  1. Noticed a little change to the way the airbrake responds to the warthog hotas throttle airbrake switch. It is a minor bug and might give a small clue to any developer reading this. (and may help with other bugs as this is the way these things go sometimes) Its not a major bug - but cost me dearly during a fight. I could not close the air brake. I would flick the airbrake "ON" going from "OFF" (from its rested forward position) straight to "ON" - clicking fully back going straight through a "CENTRE" position. This "CENTRE" position is a 'nothing' area. -tested with windows only forward and fully back register as a "button" confirming that the click in the middle does nothing. Before, I could fully click in one motion to "ON" and "OFF" without problems - getting the desired effect. But now, you have to pause. Meaning once you have clicked to "ON" you have to click into the "CENTRE" position first. Wait one second and then click to "OFF" for the airbrake to close. (referring to update relevant when i last used on 21/08/2020.) Again - not a deal breaker now that I know - but definitely a change and not a needed one in my opinion. Hope it helps. OH and ED - for the love of god. Please - Please - Please - Please sort out the dam low level flying issue with the F18!!! PLEASE!!! i hate this being sucked into the ground nonsense!! (forgive the rant. but maaaaaan that stuff has gotten me killed more times than i can mention!!)
  2. I just opened the door a tiny bit to peek into this world of Vaicom and slammed it shut real quick. Let me just take a breather before I open it with confidence and look like i know why i have entered. LOL.. interesting. Thanks for the info. Still - shame the devs cant just tweak controller page!
  3. Hmm works for the F18 like a charm. Think I am going to have to accept defeat on this one because I wouldnt want to use VA and muck up the f18 to get the f16 to work. Blast. You win ED.
  4. Lol. Its like DCS is trying to make this hard! As you say -its designed for joystick button presses - but i hoped i still could assign a keyboard key press to it. But alas - they have needlessly blocked it. But here's a fun fact. Laser arm. (talking about the f16 still) Laser arm - just like taxi/off is a toggle switch. Guess what - THAT works. Same single button (flip switch) that i am using to assign a button to it. Flick once (quick pulse of button 11 I think) and it goes on - same button (quick pulse of button 11) and its off. Perfect. Dam lights!!! lol. sigh. Why ED? ... just.. why? I'll see if Voice attack can give the button a permanently "on state" when i flick the switch or something.
  5. Oh ok. That's a shame. What you said makes perfect sense. I see now. I had a feeling as such as well, but hoped that someone would say that its a known issue. Its not a deal breaker. Just would have been nice to assign it to one of my own flip switches like i can in other flight sims. Blast. Thanks for your reply. edit: soon as i sent this - i suddenly had a flashing thought. I wonder if I could use Voice Attack to get around the issue.... ...i wonder.....
  6. Just a quick one - this thread helped a lot. And for those reading this and getting the answer - you may well find yourself to the same point as me right now- i checked with LAT and LONG and thought "ah.. the last digit on the LAT is off - ill just set that to the correct value......oh... i cant..." 26.53.09 (i think for kesab on persian gulf) ... for some reason - 26 changed itself to 65 or some weird **** like that... and 09 kept changing to 9 so i ended up with 65.53.9 or something daft like that. it will be me. i know it. but im scratching my head at the moment. edit: as a guess.. would i have to put "026 - 53 - 09" ?
  7. hi guys. I have a button i want to use to turn the taxi lights on and off. You have 7 input fields for taxi lights. up down off landing landing/off taxi taxi/off I figured i would use taxi/off which looked great cus i thought that looked like a toggle switch. (same for landing/off which returns the same behaviour) Perfect seeing as i am using a single switch. Unfortunately, i think it is bugged. If i flick my switch (seen as button jOY-BTN8 ) when the lights are on then the taxi light switch in cockpit dances up and down - turning the lights off but wont allow me to put them back on by flicking the switch again. If they are already off - then my switch will turn them on but not off. In other words the input is not mapped right and only allows the button to activate once. Any ideas?
  8. I got to be honest - Not being a real fighter pilot I couldn't comment on "real world" radio comms and frequencies. I have read a few books though and they do mention a number of frequencies for different groups they make contact with during a mission. Awacs, tankers, CAS guys and CAP guys as well FAC. All of them on separate frequencies. All in the briefing. I guess that's why they have the kneeboard for info like this. I'll be honest - I've only been on a small number of servers. PVP inferno ones mostly. im sure they have a lobby frequency anyway? sure your able to chat while waiting and grouping up. But in any event, I still cant understand why you wouldn't use teamspeak for your group chat and planning - and then when in the sim use SRS that Automatically sets itself up when you join a server. So its not difficult to "sell" the idea to your team as theres not much to it. The only thing you have to do is set your radios up - just like in real life when you hop into the pit. Part of the ramp start process i enjoy. (yes yes i am boring i know!!) i tend you use open freq like 264 on radio 1 for human awacs and others and then AI awacs on radio 2. Thats it. Then, when i need to - change radio 2 to be whatever tower i need to talk to. Thats it. Now if i was like you, in a group, I'd say to the lads - right, lets hop onto freq 275 (random) ON Radio 2 and keep radio 1 on 264 for the other human pilots. If you absolutely need to keep teamspeak, have that running on a saparate ptt. Teamspeak can still be running in the background and you could still use it if you wanted to. That way its there for when you are in the lobby too. Ultimately in the end - i dont mean to preach to you. Nor try to sell you the idea of SRS. But it would be great if you could join in with us using SRS to avoid missing all the tactical opportunities SRS brings as well as avoiding any mishaps. But ultimately theres only so much i can say to try and illustrate the problems associated with those joining into a fray and unable to communicate with some - if not all the pilots flying. Anyway - happy flying and hopefully you'll consider if not -i hope the SRS evolves to your liking.
