meh who needs autopilots in jets...never really needed them much, since jets are quite simple to fly...(airliners etc are a different matter) blackshark though...yeah autopilot rocks lol

Initial impressions and a huge thanks
Downey Jr. replied to PedroTheGoat's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
yeah as far as the new sound engine in FC 2...it seems to run so much smoother than BS...unless its just BS' complexity that inherently makes it consume more resources... looking forward to the patch for FC and BS!!! not sure if I'll fly the ka-50 or switch over to something like the frogfoot or warthog -
lol ...steam gauges... on top of that Im pretty sure the pit is all russian...doublelol actually I might like this...the simplified way to fly ;) Quite interesting to fly a multi-jet sim again...get to compare and contrast all the different jets both US and russian...kinda like a more advanced Janes ATF hehe...nice job ED!

at the cost of sounding stupid cause I looked into this for a few moments... where's the HUD on the Su-25? am I missing something? *EDIT* nevermind I guess its a very limited hud...for only basic weapon reticles and such...assuming gotta use the old fashion way of using the instruments

lol this would be great for a dynamic campaign where keeping your pilot alive matters... you could infiltrate the enemy base on foot and then it turns into bad company 2

what the...help! A-10 rocket firing
Downey Jr. replied to Downey Jr.'s topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
oh yeah it did, I posted this in the bug thread but forgot to mention that here... you are correct one can't fire a maverick like that so I created 2 weapon release buttons...kinda a pain but I just pinkie clutched the fire button for mavericks... its a temporary solution but I can live with it...I realize that with so many aircraft in lockon that ED models we're gonna get quirks here and there. As long as it now works more as intended I'm cool with it. -
ok last update gonna have to macro two versions of weapon release because mavericks wont fire with that quick sequence...

what the...help! A-10 rocket firing
Downey Jr. replied to Downey Jr.'s topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
ok I figured it out...its all in the way you program your buttons...you need to go into advanced commends if you own a x52 and program in the press window the ralt-space VERY quickly...tap it you should have a .100 delay on the space release this way you can release a pair of rockets!...not sure if this could affect anything else but dropping bombs there was no delay after pressing weapon release not sure either if you can group more rockets or maybe just go with salvo mode (not tried that yet) but now you can easily release the least amount of rockets every time you fire -
I agree FC2 is pretty awesome...trying to get a friend to get it so I can get a lil multiplayer going...def wanna join a squadron at some point
-
thanks man Ill check out the track... I tried many combos of presses and holds on the saitek software...I think found one that shot 4 rockets only I'm not sure I quite understand 'Weapons Release' to single keypress with Hold modifier...would you hold ralt and place the space key on single press without release? *EDIT* ok I figured it out...its all in the way you program your buttons...you need to go into advanced commends if you own a x52 and program in the press window the ralt-space VERY quickly...tap it you should have a .100 delay on the space release this way you can release a pair of rockets!...not sure if this could affect anything else but dropping bombs there was no delay after pressing weapon release not sure either if you can group more rockets or maybe just go with salvo mode (not tried that yet) but now you can easily release the least amount of rockets every time you fire

I posted this in a thread but the rockets release from the A-10 is EXTREMELY sensitive and causes you to lose your entire load instantly... I heard others have this issue...what's the deal? I'd like to fire a moderate or pick the number of rockets I fire

I don't think ANY of us on this forum community would ever think its just yanking around a joystick...but could we make an educated case on how to fly a glider? yeah I think so...hitting wind thermals on what surfaces, mountains, how to glide and gain/lose altitude etc. at least we have the idea down right? and your analogy of everyone would then be a pilot if they could fly BS is flawed... seeing as what it actually takes to become a pilot requires years and dedication from your life. case in point I was seriously thinking about being a pilot rather than going fully into the music business, could I have been a pilot? I think so on some level, I'm a good student and obviously I love flight sims since I was 4-6 years old. but many things including location of schools, life etc...made me stick with music. hell everyone with computers and usb/firewire can record their own music, but does everyone succeed or do great? some do and some don't but the majority DESPITE being awesome songwriters/bands never get signed and make money...just like many could be great pilots and don't become pilots.

