  1. When setting up the controller(s) you can select a certain aircraft and there is the general section. What is this section good for ? I would assume that all settings there will kick in when nothing is set in a certain aircraft, but thats not the case. I set stick and rudder pedals axises in the general section and deleted all axis settings for the P-51. Result: no aileron, no elevator, no rudder. So is there another way to achive my goal: setting e. g. stick and rudder global for all aircraft assigned to the same axises ?
  2. There are at least two bugs in the P-51 D Sim controller setup: - Changing anything in P-51 D Sim changes the profiles in Saved Games\DCS\Config\Input\TF-51D\joystick (see first attached image). - Aileron and elevator trim are labeled identical (at least in the german localization) as Trimmung and this makes it impossible to assign an axis to these (see second attached image). - Rudder trim is fine
  3. Congratulations to the new server... ...I had a real nice flight there yesterday, ping around 100-120ms. ...and I did not break any of your virtual plane stock, like last week :music_whistling: I would really like to join your forum, but this seems to be difficult for me :helpsmilie: The registration seems to have objections concerning my nick and/or email address, or something else. Even tried to use "Contact us" but to no avail (maybe your spam filter, maybe mine, I don't know) Any advice on how to procceed ?
  4. I seriously want that AI down:D Basically I'm a FSX guy and on THAT turf my current challange is the PMDG BAe Jetstream 41:book: For acrobatics, totally yes, while I was testing the turn radius the flight path was much more defined when doing the turn with trim (because I mapped it to a slider) While in air combat I already suffer from hand-eye-coordinaton overload:music_whistling: so I prefer the stick for quick reaction...
  5. Some corner speed tests - Turnrates01_45_2700 = 45mHg, 2700 RPM speed above 200Mph, first turn trim only, ca. 11.5°/s turnrate, second turn with stick, perfomance about the same, as I expected, so using trim here in this sim is a question of comfort. - Turnrates02_45_2700 = 45mHg, 2700 RPM speed around 250Mph, ca. 12.5°/s turnrate - Turnrates03_45_2700 = 45mHg, 2700 RPM speed around 250Mph, ca. 12.5°/s turnrate - Turnrates04_60_3000 = 60mHg, 3000 RPM speed around 250-210Mph, ca. 14.5°/s turnrate - Turnrates05_250_60_3000 = 60mHg, 3000 RPM speed 250Mph, ca. 15°/s turnrate - Turnrates06_250_45_2700 = 45mHg, 2700 RPM speed 250Mph, ca. 9.5°/s turnrate - Turnrates07_250-200F_45_2700 = 45mHg, 2700 RPM speed 250 to 220Mph, ca 1/3 flaps, ca. 9°/s turnrate - Turnrates08_270-220_60_3000 = 60mHg, 3000 RPM speed 270-220Mph, ca. 10°/s turnrate, then pulling hard to peak of 20°/s, while decellerating Turnrates01-08ACMI.zip
  6. Welcome to the club:music_whistling: Concerning being "heavy handed": That's due to the nature of our sports, or more exactly, our devices, they are too easy to move. I had once the chance to try a real world Boeing 737 simulator and I found aileron and elevator forces (when outside a real small range) almost unmovable. That's the reason why aircrafts need trim, trim moves the movable range of the stick through the whole envelope. I _think_ this should'nd bother us, because we have no real force feedback and I _think_, trim should'nd make any difference concerning drag/speed loss, at least not with a real aircraft, but someone like YoYo may can tell you better. There was once a bug in Il-2 Sturmovik where using elevator trim instead of elevator produced no drag, but that was a bug.
  7. You're not alone... ...this said I may direct you to my thread on the same topic: Calls for ACMI,getting frustrated with quickstart mission http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=106637 With the help of Konrad Friedrich and gavagai I really improved my chance against THAT_DARN_AI. Here a short list of what helped me: - Get Tacview: http://lomac.strasoftware.com/tacview-en.php its basic version is free. Have a look at what the AI is doing, what you are doing, what others did. - Tune your controller setup to be less sensitive I totally got rid of nonlinear setup and lowered saturation instead, to about 20% for elevator trim, 50% for rudder, 60-70% elevator and aileron. This way you do not oversteer so much. This of course depends on your controller(s) - Fly coordinated ! If the ball is not centered you almost certainly stall one wing when you use aileron while in an elevator-driven turn. - Turn steadily, but do not go below 200Mph Use Tacview to record one of your tries, then post it here so others can have a look. If you have problems with using Tacview, or things I'm talking about, ask, I'll help.
  8. Hm, maybe I just switched it accidently off ? Could be... I'll test it. Embarassing, that was the problem Ok, done for today, lunch time...
  9. That TrackIR problem was weird, it works perfect in singleplayer and the client was fine all the time ?!? It's a great help, so I look get it going.
  10. @Konrad Friedrich That tour on Virtual Aerobatics was real fun, embarrassing for shure, but fun. But just when I touched down w/o fuel, bam, disconnected. Then the server was listed no more... Nevermind I'm quite exhausted... But I will definatly join there again, typically in the evening of course. Thanks for the lesson
  11. @Konrad Friedrich I'll have a look at Virtual Aerobatics, have to try how it works. If possible my nick/callsign will stay the same, or something containing TheDoctor. If I see your callsign 'Duc', I'll contact you in chat.