  9. I couldn't disagree more. (@pmiceli) Not sure about multiple frequencies splitting people off in a unrealistic fashion. I don't think I follow. SRS IS realistic and I seem to be getting on just fine. But then again I suppose it all boils down to what you want out of the SIM doesn't it. Clearly I and others seek a greater level of immersion and realism. Which I guess is neither right nor wrong. I mean if you want just a laugh? A muck around? Then what the heck. Who cares? Besides, who am I to tell you what to use and what not right? You're having fun right? My only issue is its not helpful for those who do use SRS for the many reasons it was deigned for. There's nothing stopping you and your team using both SRS and discord. Yes. SRS cuts you off if you lose your electrical power and if your blasted out of the sky because, well, that would be realistic. (Same goes for tactical radios for arma -for those interested. Same principle.) Again, this level or realism is not for everyone. But for those like myself who enjoy the enhancement to the sim that SRS brings, it sure would be nice to know we are all on the same team.
  10. New comers to the SIM might be able to take something worth while from this and i'd like to think this might help. This is mostly aimed at PVP servers such as those running “Through The Inferno”. As I get more and more familiar with DCS and more competent with the systems I realised that half of my problem was Situational Awareness. Not so much where I was on the map, but where the bad guys were and where the good guys were and most important of all – where I needed to be. I found that communication played a HUGE part with this situational awareness and that helped my survivability. The incidents that I have witnessed (blue on blue) have been because of no communication between the two, not to mention other problems with communication when trying to be effective as possible. (might sound a bit rich coming from me because this is something I have been guilty of in the past! Woopsie! But we all gotta learn right!) SRS is fantastic. Simple and easy to use. Its also quite immersive to use the radios properly in game. I love the radio effect applied to the voices as well. Turning volume knobs in game and having it raise or lower the pilot voices. Radio channels for in flight chatter. Excellent. Right? Right? To my horror, I see people flying and they are communicating on discord! - not SRS!. The problems this causes is often huge. I get that some people have social issues and prefer not to communicate. I get that people have their own circle of friends and want to just have a bash and not to take things too seriously. I get it. It is, after all, a bit of fun. All I would say is, if you want to use discord -fine. But please at least listen in on SRS so you can hear what other pilots are doing and what the Human awacs is advising. At least this way, they aren't oblivious to the bigger picture and at least everyone will get a better sense of what is going on. Just a thought of the day is all.
  11. ..Indeed. You like my: "blew the dust off the reply button" ? lol. Seriously though - would have thought by now. Guess there is little demand for it. When i fly on a multiplayer server that decides to block exported features, i have to replay the whole thing again to turn it into a ACMI file. Madness... but still...
  12. Found an old thread... eyes widened to find that this thread is 10 years old! blew the dust off the reply button and sent this. I cant believe that this has still not be addressed! I was stunned to find that tacview advanced STILL cant read the track files of DCS and that DCS still hasn't offered an export to ACMI. Madness. Still, my search continues.
  13. Yes I dont think this will be anything to do with what headset you are using. I fear this may not be resolved for some time as there are a number of lighting issues for a large number of areas. It may be an overhaul and since we are the minority at the moment, I cant see them rushing. Glad to be wrong though. I hope I am.
  14. Voice Attack. I use it to re-centre and for most radio commands. Such as request start up, taxi, take off, inbound, etc etc. Go for it Bilbosmeggins. You'll wonder why you left it so long. :)
  15. This is useful to know. I always wondered if it was going to be worth it and i'm glad I didn't get it. The refund issue will be good to learn too. I like the steam system. 2 hours (which sometimes isn't quite enough to find out for sure) or 2 weeks I think it is. Wonder how the module works with that system. Surely ED has something similar though?
  16. Ive seen this happen but not just at night. But oddly - very rarely. only once was it out of control and that was in the day strangely enough. There was something on the runway. Like a piece of metal - a small silver strip. it shone brightly at first then went full on gangsta laser show. Its not happened for a while which is weird. There are a hand full of lighting issues being brought up of late. Something I am discovering myself too. Night time clouds in thunderstorms being bright white - not seeing the sea etc etc… Hopefully ED will offer us an update soon. for now - its looking like day time flying only.
