DCS: F-14A/A+/B by Heatblur Simulations coming to DCS World!
dekiplav replied to Cobra847's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
Can someone calculate the approximate distance from witch the first Phoenix was fired ??? At 07:00:15 the first missile was fired and hit it's target at 07:01:18. Total flight time 01 min and 03 sec :smartass:. My guess is that it was fired somewhere between 15000 to 20000 feet. :D -

If true it makes sense :). -
Modelled AIM-54 effect on a typical DCS PvP server
dekiplav replied to Pikey's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
I have always wondered why the the most common F-14 payload was: 2 x Aim-54's under the fuselage stations, 2 or 3 x Aim-7's and 2 x Aim-9's. instead of: 2 x Aim-54's under the pylon stations, 2 x Aim-9's, 4 x Aim-7's under the fuselage. I can't figure out why the first payload configuration was more common. The first thing that comes in my mind is not having to mount the phoenix pallets anytime F-14 is needed for intercept missions (4 x Aim-54's) etc... The later payload on the first look gives the F-14 two more sparrows and doesn't rob the Tomcat from the extra fuselage lift that F-14 is dependent to perform well in dogfights. -
I don't know what is all the fuss about regarding the FM's. Everything is explained nicely here: https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=122801 . It says about EFM the following: " What forces and moments are applied to this rigid body from aerodynamics and any other sources except the contact forces is up to EFM developer." So for example in LNS MiG-21 one of the coders is ex MiG-21 pilot, so... do anybody really thinks because it has EFM is less accurate than some modules that have PFM. It has been confirmed by other pilots that the MiG-21 feels the most like flying a real jet. I don't think that the third party developers are constrained in developing less accurate FM than ED. Like it says EFM is just an designation that stands for external flight modeling. And really unless you're not a ex pilot of the aircraft that has been modeled, its unlikely you can tell the difference :). Just enjoy flying you're favorite aircraft, I mean people keep forgetting that not long ago the only study flight sims out there where the ones released in 1990's (Jane's F-15, F-18 and Falcon 4) and nobody complained about them and tough that they where the real thing :) and had lots of fun, and compering them by today standards are like ... I don't know... far less than SFM I suppose.

Thanks! I really enjoy reading this forum, I have learn a lot of stuff from you guys.:)

Is it possible to make similar comparison between F-14B and Su-27? I've always wondered how the F-14B will hold its own in a turning fight against Su-27.
-
Don't worry, I'm 100% sure that the final product will be much, much beater than the second picture you posted :music_whistling:.

I made a mistake in my previous post. F-14A where not upgraded with SparrowHawk HUD. Thanks
-
F-14 A & B had later in their service life installed sparrowhawk HUD. F-14D had HUD from the beginning of their service but I think it was not sparrowhawk model, aldo not 100% sure.
-
The original one. Like one shown in the picture. No airspeed and altitude indicators, but 100% unique and cool. Sparrowhawk can't come even close in cool factor the original HUD had :D.

:poster_oops: I attached them as thumbnails now. Probably because I target them from Dropbox. Sorry.

I have noticed in some very old documentaries that the F-14 had a different color VDI. Does anyone know when and why the USN replaced the old VDI with the, I presume newer (all green) VDI and where there any advantages in the newer one? Here is a you tube video, just go at 13:20. About "F-21" reference :), I guess everybody is referring to the "Attack Super Tomcat-21" right? I mean the plane on the pic?
-
What potential enemy jet F-14 was used to simulate? I know A-4 was for MiG-17, F-5 for MiG-21, F-21A Kfir for MiG-23. The closes thing that it comes to my mind is probably the Su-27 or MiG-31. By the way excellent pictures Hummingbird.

I've heard stories that the F-14B armed with 2xAim-54, 2xAim-7, 2xAim-9 and fuel tanks can use its afterburner to break the sound barrier and get to a certain mach number, then go back to full mil power and as long as the pilot flies straight and level, the F-14B will stay at that speed. Can anyone share their thoughts on this?

Will the F-14B that Leatherneck is working on have a LANTIRN pod?
dekiplav replied to Blitz262's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
So... it's possible to have LANTRIN on F-14B with its original cockpit (no MFD's)? Is the target picture shown in the TID? If that's the case, then there is no problem having the LANTRIN pod. But if LNS have to totally redesign the RIO pit... and in the future comes along a theater ... let say First Gulf War... and you are cruising in you're flashy MFD pit ... well its just not authentic -
I know it is too early to talk about from what I am about to ask, because the Tomcat isn't going to be ready anytime soon and we can't actually try an fight against a Su-27 in DCS, but can anyone guess what would be the best tactics that the Tomcat pilot could apply against Su-27. I mean from what I understood so far, against F-15 you try to fly low and slow, against F-18 you try make him lose energy, then take the fight in to the vertical, clean F-16/MiG-29 are tricky but if you prolong/survive long enough by superb flying they'll be out of fuel, or to get them in a slow turning fight, but versus a Su-27 I cant think of nothing except taking advantage of pilot error. This is just my opinion I'm not stating this as a fact. Many find this boring and childish but I just cant get enough about F-14 vs X WVR arena :D.
-
How about versus a Su-27/33. Is there any part of the flight envelope that a Tomcat has an advantage?:dunno: Against F-15 it is a 50/50 situation, as captain_dalan showed a couple a months ago in his charts, but against another great slow speed turning aircraft that has plenty of gas, unlike F-16/18 and MiG-29 :music_whistling:. Something tels me that the Flanker would be a Tomcat worst nightmare in WVR arena :D.
-
I'm in. That X-52 sure beats my current Saitek ST290 pro :D. Thanks! Number: 588

Congratulations Gloom Demon on wining the Mig-21Bis, enjoy flying your new module and try not to pick up any fights with F-15's or Flankers ... it probably won't end well Thanks to Devrim for the nice gesture and I will hold you're word for that beer:beer:. Happy holidays to all and have a great time for New Year's eve! :drunk:

For a MiG-21 I'll give it a try :D Here it goes: A young man walks in a a drugstore and ask for a condom. The pharmacist says the condoms come in packs of 3, 9 or 12 and asks which the young man wants. "Well," he said, "I've been seeing this girl for a while and she's really hot. I want the condoms because I think tonight's "the" night. We're having dinner with her parents, and then we're going out. And I've got a feeling I'm gonna get lucky after that. Once she's had me, she'll want me all the time, so you'd better give me the 12 pack." The young man makes his purchase and leaves. Later that evening, he sits down to dinner with his girlfriend and her parent's. He asks if he might give the blessing, and they agree. He begins the prayer, but continues praying for several minutes. The girl leans over and says, "You never told me that you were such a religious person." He leans over to her and whispers, "You never told me that your father is a pharmacist."

I think just because of that they are staying quiet. :D -
Thanks. I would like to try my luck. :)
