New Thrustmaster Gear - Live Tweeting
sleepycanuck replied to Dojo's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
That is an astute call Streakeagle ... I am a CH Products owner (FS/PT/PP/TQ/MFP) and I see the same scenario: the items are there, sometimes, sometimes not and in low quantities ... and the prices are definitely going up!!! The configuration software that Bob Church wrote for the controllers is top notch, easy to use and very scalable in complexity and programming options. This is what keeps me with CH Products for the time being, that and their durability, but as time goes by I know I will be looking for new controllers some time in the future. The current situation does not inspire.:( The crosswind pedals are good news but what about sticks and throttles of the same quality/programmability? -
This post is directed to both ED and 3rd party developers. My issue is the assigning of default key commands for similar functions between different DCS level modules. For example: when one compares the key commands for flaps control for the P-51, BF 109 and FW 190 there are three different key command combinations for the same functions (see chart below): Function: Up/Retracted; Takeoff; Down/Landing FW190: LShift + F; LCtrl + F; F P-51D: LShift + F; (none) ; F BF109: LCtrl + F; (none) ; LShift + F The difficulty this presents is for someone who is trying to develop one generic mapping profile for their flight controllers that will work for all three modules. (For those who create a mapping for each different module this does not apply.) I have found work-arounds for the above problem but my hope is that all parties making modules for DCS will try to assign the same key commands for the same functions as much as possible.

One of the issues may be that both DCS World and TrackIR use the F12 and F9 keys for their own functions. One way that you can avoid this conflict is to create a custom profile using the TrackIR GUI and change the default key commands for center and pause to something like "Shift + F12" and "Shift + F9". That is what I did and so far has worked quite well. Hope this helps.

"SPECIAL" Options for Mi-8 ...
sleepycanuck replied to sleepycanuck's topic in DCS: Mi-8MTV2 Magnificent Eight
Thanks for the info fella's! -
Hello, Can someone explain the "Autopilot Adjustment" and the "Control Helper" options that are in the SPECIAL options menu for the Mi-8. Thanks in Advance.
-
Yup, got similar issue with clickable cockpits as well. I switched my mouse from a RAT9 to a Microsoft Sidewinder but issue stayed. Thought it might be a problem with my CH Products HOTAS config but there is no sign of the problem in DCS World 1.2. I wish the ED devs good luck in hunting down this problem. :) 1.5 is really a fantastic piece of work!

First impressions of 1.5 Beta
sleepycanuck replied to Cowboy10uk's topic in DCS World 1.x (read only)
Let me add my approval to all the other voices! Improved graphics, unified GUI, 60 fps = Wow! Well done to all the hardworking folks at ED. -
Dogman, if I am reading this correctly then the issue is most likely what ShuRugal has pointed out. All the Flaming Cliffs 3.0 aircraft have the z axis of the TrackIR bound to the zoom function where as DCS grade aircraft have the z axis of the TrackIR bound to the lateral forward/backward view by default. For all the aircraft that exhibit the problem set the z axis (Options\Controls menu) to lateral forward/backward view. Hope this helps.

Yup! Sounds like a great idea.

Pharoah, Yup ... I have ArmA III ... been toying with the idea of getting the helo expansion/DLC ... Just wish I had more time for this stuff! ;-)

Vampyre, Thanks for the link/nudge in the right direction. :) Great list ... definitely looking forward to seeing some of these a/c come to life!

Future project: Boeing CH-47 Chinook Hey Belsimtek, Just in case this has not been mentioned before, I felt I had to put forth my two cents and desire to fly this famous and iconic heavy lifter. I realize that multi-crew aircraft are not yet available in the DCS world but is a future feature so please consider developing the Chinook for us rotor heads to fly when the time is right. I can imagine, in addition to learning how to fly this beautiful beast, missions that involve troop insertions, cargo drops and SAR ops! The future is bright and hopefully a CH-47 will be in it.

Good question Iberian ... been there, done that more times than I like to admit! ;-)

6 DOF cockpit for the SU-25T
sleepycanuck replied to Kaned Dragon's topic in DCS World 1.x (read only)
When it came to flying the frogfoot I stuck primarily to the "T" model but since the new 6 DoF "A" model came out I have been split pretty evenly between the two. I would dearly love to see the "T" updated to the 3D/6DoF standard. I have been messing around with the mods that are out there that give more freedom of the head movement and that helps. Fingers crossed that it will be soon. -
To the talented folks at ED, Thanks for continuing to make improvements on DCS World and its modules. As a simmer that bought the first Flanker (DOS version) years ago it is great to see this bird with 6 DoF cockpit, high res./high poly model and updated sound samples. Looking forward to the future with great anticipation!

My sincerest condolences to family, friends and co-workers.

Count me in aswell .. I love flying this fast ground pounder (both versions): a DCS fidelity model would be awsome.

DCS - BS2 (DCS World beta version) Bug
sleepycanuck replied to sleepycanuck's topic in General Questions
Excellent work ED! ... as always. The more I use the DCS-World Launcher/GUI the more I like it. This is definitely the way to go. Cheers -
Hello, Just reporting a small bug with BS2 (beta version for DCS World): when I use the key combination Right ALT + j to toggle on/off the blade tip lights it behaves like the Left ALT + j (jump in/out of current helo). Cheers

Always good to see how my favorite hobby is made and the talented people behind it. Good luck with all future endeavors!

All great news (like an early Christmas present) ... looking forward to the day when FC3, A-10 and BS2 all jammin' together over Nevada!!! These series of sims have been consuming the lion's share of my gaming time for the last few years ... looks like that will continue for the foreseeable future. :D

UUMickey, When in the Axis tune window check to see if the axis you are using is set as a "Slider" (tick box ticked). If not, try setting it that way and test it out. Also try checking in the software that comes with the Saitek stick ... see how it is treating the axis ... typically the collective uses the "Z" axis. Just a couple of suggestions ... good luck and good hunting.

Vehicle animations for reloading/refuelling/repairs
sleepycanuck replied to Mohamengina's topic in DCS Wishlist
I would like to see some kind of progress indicator for any of the ground maintenance operations: refuel, rearm and repair. Particularly for the repair ... I am never quite sure that this is happening at all. A count down timer or a progress bar, perhaps, would be very helpful. Or integrate some kind of indicator into the controls overlay. Just some thoughts.
