  7. Oh definitely. It's not just the graphics. If one only cares about graphics and little else, there's a certain product coming out sometime soon which caters to that crowd. Keep in mind that those guys boast about their flight model no longer treating the aircraft as a single point in space, like FSX did... That said, there's no reason why we can't get rid of the billboard clouds ;)

  9. Well airfields were the primary means of resupply so that made sense in the context of the game, but yeah, the campaign engine in EECH certainly wasn't the deepest. I was actually writing some code for the community patches (worked on the masterserver, fixed the wrong redfor ADIs, and the persistent smoke effects were my idea as well after having watched videos of various tank battle aftermaths) Buuuuut, as others have said, drop-in-drop-out multiplayer campaigning would be amazing to have in DCS. I for one was actually very disappointed in Falcon 4 when that came out, and I found that all the game is doing is to generate a mission from the menu, then load into the game, and then it was back to the menu. Also, I don't think this feature needs to be 100% perfect from the get-go. Additional mechanics and mission types can be added on later if needed.
  10. I hope this will work similar to the dynamic campaign in EECH, which was superior to Falcon 4 in that everything happened in real time and there was absolutely no loading hopping between units. Also, the missions being created followed a logical order: Recon, SEAD, Attack, Recon, Insertion. Here's hoping that DCS will get there as well.
  11. Hi, I've been running a dedicated server for quite some time now, using the beta server executable. Worked fine. Now a friend asked for a second instance with a different mission and I thought I'd oblige. I was using the -w switch to create a second instance, which did create the corresponding directory in the save game folder. However when launching the server I ran into troubles: 1) I don't launch DCS.exe since that never worked for me, I usually run DCS-updater.exe and let it spawn DCS after updating. This would be perfect but unfortunately I have no way to skip all the unneeded "Do you really want to update" dialogs, but that's another issue. DCS-updater.exe does not know what to do with the -w parameter. 2) Launching DCS.exe with -w creates the directory, but the server does not start. I tried using -server and -norender but the log then talks about not being able to load the render backend dx11backend.dll... Does anyone have any ideas of what else I could try?
  12. Hey @Baitball did you ever find out the cause for this behavior? I'm getting this every now and then, and it's a non-recoverable situation for me when it hits. I have to get out of the plane and into a fresh one to fix it. Like you, I'm able to slew and lock onto a target, but the pipper on the HUD remains on boresight. Switching SOI etc. doesn't change this one bit. Getting into a new plane and everything is back to normal for, like the next 5 missions or so. Frankly I think this is simply a bug, since it's not something I can reproduce reliably, nor is it in any way recoverable. Once I see that bomb fall line stuck to one side and the pipper in the middle, I know I have to restart.
  13. I love the Viper, warts and all. My biggest problem is that some things are kinda working and I essentially de-train certain aspects... But I am not a real fighter pilot so it is a nuisance at worst. I bought EA and I got EA. This is the most fun to fly in VR IMO and I'd hate having to wait 2 years.

  15. Hi, The DCS updater shows a prompt asking you whether you want to upgrade to the latest version whenever there is one, and it also shows a prompt after it finished updating. It does that for itself and for the game. Is there a command line switch to skip those prompts? If not, would it be possible to add one? This would greatly help with running beta servers...
  16. Ok so some good news and some bad news. The bad news is that apparently there's a bug in DCS that causes the player destruction hook to not work properly. There's some mention of that in MOOSE and I haven't been able to get this to work. The good news is that I added four playable F16C (f16cm) to our server. They work great except for I'm a noob with that mission editor so the radio doesn't seem to work properly. And of course I'm also a noob with the F16 as my Falcon 4 days are many years past :) But it's a lot of fun. The F16 is a joy to fly in this campaign.
  17. I had to run "DCS_Updater.exe update" before the game would update at all. Just starting the updater would not update anything.
  18. Oh I know, I can modify the mission to get that. But it's good to know this is on your roadmap!
  19. Nice! Server updated. Hmmm am I blind or are player deaths not part of the scoring yet? I'm looking to get certain events like how many planes you trash to have an influence on the player score. Or did I just miss this?

  21. Hi, great work on that mission! Now that I can finally post on the forums (had some trouble activating the account) could I ask you for a favor? Could you please add an array in your script with the capture zone names? That way, stuff like my map script can go through and collect the data about the capture zones without the need to hardcode them. Thanks!
