  1. Help Please! I'm trying to setup OVGME again after having to reinstall Windows and all my apps- I am getting this error message ovgme error "config for D:\Eagle DYNAMICS\DCS World already exists" I created an OVGME file to install mods that didn't change the DCS Core- it created fine and looks like it did before I had to reinstall it. I then tried to create a second OVGME for mods that change the DCS core. I have my mods separated into two folders, one for non core mods and one for core mods (core mod is Bartheks caucaus redone). I created it by pointing it to the DCS root directory and the mods to the core mod folder. everything looks as if it should work, however when I try to create it I get this error message. ovgme error "config for D:\Eagle DYNAMICS\DCS World already exists" Any idea's of what I am doing wrong?
  2. Is there a way to increase the intensity of the vibrations through a NLR HL8 haptic seat cushion I am using the HL8 connected through USB and running SSA in conjunction with Andres sound module and seat bass shakers. I have the intensity maxed but it is still weak. Using the HL8 software the intensity is much better. If I increase the bass shaker intensity the HL8 is hard to appreciate. I tried connecting via the 3.5 mm jack but I get constant vibration with or without DCS running.
  3. Figured it out if someone runs into this issue in the future. Somehow an angled default snapview was set. Go to the saved games folder, under config\view\Snapviews.lua and delete the Snapviews.lua file and restart DCS. DCS will rebuild the Snapviews.lua file using the default view angles.
  4. I tried CH-47 after the 9/30/24 update. My default cockpit view is angled down centered on the multidisplay unit. To view out through the windscreen I have to arch my head back viewing up. I am using trackIR. I tried other modules and the default cockpit view was normal, no angle, viewing straight forward through the windscreen. The view in the CH-47 is as if the camera is angled down 45 degree rather than straight forward. Anyone else having this issue?
  5. Do you think the improved visuals with the Pimax Crystal Super will be worth the increased cost when running DCS? Will DCS provide enough visual detail to take advantage of the higher resolution?
  6. I have the same issue. Bass shakers test fine in the app but no output in game. The HL8 works fine in app and in game. Trying to get the bass shakeer working by changing output from my PC, changing the relative effect levels in HL8 vs bass shaker, increasing output to bass shaker amp- no improvement but I did manage to possible damage the bass shaker amp. I cannot do any further trouble shooting until I get my amp fixed. Really disappointed that I couldn't get the bass shaker output in game similar to that in the testing effects in the app. I tried out the SimHaptic app, It was the opposite- Great Bass Shaker output but no appreciable HL8 output in game. I decided to stick with SimShaker for Aviators and the SimShaker Sound module as the effects for helicopter were better modeled in SSA than in SimHaptic. I spent a lot of time trying to get things to work. It was worth it to me, adding haptic feedback that changed based on flight parameters really added to immersion. Just knowing what the helicopter is doing based on different vibrations allows me to focus on fighting the helicopter without having to check instruments, more like flying based on feel rather than focusing on gauges. Turns out my subwoofer amp is OK- The only way I can get the bass shakers to work in game is if I set the in game speaker selection to the sound card I have the butt kicker connected tp, but then there is no sound output to my headphones or external speakers. You can enable two sets of audio outputs through windows 11 ( enabling stereo mix and specifying the second audio speaker in addition to the main speaker output) however it doesn't seem to work with DCS. Has anyone figured out how to get the butt kicker to work using the Sim Shaker audio module and still have audio output to headphones or speakers? ********************************************************************************************************************* Got It Working- I had been trying to use a usb creative sound blaster external sound card- That may have been the issue- I switched to the on board RealTek sound card. I am using Audeze Maxwell wireless headphones (they are worth the money, those and wireless TrackIr IR source ditches two cords . I added gel ear pads, now no overheated ears.) The Maxwells have a built in DAC and so function as their own sound card. I enabled stereo mix in windows and in the section of windows, system, sound, Volume Mixer under available apps ( Sim Shaker sound module may need to be open for it to show under apps) I highlighted Sim Shaker sound module and under output device I selected RealTek USB headphone. I connected the headphone jack to the subwoofer amp and from there to my bass shakers. Under the sound module app I selected the RealTek usb headphone as audio output device. Under Volume Mixer section under the DCS app I selected my headphones as the output device and now both the HL8 seat pad and the bass shaker work in game with sounds through my Maxwell headphones. Its working great!