  17. +1 on distant cloud flickering. Its getting more and more off putting. I had hoped a gfx tweak might do it. But I don't think this has been resolved of late?
  18. ive noticed a number of issues with lighting and as I am flying more and more, I notice it more and more. I did a few test and indeed can see these problems. F15e's for example. My god. Their lights glow so brightly at all ranges except close. You cant even see the jet clearly at medium ranges as they are just a big ball of red glow. Other lighting issues include night time storms as well. 2am over the sea - the thick heavy clouds are bright white - and the sea is jet black. You have absolutely no reference point to the sea and nothing seems to reflect off it. Night vision is pointless. With that much brightness coming off the clouds - you would see some features of the water. My point being there are serious lighting issues - particularly at night. The problem is, there doesn't seem to be any positive feedback from the developers. So I don't know if they even know if its a problem or not. Not to mean any disrespect - I guess they are working on issues they feel are more important. AI being a major one I guess. Not sure if any nvidia settings (or AMD) will help? I was hoping to find a fix for distant flickering clouds too. So perhaps a bit of tweaking on the gfx might fix it?
  19. Yup. Its me. For those experiencing the same thing, its a limitation on the ATC system. Oddly you have to shut down and then fire the bird back up again to talk to the ATC for start up, then taxi and then take off. Bit odd that you are unable to communicate with the tower until you do this after landing - but hey, if that's the way it is.... Maybe they will "fix" this with time. Hope this helps someone. ps. just read my first post and failed to mention that it was after landing. Sorry about that.
  20. Hi there. Are all radio communications to ATC implemented for all the airbases? I was trying to communicate with Al Bateen airbase and the only option I got was f11 parent menu or f12 exit. So I took off and landed at the nearest airbase, Al Dhafra. (forgive spelling. I am not looking at a chart right now. just from memory) and again, only those two options. I double checked the frequencies and all seemed ok. I am not using easy communications. It was at a time I was learning the advanced radios and discovering the comms 1 and 2 Push to talk button I didn't know I needed. You can imagine that I had everything set right - but it turns out these two airbases wouldnt talk to me. I hope its something I am doing wrong? (which is more than likely)
  21. Thats true and a fair point. Not sure on fantasy kills immersion - after all, its all a fantasy - but i think i get what your saying. Maybe just an nice way of seeing the aircraft being recovered then. I suppose the point still stands - so long as its a significant advancement to what we have. regards
  22. Guys. Simulations are all about immersion. I’m an old fart and I like to be immersed. VR so far has been the best thing for DCS – the main reason for trying it out. Are elevators as important as a true dynamic campaign – controlling assets and flights in real time? No. Are elevators as important as getting the AI planes moving around realistically instead of flying on invisible rails? No. Getting the flight systems fully implemented? No. Are elevators as important as getting a fully animated ground crew? No. But for me, I’d want something significant to what we have already. If I can park up on an elevator and use the radio to be lowered down into the hanger bay – even if just to roll forward off the ramp to bring up the escape menu – then I’m in. (I don’t ever think I’ve seen that before in any flight sim?) Because that would be immersive. A celebratory end to a mission. To help put into perspective the flight I just had. To add to the immersion that the ship is alive with a hive of activity. Wow. I’d be in. I don’t understand why people seem to think the elevators are being portrayed as important as flying features. Referring to things as sim city etc… But heck. If they don’t implement them, then opportunity missed and ill probably pass. Depending on its other features. But if you don’t care for them – hey, its your opinion and that’s fine. As someone further back in the thread put: “f I’m paying that much money i want elevators and hangar honestly down the road, if not at release Its meant to be supercarrier not lazy implementation carrier.” Peace. out.
  23. I'd want something significantly more advanced that what comes with the game. Seems pretty good though. If elevators allow you to roll into the hanger under deck - then that is the kind of significant advance I am talking about. In which case - i'd buy it. Its the first thing I and others asked about. Not the highest priority for everyone which is fine. But for me and a few others, it would certainly create a lot of interest. That with the AI crew of course.
  24. Hi there. Im sorry if this has been mentioned already. Just remembered to ask this - so quickly posted. (Before I get on with this so called: "life" that gets in the way of personal PC flying time....) Can we "whitelist" devices ourselves? and if so how? Which file should I open to edit? I cant seem to include any devices to the radios in settings you see. Even with clicking on the additonal devices button. The auther very kindly offers his help to "whitelist" devices for us. But to save him time I wonder if we can do it ourselves? (or have i completely missed the point and its something he has to do to .exe?) I have a "gazzilion" devices plugged in you see. (Pedals, warthog, track ir, cougar MFDs, Index, my own personal 20 button input device with some modifications, steering wheel, pedals for those etc etc..)
  25. Just a quick edit above to make sure it makes sense.