New "tweaked" frogfoot's AFM - Do you like it?
Downey Jr. replied to Vecko's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
YES...it does feel like the A-10 is an arcade...I told my friend who's weary of sims to get FC2.0 just cause the warthog is soooo easy to fly lol...it feels like I'm playing Sega's Afterburner or something...either that or I must be an expert pilot ;0 no complaints here...it's fn fun now...if not being a bit easy to mow down everything in its path -
Can't launch missiles on Lock On 2
Downey Jr. replied to zahedia3's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
hehe yeah what Havoc said, Im just yanking yer chain bro...but seriously now I have a similar issue in FC 2.0... when firing rockets it appears its extremely sensitive and fires your entire salvo leaving you with no rockets left...some others confirmed this to be an issue but I'd like to know if anyone else has issues firing small quantities of hydra rockets rather than 2 trillion blowing all your ammo. -
ok so anyone using x-52 hotas...how did you configure your weapon release especially for firing rockets like on the A-10?? Because it seems extremely sensitive, I fire a trillion of them with a tap and run out of rockets. It's slightly better on the keyboard if I tap it but still fires insane random amounts of rockets...how does this work? I don't want to fire 2 trillion rockets at a truck if I can avoid it ;) ralt-space are the keys i believe unless Im missing something I tried everything ripple quantity (which I assumed were for the mk bombs anyways) HALP MEEE!! ....btw having a blast on Flaming Cliffs 2 ...didn't think I'd like the simplified stuff, but it reminds me of the good old days of Janes ATF or EF2000 or anyother sim besides Falcon and BS ;)

ok for instance this, I know what you mean, actually I believe FSX simulates this quite well, and you with a jet liner you get that feeling where you think you are level but in reality gaining altitude rapidly or losing it for that matter...also when you are in the clouds in FSX you could easily lose orientation in fact the bermuda mission takes this to a whole new degree requiring you to fly by instrument only... all I'm saying is that like anything else of course you would need to fly the real thing to gain the proper training and ability...HOWEVER simulators especially new ones I believe really do assist in giving you many aspects of training...navigation both gps, vor...military also, weapons etc... Pilots and trainees that have attested to being helped by being sim fans I truly believe...pilots who just say 'nope totally different you cannot fly the real thing' are either elitist or don't acknowledge the fact that sims help... I think sims help, and many real world pilots do too...the pilots who claim they have thousands and thousands of hours and say you'll crash and die before even taking off is a bit extreme, now as for blackshark? I think blackshark is a bitch to fly meaning extremely hard...no idea if ED made it harder than real life or not but then again every heli sim I've played has been modeled so wildly different that I simply cannot tell. So to answer the OP's question...no he can't fly one in real life, but it would sure hell give him a huge head start depending how good he got at blackshark if he went into real world training program. Just like all the other academic knowledge training courses require, much of that can be gained in a faithful simulator

if you have 7000 hours logged in real civilian and military aircraft which seems like quite a bit, why don't you tell us the differences in flight dynamics from something like FSX and BS and Falcon? I hear everyone give their 2 cents but I'd like real pilots to actually specify the differences with details rather than saying yes or no hypotheticals. I read several accounts at least crafts like Cessna (simplest to fly) simulators do a great deal to benefit those interested in flying. But even real pilots here are not actually telling us simmers what is different and what is wrong about the sims...the whole feel and environment is granted yes we all know its different but thats to get accustomed to with real flight time and training.

we need maps...like Falcon 3.0 came with maps of the theaters you could locate where you were based on the coordinates. I'd like to get something like that for FSX...I don't know how accurate looking at real world flight maps would work with it...I would assume pretty well? -

heh, well when I was at my previous job (big corporation) I printed out the entire manual in color and made a nice binder for the blackshark manual...I've yet to really dig into it, been doing things step by step slowly. Oh and I also did the same for the gigantic manual for Falcon Allied Force...unfortunately once I learned it again I stopped playing to move on to BS... BUT NOW...I'm on Flaming Cliff 2 lol...I'm working on printing out the manual and learning the controls for all the different aircraft The weight test was indeed a valid point back in the day...except for F22 ADF which had a hefty manual but I did not like that sim at all...not a worthy successor to EF2000 v2.0 in my opinion. -

oh the memories... when sims back then actually had great lil details outside the actual sim...like Janes Longbow with its great interface and manual and when you earned a medal you feel like you deserved it. Janes Longbow is in my top 5, most enjoyable game for me Falcon 3 had a war room and your wingman seemed like real characters...Falcon 4 scrapped all of it...did you guys know it was originally going to have a 3d war room? sometimes you need that flair and polish like EA did with Janes in their heyday -
can someone please use an analogy somewhat more relevant? look I'm shooting and running around in Counterstrike with a mouse and keyboard...not an actual gun... again I think controls do make a difference here. The nhl and counterstrike analogies are terrible...yes the feel of the heli and atmosphere etc. make all the difference I understand...but you gain much knowledge and at least some level of understanding of the flight mechanics from a solid sim. Many people use the Cessna example from FSX, I fully agree, I think stepping into flight school I feel much more prepared than a student who doesn't play flight sims like we do.