  7. I have issue if GUI scale >1 but only notice it attempting to run instant action marianas AH-64D runway start. Other instant action on Marianas with AH-64D seem to work OK. Many hairs pulled out trying to remedy this!!! Fortunately I figured it out before using the nuclear options!! There may be other missions where this error occurs I am using 1440 resolution
  8. I was trying to figure this out myself.
  9. Another entry into force feedback is flitesim. They are releasing force feedback rudder pedals, yoke and joystick as well as numerous civilian flight sim control panels. The prices they mentioned at Flight Sim expo for the flight controls were amazing, around $100 or less. see https://flitesim.com/ EDIT: Looks like the prices for the yoke will be about a grand to 1,599. They said the price of the FFB joystick base was TBD, they hinted that it would be "competitive". Given that the Brunner is about $1,400 I guess maybe about $1,000. Too pricey imho, maybe for a commercial flight school but not for home consumer.
  10. Flitesim is also planning on releasing a line of FFB controls, yoke, pedals and joystick. Also a full line of civilian based flight control panels. From their presentation at flightsim expo 2024 the panels are going to be very attractively priced ( ie some less than $100. No mention of prices for the FFB flight controls). https://flitesim.com/ Moza is also releasing rudder pedals, throttle, joystick grip as well as the FFB base. They stated that the force generated will be 9 nM . The Moza FFB base has pre-drilled mounting holes on the base with various patterns. Looks like it will be compatible with MonsterTech, NextLevel Racing and others. The joystick mount will be compatible with Virpil, Thrustmaster as well as their own joystick grip. The grip will be configurable similar to VKB grips. WinWing looks to be discontinuing their helicopter collective. I wonder if they are planning on releasing an updated collective, something to match or exceed that offered by Virpil. If they do I wonder if we will see improvements to the Virpil collectives. Perhaps Virpil will release an upscale version similar to their alpha line of joystick grips. From what I have read the Virpil collective could be improved with better quality switches and perhaps more metal and less plastic. Looks like 2024-2025 will be a very interesting year for flight sim hardware'
  11. Could someone answer a few questions re SSA and DCS OH-58d Please? I just set up an NLR HF8, using SSA beta 2.7.12, latest DCS build. DCS is installed on D:\\ drive not the default C:\ drive, Saved game is installed on C:\ drive. I am getting some vibration through the HF8 but I wonder if I am missing some effects. I get vibration when on ground but after lifting off I don't get any vibrations until I am at risk for vortex ring state. When I increase pitch with the cyclic I hear the change in tone as the rotor blades bite but no vibration. As I accelerate or decelerate through ETL the cockpit shudders in game but no vibration from the HF8. If I come in hard triggering the airbags no vibration. If I crash no vibrations. As I land maybe, a slight vibration but not as much as I would have thought. Does this sound like I am seeing what's there to see (feel) or am I missing some vibration effects? Some problem with my configuration of SSA? Problems with my HF8 installation? Any help will be greatly appreciated!! If I select Realteus in the SSA software I get no vibration at all in game though testing the vibration in the settings software I get vibrations throught the HF8. I get more vibration in game if I leave it set to Gametrix. No matter what I do after flying missions I never can select the aircraft type. It remains showing only the generic aircraft types. ISSUE RESOLVED- I had copies of old DCS World in the saved game folder where my active DCS saved game folder was. I removed these copies of DCS. Log file showed SS4A was reading all copies of DCS. This helped but didn't solve all the issues. I uninstalled SS4A and all script files it had created (they persist in saved game script file after uninstall). I had installed HF8 software initially then uninstalled it when I couldn't get SS4A to work. It too, left orphan files in the saved game script folder. I removed that file, I ran DCS world repair then reinstalled SS4A. After doing those steps SS4A worked as it should. It is now setting up specifications for each aircraft as it is flown. Must have been some conflict
