  1. I hope to use a Reverb G2, we'll see. Hell, I'd love to get a surplus flight helmet, mount the HMD, replace the speakers, etc. etc. etc. LOL
  2. Well....using VR, I'm kinda stuck with the speakers in the HMD, right?
  3. I would imagine since most people play DCS with headphones or some sort of VR headset that sound is not a huge deal. But what if I'm planning on; 1) a lot of single player/training time? 2) use the PC for streaming TV, etc.? 3) playing music while I do other stuff? Any recommendations? It's been awhile since I've looked at this stuff, a lot has changed. Last time I put a sound card in anything it was a Sound Blaster Audigy, and I had the usual desk speakers.
  4. Thanks all! Found one I think will work. Plenty of slots in case I add rudder pedals or something.
  5. Okay, so it's not a big fancy cockpit (and I am sooooo jealous of you with the time/money/skillset to have those LOL)...it's just a gaming chair with armrests. On the right I've got a VKB Gunfighter MkIII. On the left will be a Thrustmaster Warthog throttle with that Delta Sims slew upgrade. At some point in the future, a Reverb G2 headset. What I HOPE to do is have the VKB black box and some sort of USB hub on the chair, then one USB cable to run to the PC (I may be wrong about that last part, not sure how this all works yet). My question is, is there a preferred USB hub to use? And how far off am I on the cables?
  6. I'm pumped. Ordered mine yesterday. Now all I need is a graphics card, VR headset, and learn how to fly in DCS.
  7. So $69 and I use the "far" part of my prescription? Sounds like a no-brainer. I'll bookmark them for when I get my Reverb G4.
  8. Thanks! I fiddled with the springs this morning. I put 30As on the inside, then whatever weight came already installed on the outside. Much better already. I may play with the clutch next.
  9. One thing I completely overlooked, though it was a plain as the glasses on my face! Any other optically-challenged VR pilots out there? How does it work for you? Any tips/tricks or should I just find a big monitor and resign myself to using TrackIR?
  10. So I received my Gunfighter MkIII last week and I've been piddling around to see how I'll attach it to my Playseat Air Force chair. One thing I really wanna do is make the stick more firm? It is super easy to move around. This is my first high-end stick, so I watched the video from VKB on how to change them. Can anyone recommend a good place to start? I have spring packs saying 10A, 30A, and 40A so I'm assuming there are 20As on there right now.
  11. I just had a bit of good luck. Apparently B&H Photo is drawing names from the "Notify Me" list and letting them purchase cards as they arrive. I was skeptical at first, so I called B&H directly. Sure enough, it's legit. The downside is it's "only" an MSI RTX 3070 Gaming X TRIO, but at least now I have the option of finishing my build OR sell the card for a bit of profit. I'm also on the "Notify Me" for a 3090, so maybe lightning can strike twice!
  12. I've read some stuff here in the forums suggesting the Radeons don't play well with the Reverb G2. I was thinking I might get a RX 6900 XT and keep it all AMD.
  13. OOoooooo.....no kidding? So splurging for the 3090 might be good. What about the CPU? Anything to be gained from jumping up to something higher on it?
  14. Not sure what you mean? The graphics cards I'm looking at are all 3070 or better. The "3700/3800X" refers to my (and the OP's) CPU. I was planning to get an EVGA or Gigabyte RTX 3080, but was told (as I mentioned) that the RTX 3090 would be needed for good VR.
  15. Not to piggyback too much, but I posted my specs over in the PC Hardware forum. I was told there that 1) I went nuts on the RAM (okay, maybe a little) and 2) My GPU could be better. Like the OP, I went with a Ryzen 7, and I hope to use an HP Reverb G2. 1. Gigabyte X570 Aorus Elite mb 2. Ryzen 7 3700X CPU 3. 128GB G.Skill Trident Z Neo DDR4 RAM 3200MHz CL16 4. 2x Samsung 970 EVO Plus 1TB M.2 SSD 5. Samsung 870 QVO 2TD SATA SSD 6. EVGA Super Nova 850 G5 80 Plus Gold I am NOT real smart when it comes to computers. Cores and OCing and 95% of the other computer-related acronyms mean nothing to me. LOL So other than a good graphics card (I was recommended a 6900XT or RTX 3090 for VR), is the 3700/3800X up for this?