  12. Understood, and yes, the slider axis... ...but tried something similar in the mean time: I tuned down the pitch axis to 60% saturation, this has about the same effect. Overcomes the disadvantage of the Warthog stick, the strong spring(I don't want to mod it). Attached my first kill of the AI. In fact if the initial move of the AI does not play out (climbing and curving in) it's pretty screwed. I maintained altitude and max corner speed and it had to follow, then tried the high yoyo trick again... ...then I got behind and because the evasive manouvers are not so smart I stayed behind, used ammo only in small burst and finally got it. For me this discussion is of great help in finding my errors and I'm getting better in the last two days than I got in the last 2 month. Concerning power settings. I did all of this with max. inHg/max. RPM, what of course is unreal, in the end it will blow the engine. If only tacview would monitor these settings for the AI, would be interesting. 13. @Konrad Friedrich & gavagai @Konrad Friedrich: Ansonsten: bleib bei englisch... sonst versteht uns keiner Of course, intended to do so, just a short com speedup for me yesterday. Controller setup: Stick/Throttle: TH Warthog Rudder: Saitek Elevator trim is mapped to throttle trim axis, but without force feedback there is no clue (for me) how use it while curving (while starting, flying course and landing this is no problem, the feedback is visual) @gavagai Your right, the stalls are the first problem to tackle. I'm trying to understand why it happens. Normal stall (low speed/and/or/high AOA) is easy to detect (plane shake) and I know whats going on, but these one wing stalls happen without warning. My current theory is that they are a result of adverse rudder to aileron deflection (unintentional slipping). It's difficult to tell because having looking at the ball and the enemy at the same time is...difficult. I'll do some tests without AI on this.
  14. Flight training... ...why not...
  15. And a last one for today I made my own mission, setting the planes a little more apart and made them faster, all else default. Tried until I got my first manouver right without a wing stall. After that I sticked to him like chewing gum to a boot, hit him several times, but without AI Lasersight only damaged him some times before my ammo was gone... Still the default quickstart remains as challange. Mission, TRK and ACMI attached... ThisOneWasBetterButOwnMission.zip
  16. ...and then I stall... ...thats the name of the game. Basically I tried 4 times to climb and curve all not to much... ...allways the same result: - the AI turns harder than me, in level flight, then climbs to my altitude AND gets closer - the the AI is about 0.5 mi away, switches Lasersight on and starts wasting me. - then one of wings stalls. my only choce to regain control is to sink in straight flight and thats it. The AI s a nice programming example for perfect automated flight control, but useless for training  The AI needs improvement in beeing NOT perfect. ACMI-andThenIStall.zip
  17. I found it and got some more ACMI for my collection Before going online I would prefer to increase my skills so that I'm not a complete waste of time:D Basically WildBillKelsoe tried the same as me, build up a ACMI collection. Maybe you want to contribute as well :smilewink: If you have trouble with tacview, I gladly help...
  18. @gavagai Thanks ! Thats's what I was talking about. The immense advantage of looking at an ACMI-File in tacview is, you can see speeds, angles, g-load, shots and hits... You can even open more than one instance of tacview and compare two flights. I took a first look at your third track and i found my first mistake on the climbing curve strategy: although my speed is no less than yours at minimum, my bank angle is much steeper than yours, what most certainly is the reason why I stall so often, even when the speed seens ok.
  19. I have to say I'm getting more and more frustrated with the P-51 vs P-51 quickstart mission. I get killed effortlessly within one single minute, no matter what I do. I look at every of these encounters with tacview and I can't say what's wrong. So I want to learn fromn someone who does better...:helpsmilie: Ok I know, there is a whole thread full of videos but those are impressive but of no help :( I haven't yet found an ACMI file posted where I can study better tactics. So would kindly ask everyone who is able to shoot that darn bird down to post his tacview files in this thread, so me and others can learn. I'll start with my futile efforts... ACMI.zip
  20. In fact you're right In the past I already paid more for less :music_whistling: so why not supporting Vyrtuoz excellent work... Added: Finally bought it...
  21. You can install it by hand... ...and it works mostly fine. I get no display of air defence ranges (those red domes) but the airplane tracks are ok. It's my favorite tool to look why I suck again and again in air combat :music_whistling: I can post my LUA file when I'm back home.
  22. You really made my day... Having both, the DCS P-51 and, fresh from the shelf, the A2A P-51 for FSX I'm in the process of setting up my controllers for both of then as identical as it gets... DCS P-51 was first so I did this profile first... ...but then in FSX (with a registered copy of FSUIPC) I found a way set up toggle switches, exactly like you... ...and was grumbling "...if I only could do the same in DCS " And there comes deus ex machina, ...ehhrrr Spy Guy and has already solved the problem... :flowers: Thanks !!!
  23. A2A P-51 is out http://a2asimulations.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=93 :music_whistling: And because I already trained with the DCS beta I WILL NOT WASTE it on my first takeof trials... ...ass I did with the DCS one
  24. Yes I second that I really got used to this in FSX, its much more intuitive...