  12. Maybe I missed it- The statement from Polychop that this was the finished version of the module and that baring changes in the DCS core module no further changes or updates would be needed. Anyone? Anyone? Bueller? Bueller? My point is that Polychop has been working on this for years, and years that included a major economic downturn due to Covid. I gather they are a small company that does not perhaps have the resources of larger companies such as ED, resources that allow them to weather economic downturns. Maybe they could not afford to release this at a discounted price. Maybe they needed to sell the module at full price to keep improving this module and to support the Gazelle module. I don't have the Gazelle module but from what I have read it was pretty rough when released and was difficult to fly due to issues with the flight model but that Polychop has released updates that greatly improved the module. So it seems to me that if Polychop can stay in business we can expect them to continue to improve the Kiowa module and who knows, perhaps even in the future, release an AH-6/MH-6 module with "theoretical" avionics and weapons systems (because the AH-6 and MH-6 are still in active service with the 160th SOAR, using classified equipment). This brings up the business aspect of flight sims and even more niche, military flight sims. Yes, computer gaming is a huge business with sales exceeding that of mainstream entertainment categories. But flight sims and military flight simes in particular are a miniscule part of the computer gaming industry. There just isn't the revenue from flight sims to match that of other genres. And do you think that civilian aviation sims would be at the level they are currently if it were not for the deep pockets of Microsoft? The way I see it, anything we can do to support Eagle Dynamics, Polychop and the other companies producing the modules, the better our experience in DCS will be. Frankly I am surprised that DCS World is freeware and that, given the time and effort required to produce these aviation modules and maps, that they only cost 70 -80 dollars. I could easily see DCS World being a subscription software, charging 60-120 dollars per year and modules charging for non patch major upgrades. When you think about it, all Polchop has done is to do away with a pre-release 20-30% discount. You don't get early access (unless you are a beta tester). When it is released at full price you have access to a module that still requires updates and upgrades. The fantastic looking F-4E Phantom from Heatblur is now on sales for it's full retail price, it was released 19 days ago. And have you seen the amount of bug fixes and module improvements ( over 110 ) that came with the DCS update 5 days ago? What are you getting for your 15-20 dollar discount? Not early access, not a pre-patched version, you are just getting a small discount on a module that is not yet finished. What are the complaints about the OH-58D? The graphics could be improved? I guess, certainly compared to the photorealistic F-4E, but it could be improved in the future. Somewhat wonky sound? Yes, but the post from Polychop today re the partnership with Echo 19 sounds like upgraded audio will be released in the future. Damage modeling? I don't know about that, it seemed pretty good when I had a complete drivetrain failure requiring an (attempted) auto rotation after over torquing the helicopter. That seemed pretty sophisticated, though I can't say if that was accurately modeled as would have happened in real life. Airbags in the face when I set it down too hard? I was impressed. Flight model too easy? I can't judge that since I have never flown a helicopter in real life let alone an OH-58D. I will defer to Casmo on that, he walked the walk so I believe him when he talks the talk. Besides, given that our controls are not as in real life and that we lack the situational awareness as in real life, well perhaps compromises are unavoidable. I'm a rookie at flight sim helicopter pilot ( first flew Jane's Longbow in 1995 or 96 but had a long hiatus from flight sims as my career commitments left little time for anything as demanding as full fidelity flight sims such a Falcon 4.0 and then Falcon BMS and eventually DCS World. Having that perspective, starting PC flight sims in the early 1990's when you had to run them in MS-DOS and configure the PC using command line code to enable the PC to run the sim I am totally blown away with the flight sims we now have access to. Perhaps that is why I am not as bothered by these areas that can ( and likely will ) be improved. I don't regret buying this module even at full price. Can it be improved? Of course, but is it finished enough to fly and fight? From what I have seen the answer is yes. So I will support this hobby of ours, paying full retail if necessary, it's in all our best interests to keep these companies in business. I would rather have an OH-58D module that may need some improvements than having no module at all. So yes, I will pay an extra 15-20 dollars to support our hobby.