  16. Given how long I may be looking at to get a graphics card, I can probably upgrade the CPU by then. LOL I should point out, this is not a DCS-specific computer. My thought with the memory was one of the M.2s would be just for DCS, the other for booting (overkill, I know, but I'd rather have too much than too little) and the SATA to store pics. I haven't had a desktop PC in ages, so I'm not sure whether it'll replace my trusty laptop for surfing or mundane stuff. It'll definitely be used for DCS and ArmA3.
  17. LOL Your third paragraph.....I have no idea what that means. I'm not a computer guy, obviously. I can't return the CPU, though I could give it to my son for his build when he gets back (maybe). Why 128GB? The mistaken assumption that more is better. LOL
  18. LOL I have plenty to choose from. Well, okay, by MY standards, I have plenty. Honestly, I'm so new to DCS I am sure I don't yet appreciate how hard learning to effectively fly the high-fidelity modules. I figure I'll get started on the Flaming Cliffs aircraft, and probably focus on the Spitfire (as it is, IMHO, the most gorgeous airplane ever made LOL).
  19. I should point out the stuff I listed....it's sitting on my kitchen table, mostly assembled. Oh, and my CPU did come with some huge heatsink/fan combo on it.
  20. Okay, so after staring at my DCS icon on my laptop for a year, I finally broke down and started to assemble a new PC. Yes, it will do other things than DCS but I'm not gonna lie....the main goal is to fly in DCS with a Reverb G2. What I have so far; 1. Gigabyte X570 Aorus Elite mb 2. Ryzen 7 3700X CPU 3. 128GB G.Skill Trident Z Neo DDR4 RAM 3200MHz CL16 4. 2x Samsung 970 EVO Plus 1TB M.2 SSD 5. Samsung 870 QVO 2TD SATA SSD 6. EVGA Super Nova 850 G5 80 Plus Gold Put it in a Fractal Design Meshify 2 case, EK 240mm AiO, with another 3 EK fans hither and yon. LOL Obviously, I'm missing a GPU. I THINK I have done okay so far. I'm not really into computers that much, though I do like putting things together, etc. Obviously the GPU thing is holding me back, but I believe all those parts should play pretty well together. Am I missing anything? Now the touchy subject....GPU. I was planning on an RTX 3080, but right now they're scarcer than hen's teeth. I was also reading that while the Radeon 6800XT generally comes up 2nd behind the 3080, it does okay and does better when paired with an AMD CPU? Any recommendation between those two, based on what I've done so far? And what about third choices? Thanks for the input.
  21. You all are a bunch of enablers, that's what you are!!! Thank God the RTX 3080 is sold out everywhere. LOL
  22. Man, I did totally miss actually putting a question in there, didn't I? The question was "Will I need to futz about with a ton of other stuff in order to use VR?". And yes, I realize I have to study quite a bit to fly effectively, but that falls under "play". Messing with files does not. The laptop is my current computer. I'm thinking of building a desktop. As for this future computer's specs, that's still ongoing. I have narrowed it a bit....RTX 3080 GPU, at least 32gb RAM, probably more. AMD processor, most likely Ryzen 7 series. X570 motherboard. My budget is around $2,500 for the computer stuff. Oh, and the headset will be (again, most likely) an HP Reverb G2.
  23. As mentioned elsewhere, I've really not flown much in DCS. Main reason is that while my laptop is capable of running it, sitting on the couch trying to move your head around in the cockpit with a POV switch and keyboard commands just isn't "fun". I'm sure I'm not the only one who has drooled over some of the desktop setups some folks have, so I decided to explore building up one of my own. First shocker was seeing how much the price on the TM A-10 HOTAS increased. Second shocker was seeing how VR worked in DCS. And I have to say, I'm smitten. A quick bit of background on me before I ask the question. I have assembled a couple of PCs before. Nothing crazy, no overclocking or crazy LED-lit water cooling systems. I've also piddled around with computer files related to games. Mainly changing skins of aircraft in War Thunder. I am, by no means, a computer guy. So the question is this..... I had assumed (and we all know what that means) that a VR set-up would require me to 1) build a capable machine, 2) get the headset and install it, and 3) tweak settings in game to get the desired result. After browsing some of the threads in here (many of which seemed pretty damn technical when it comes to computers, GPUs, etc.) I get the feeling there is a LOT more involved with totally immersing myself in the sim. Like altering lines of code? Having multiple programs running (WMR? SteamVR? I only use Steam for ArmA 3!!!)? In short, I gather this is not just a "plug n' play" decision. Thanks for your patience!
  24. So basically it'd be like multiplayer....two separate machines, each with a copy of F-14. Gotcha. I suppose that would have eventually occurred to me. The internet makes me lazy. Thanks!
