

AI not flying at speed set in the editor

Roger that. Will look at that. Thanks for the help. How hot is in Arizona then? (that place fascinates me!) :smilewink: -
AI not flying at speed set in the editor
cptmrcalm replied to cptmrcalm's topic in Aircraft AI Bugs (Non-Combined Arms)
Oh undoubtedly. I suspected I might get this reply. Thank you for clarifying. But I am not sure its clear in the editor you see. You have IAS, CAS also known as RAS ( Rectified Air Speed), EAS and TAS. For many beginners such as myself, setting an airspeed in the editor is what you expect to see in the air when you get into the sim. I had a feeling it would be something like this. Being new and not being able to see in my minds eye - i cant recall if the editor shows this clearly or not. I dont think it does. It'd be nice if it you could toggle so you can see how this translates to the other modes. Guess i'll have to get the calculator out and work out what airspeed I want at the height i set for every flight I make. -
Hi guys. Having another issue with the AI. Didnt want to post a new thread at first -so I googled the problem I was having and found this: https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?p=4053616#post4053616 posted a message and then saw it was under the legacy section. i know...i know. Slow down. Look first. I will do another check tonight if i can - but last night all i wanted to do was have some F15e's come in and refuel with a tanker. 270kts i thought reasonable at 20,000ft. 194kts and a crazy AOA. They ignored my speed inputs. Now I'm not sure if its clear in the editor the difference in height in relation to speed. just wondered if this bug was back from the above link i have included or something ive done wrong in the editor.? Since I am new to all this, I suspect its me. (set height - set speed) ps. couldnt for the life of me get the f15e's to refuel with the tanker - but thats another issue I need to look into.

AI weird flying behaviour
cptmrcalm replied to cptmrcalm's topic in Aircraft AI Bugs (Non-Combined Arms)
Hi there. It was literally just plonking in a 4 ship of aircraft - randomly selected. It just so happened to be a group of Harriers I selected from the list. Just clicked 5 waypoints or so - randomly around and then the last one landing at the airfield. Then throwing myself in as a F/A18. Wasnt wanting anything spectacular. Was literally just to have a look in the Nevada desert. But saw it happen with some A10s and then some f16s too in another mission. SU25's as well when they took off and turned to their first waypoint. So its not unique to a mission or a plane. AI planes dont fly naturually. Its like they fly on rails and the code forces them to suddenly slow (unrealistically) and then shoot forward to correct the time loss. I can see whats happening and I hope it gets corrected soon as its quite immersion breaking not to mention dangerous if you wanted to close formation fly! I get the advanced waypoint options and its nice that they are there for you to fine tune what you want happenining. But this is just basic flying I am refering too. Trying to sell this game to others and a couple of people I have shown the sim too have winced at the AI planes flying in front of us. They are xplane and MS Flight sim lovers and I was trying to show off the VR to them. Needless to say it didnt help when they saw the planes suddenly snap-turn -darting to the right when they were following them. I use words like: "shame" and "pity" not because I think its a bad sim. But at times, when you are really immersed - part of you believes you are in another world as you get more and more involved in the flight. When you see the AI behave like this you are reminded that it is a Sim and the immersion is broken and the world feels artificial in an instant. Hence the "pity" and "Shame". -
AI weird flying behaviour
cptmrcalm replied to cptmrcalm's topic in Aircraft AI Bugs (Non-Combined Arms)
hmmm.. thats quite bad really. I cant imagine wanting to do any low level flights in close formation then. Pity. Shame because there a lot of potential with DCS it seems. -
Steam DCS 2.5 user here. Not long been into DCS. Few months. My first post. Came over from other flight sims because of VR. Loving the look of it so far. (theres a lot I wish it had but that’s for another time.) However, noticed some very strange AI flying behaviours. Must be a bug. Just having fun with the mission editor. Adding flights and generally messing about. Threw myself in to go fly with these AI along their flight paths. (bit of formation flying and sightseeing) They tend to jump about a lot. One second doing 240Kts and then suddenly shooting backwards and the being sling shot 100 Meters or so forward when they turn. Its almost like bad lag on old games in multiplayer. This is just me in single player with a PC far over and above the recommended specs. Also, a group of a10 was set up to fly at 300 feet around a course taking them over mountains and over woodland areas. When I caught up with them in my F/A 18 there was only 2 out of 4. Now I appreciate there is a skill level associated with AI, but crashing into the ground at default setting (or even at any skill level) is a bit ... well... bad really. ( I guess that’s what happened to them. Should have saved the track to watch I guess. But I am new to this!) Dogfighting is a lot of fun and I have no issues there. (even on the odd occasion I’ve seen the AI hit the ground which in a dogfight is believable) The behaviour of the AI doesn’t seem to be connected to one type of aircraft. I’ve seen it on 3 types so far. It seems to be when they turn. They sort of snap turn and drag themselves in and out of alignment before they settle down to where they should be. Just wondered if there was a fix imminent?