  13. Has anyone tried the new setting option under "special" for cyclic. collective and anti-torque button sensitivity? There are three sliders ranging from 0.05 to 5 for each of the button sensitivities. I briefly tried setting them to the extremes and then tried the settings in game ( using HOTAS and pedals) and didn't notice any significant differences in the handling of the OH-6A. Are these for use if using a keyboard control of the helicopter ( I cannot imagine trying to fly this mod using only a keyboard. It's challenging enough with a Hotas and pedals! ) ?
  14. Are The HUD Brightness Controls Enabled In the Mod?
  15. That's how I now have it installed. I was using OVGME to install/deinstall the mod and so I had to add the correct folder structure. It threw me that the unzipped Mod is just the UH-60L folder and the instructions for install didn't specify that it needed to go in the aircraft folder in the Mods folder under saved games. I guess when the readme said to drop the UH-60L folder into the saved game file folder that it was understood that it had to be installed under aircraft in the Mods folder.
  16. Install Question- The readme says to unzip the file and drop the mod into the saved game file. When I unzip the latest release the parent folder is UH-60L . No Mod folder or aircraft folder. I tried installing the UH-60L folder into the save game folder and it didn't work. Shouldn't the UH-60L folder reside in aircraft folder in a Mods folder? and then install the mod folder into the saved game folder? I want to be sure I've installed it correctly. By adding the UH-60L to an aircraft folder inside a Mods folder the install works. Sorry, I'm new to adding mods and the other mods I have installed had that file structure within the zipped original mod download. Am I installing the mod correctly?
  17. I'll give it a try. From the videos of it that i've seen it clearly is rotating counter clock wise. Must be an illusion on my part.
  18. I figured out my throttle issues, I think I screwed up installing the mod. I tried setting up ovge and messed it up. I removed the mod and reinstalled correctly. It may have been double binding as I noticed with the bad install that (after crashing) and restarting an instant mission that my bindings were changing. All seems well now. I managed to get it under moderate control after decreasing the saturations of the y axis of the joystick axis and cranking up the curves to 60. It still looks to me from in the cockpit that the rotor is spinning clockwise.looking at the rotor from in the cockpit that the rotor appears to be spinning clockwise. Anyone else think this?
  19. Is it me or is the rotor spinning Clockwise? It seemed to yaw left with increased power instead of the usual (for us helicopters) to the right.
  20. I'm sorry but I'm not sure what you mean by linking the update. How do you specify the updater to open the MT version and not the non MT version
  21. Thank You, I think you answered it. I would like to have the lights of the plane diagram on the CP2 change color based on gear lever position and at the same time have the throttle led's change based on which of the 5 modes are selected. In that case I will need to install both throttle and CP2 as stand alone and not primary/slave. In standalone connection the LED's of the CP2 will not change in sync with the LED's of the throttle depending on mode state. I was confused because all examples of setting up the landing gear lights said that the throttle could not be configured in the 5 way mode. It would seem that the only benefit of connecting the CP2 in slave mode is that it saves one USB port. Fortunately I just upgraded my PC to a mid tower from a laptop and I now have enough USB ports on the motherboard that I don't need to use USB ports for any of my flight gear.
  22. I have Virpil CM3 throttle, Control panel 2 and CM3 base/Alpha grip. I would like to configure my Control panel lights to reflect my landing gear position and perhaps master arm status etc but I would also like to configure the throttle to have 5 modes, such as take off/landing, ground attack, air to air mode etc. The tutorials I have seen on youtube all have control panel attached to throttle as slave and they all specify that you must not be in 5 way mode of throttle to be able to configure landing lights for gear position. If you attach Control panel as stand alone are you still limited to 6 Shift states over all Virpil devices in use or only 6 between throttle and control panel when attached in slave mode? As an aside- I am blown away with the power of the Virpil Configuration software ,BUT given that power I wish there were more detailed documentation provided by Virpil.
  23. As it stands now, if you run DCS updater and there isn't an update the program loads the non multithread DCS. It would be nice if you had the option of specifying a dcs version to load if no update is found. Perhaps an Updater located in the MT Bin rather than just in the non MT Bin.
  24. I'd be interested if I was in the UK. Can you comment on the cost of the replacement switches and what is involved in changing them? I recently started using a Virpil Constellation grip and am less than satisfied with the switches. To me, they are less precise than my 15+ yr old TMW switches.
