lanmancz
Yeah, but I don't have a solder. I'd have to buy that too just to put the thing together. That's why I'm interrested in finding out how those strips work. Cause the reflective tape costs like 2 euros. I imagine something like this. It looks easy to make : http://www.free-track.net/images/point_model_gallery/nilux_08.jpg?PHPSESSID=7613d885ff1d0c088551fbfef612f11c But the question is if this requires additional IR light to make it work. ED Team BIGNEWY Posted January 26, 2012 ED Team Share Posted January 26, 2012 I have seen a few setups that use Wii controlers as a source, have a look at the freetrack website and you will get an idea :) http://www.free-track.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=482&page=2 Forum rules - DCS Crashing? lanmancz
I found this vid here : that guy is using cheap a4tech webcam with 6 ir diodes and it seems it works nice. I'll give it a try. edit : WOW ! FreeTrack works really great ! If only I knew sooner that I can build my own headtracking device using nothing more than a cheap webcam, an old baseball cap and 3 pieces of reflective tape. All together worth no more than 15 euros! Also I can really recommend the a4tech pk-333e webcam - it has build in 6 IR diodes, no IR filter (at least I think it doesn't have one cause it's a nightvision cam and I didn't need to remove it to make it see the reflective strips), it works really good right out of the box - 120 fps @ 640x480, no problem. Aries
120 fps @ 640x480, no problem. You sure getting 120 FPS? Cause in specs for that camera it says 30FPS at VGA resolution (640x480)? I get 125 on my PS3 Eye only when i set it to 320x240... and it's a gamers cam... [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] ...the few, the proud, the remaining... lanmancz
It is 30 "hardware" FPS but increased by freetrack to 120. I have no lag at all. Are you sure those 125 on ps3 cam isnt virtual as well ? anyway, as I said, no lag, no problem [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Gigabyte Aorus Z390 Elite, Intel i9 9900K, Fractal Design Kelvin S36, Zotac GTX 1070 8GB AMP Extreme, 32GB DDR4 HyperX CL15 Predator Series @ 3000 MHz, Kingston SSD 240GB (OS), Samsung 970 EVO 1TB M.2 NVMe (sim), Fractal Design Define R5 Black Window, EVGA SuperNOVA 750 G2, Win 10 Home x64, Thrustmaster Warthog HOTAS, Saitek Pro Flight Rudder Pedals, Thrustmaster MFD Cougar Pack, TrackIR (DelanClip), 3x 27" BenQ EW2740L, Oculus Rift S
