Thanks, I'll try it :) JD

I would host myself, but I have a problem starting the server. I get the flashing 'pause' symbol, but I can't click it (nothing happens) or otherwise get it to start, when everything else is ready. :noexpression: JD

Voice Activated Commands

Did you switch VAC on - by right-clicking it in the taskbar/notification area and selecting it from the pop-up menu? When all is well to use VAC - you will see this icon in the tray: -
Where are VAC files located? new computer?
JD_LincsUK replied to hollywoody's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
In Win7, turn on 'show all files', go into the appdata folder in users and then 'Roaming' folder and you will find it in a VAC folder in there. 2.3.1 doesn't save the profiles in the VAC System folder. Next time, use the backup option from the VAC menu, so you know where they are. ;) JD -

D'oh! Never mind - I should use the profile editor, I know - I've been directly editing the xml file! Still, that does the job, too :music_whistling: JD :D PS - don't know why this topic was moved from "Game Controllers" forum, though - because what is VAC if not that? -
Regardless of authenticity, it added a very interesting (imho) twist to the mission. It was my first op against enemy forces covered by SAMs in BS, and it certainly added to the challenge, costing me 4 ships in total (one indirectly - thanks again, Rusty ;) ). Besides which, didn't you manage to frag a Roland or two, Eddie? The main method was just to fly very low to get past them - and it worked. I even had my gear down and touched the ground several times whilst sneaking past one - but it kept me alive. Stay below 15m and you're okay. JD
-
I don't have a solution to that - but won't it be fun when the A-10 is released, with this kind of mission - just call 'em in to take out the SAMs as you come across them - joint ops :) And we all know how much the jockeys like SEAD... Mind you - it could get crowded down the canyon - more excitement. :pilotfly: JD

That was what was causing me issues to now - I didn't know that 2.3.1 was released (it's not so obvious on the VAC site until you find the relevant link). I've printed the help files and will get stuck in at the weekend  Thanks for uploading your BS profile - I'm printing it out as I type this. I would like to change a couple of things (such as deleting the TIR Precision command) and change some keys that I re-assigned in game - purely for my own use, of course. Is Notepad++ the correct tool to use for this? TiA JD PS - I got your ArmA2 profile, too - don't by any chance have one for ArmA that you'd be willing to share, do you? (and do I need AHK installed to use any of them? thanx :) ) -
Got it working now (with 2.3.1) JD

Fun again last night - thanks for the help again, I'm obviously the greenest sprog of the group :) Took some more happy snaps: This is the home base: Here's Eddie returning to it, minus the left engine... Then we found the best way to go Roland and Hawk hunting: ...well, perhaps not - but that was the first of 3 or 4 to go down at that point. I got hit by a Humvee approaching a supposedly 'safe' FARP 2. Electrics out - no lift etc etc, so I landed and tried to shoot the beggar from the ground... ... but couldn't see him through the trees and so couldn't get a bead on him - but the guys, in true team spirit, came along to help and I ejected to watch the show... ...but then Rusty/HiJack got a little carried away... Thanks, mate! We then proceeded to take FARP 2 with a "Scorched Earth" tactic: As Rusty mentioned, he spooked me by lasing my aircraft as I was trying to sneak up on a SAM - but I got my revenge, by continually trying to panic him over TS as he was passing the same point - just to rub it in, mate, here's another pic of HiJack 'flying low' :megalol: This left only Woots to fly the flag - here he just came across the .50 cal from the Humvee mentioned in HiJack's post Woot's up? Needless to say, even though we didn't reach the end of the mission, a good time was had by all. My very sore neck, from craning it forward, trying to spot those pesky SAMs, is testament to how involving and fun these meets are. Same time, next week  JD

I wish I could get it working on my PC - still using Voice Buddy - though I have no problems with that. VAC just keeps crashing on start-up. One day, when I have more time, I'll go along to the forums and see what they say about it - I just tend to get fed up with having to look for solutions to program problems before I can run them (same with some FSX voice control software that tends to be expensive). JD

Yeah, last week was fun, too - despite the marathon trek to the AO in the second mission. Best bit for me was slaloming through the town at rooftop height, trying to dodge the ZSU fire. Great stuff. Still copped something on the edge of town, though (ran out of buildings!) and lost the hydraulics. I tried to autogyrate down to the ground, but the vertical speed was just too high, and though I landed nicely on the gear, it bounced right up again, and flipped over! :surprise: Frustrating.... but fun. Silly thing is, I was still alive - but stuck in the cockpit. Oh well, new plane, please... Sorry about all the waffle and expletives on TS, guys - but I was enjoying it :pilotfly: Looking forward to this week's sorties - I've had some time to practice this week - still not up on the comms yet, though - thought shooting properly was more important ;) JD PS - just wanna say thanks to those guys who helped me achieve my first kill - even if it was just a fuel truck :idiot:

It's the standard X52. I've tried a second keybaord - same story. Anyway, as I said - I have got around the issue by re-assigning the actions and functions that require the right shift keypress. I mentioned R Alt (or Alt Gr if ya like) in a previous post, but that's okay. Thanks for the input - I have a few years' experience of SST, but I won't feel insulted by the one or two painfully obvious suggestions here or not reading my posts properly :smartass: , I know you don't know that. (and I'm a sceptical old git :D ) My SST profiles for LO:FC have, in fact, been downloaded around 3,000 times - so I must be doing it competently. Anyway, like I said before, I really don't want to make the big investigation on this - I've got around it and I'm happy with the result - I actually stopped subscribing to this thread yesterday as I though it was finished with - that's why I am late responding to queries :) I tested my SST profile last night and all is working well. See you on the front :joystick: JD
-
Yes, it is weird - but it's nice to at least see that I'm not alone with this problem. As mentioned, I have tried all the available methods of input and those keys just aren't recognised at all by SST. It may be the keyboard itself, it may be something with the version of windows - who knows? Something is preventing SST from recognising right shift. Later today, I'll try using it with Voice Buddy and see how I get on - just to check if it acknowledges that input or not. If not, I'll try a different keyboard - but I'm not gonna spend too much time trying to solve it, as the initial issue is resolved. JD
-
That doesn't address the issue being discussed. However, I have re-assigned the required actions with qualifiers other than RShift and RAlt and have the problem sorted. JD
-
Turns out I do have the latest - reinstalled anyway and it still won't work. Re-assign it is, then. :disgust: JD
-
Thanks for the replies - I'll check it out. I usually keep up to date with drivers and software, but I currently have so many, it's easy to miss one out :) I also recall having lots of problems with some SST releases in the past. I probably thought I'd stick with one that worked - I've not had problems with the version I'm on before now (updated when Win7 retail was released). I just checked and it's 6.0.10.7 - it's the 64bit version (if there's any difference). I downloaded it on 30 Dec 09, but it is dated 21 Jan 09. I'll go look what they are offering at Saitek. JD

This may have been covered before - on searching, there were hundreds of results, the first few dozen were nothing to do with my issue. Basically, I've been having some issues on the rookie missions which turned out to be due to actions programmed to my X52 via SST, that were not activating on button push. For example the laser rangefinder switch and some other targeting actions. On inspecting the profile in SST, I find that it is not accepting the right shift key as a qualifier, or at all, in fact. Neither in key-press, macro or record mode. Does anyone have a solution to this, or am I going to have to start reassigning functions in the controls menu? (again :bored: ) TiA JD

Voice Activated Commands
JD_LincsUK replied to StrongHarm's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I didn't know VAC could be used with ArmA/II. My biggest beef with those games is the crappy comms/orders systems. I have ArmA - the a.m. comms/orders system keeps me from playing it regularly, even though I'd really like to - but when I saw that ArmA II was the same, there was no way I was buying it. In this day and age, there is no excuse at all for using such a rubbish system and not having voice commands. There are loads available for FSX, with genre-specific, technical expressions the norm, so a tactical shooter/sim should be really easy for the developers to do voice commands with the game. Voice Buddy 3.0 is about 4 years old and it kicks ass in Doom 3 (not a tac shooter, but nevertheless) - makes it a whole new experience. When are they going to learn? It'd up their sales of ArmA II dramatically (and OFP2-DR - but then, the console guys don't have Voice Control - do they?) - no doubt. Anyway, thanks for the info here on VAC - I've had it a couple of weeks but not had time to check it out yet. I'll get there. :) JD -
Can't you just host your own multiplayer session and fly in that? You can then stop anyone else from joining in a number of ways, if you want to do it alone. JD
-
I tend not to get on with other people's profiles, but I'll check it out, thanks. I did finish my 'beta' profile a couple of hours ago, though one or two buttons (hats as 4-way) are conflicting with default ones. I have a habit of forgetting to switch modes. Rusty, I was on your server earlier. The briefing looked the same as the one we flew yesterday, but somehow the terrain didn't. Maybe because it was in daylight... anyway I didn't find you or any enemy and left to do some SP practice with those ID missions someone posted. JD

The X52. No, I wouldn't dream of trying to put everything in the profile (is that possible?) - I did check what's on the real stick - but I'm concentrating on what I need often - and trying not to stray too far from my FC profile so I don't get confused when switching from one to the other. With the exception of the wheelbrake and AP, I have kept to the real stick controls anyway. Of course I have a stack of other stuff available - and that is the long bit. :) JD
-
Yeah, thanks a lot for hosting, Rusty - I'll be sure to pop in evenings  I'm just working out an SST profile for BS and it's a nightmare. I think I have the important stuff included, but I keep finding other stuff that seems vital, too. :joystick: Oh well - I 'll have to adjust as we go. Did anyone notice that there are far too many keyboard controls for this sim? :ermm: JD
-
A fun evening. Was nice to meet you guys at last and have a blast! I learned more this evening by flying along than in the last 3 weeks reading manuals (data overload). Still haven't fired a shot in anger, though - I missed that damn master arm switch - d'oh! :music_whistling: Took some happy snaps- I've not set up the AA/AF yet, so a bit jaggy: Looking forward to next week's meet - I'll be getting in lotsa practice in the meantime. DataLink and Targeting. JD

I had a guy do that in FC when I was practising with the Su25T. I blew him away with an R70 or rockets (can't remember which) and he didn't bother me any more. He actually found it funny that I blew him up - so he might be a dork but at least he was a dork with a sense of humour :) JD
