VH-Rock Posted March 3, 2014 Posted March 3, 2014 (edited) One of the best things about making your own mods is getting to do cool flights like this. Last night, all 4 members of our development team took to the air in some of our Spitfires for some formation work and a tail chase. Make sure you turn the volume up - the sound is incredible! Sharpe Posted March 3, 2014 Posted March 3, 2014 okay, I'm officially envious now and secondly here's something you might want to look at
VH-Rock Posted March 3, 2014 Author Posted March 3, 2014 That must have been awesome to see! Virtual Horsemen - Right Wing (P-51) - 2008... Virtual Ultimate Fighters - Lead (P-47) - 2020...
Pman Posted March 3, 2014 Posted March 3, 2014 oh yeah that was awesome I was at that show, gives me goosebumps whenever I think about it :D Pman
Stonehouse Posted March 4, 2014 Posted March 4, 2014 Guess someone has to ask the obvious question, are you just torturing us for fun ;D or is there a time down the track that us poor unfortunates might get our grubby mitts on these? Really nice work by the way, really nice!
VH-Rock Posted March 4, 2014 Author Posted March 4, 2014 Hi guys, I'll look at getting our videos hosted on Vimeo too, to see if that can solve the copyright issues. Thanks for letting me know, I'll see what we can do :) @Stonehouse, Thank you for the compliments. I'm afraid, at the minute, we have no plans to release any of our aircraft for a few reasons. The first, is that our aircraft have been developed purely for our aerobatic team. This means that they have no working weapons, no damage model, a very basic collision model and all of our aircraft fly similarly to the P-51 Mustang. They also all use the P-51 cockpit (For now - we're working on getting custom cockpits working). For the purpose of formation aerobatics, they work absolutely fine. Combat however, would be a completely different matter. If we were to ever consider releasing these aircraft, we would have to spend considerably more time working on all these extra details to get them fit for combat use by the community (Which is what I would assume most of the community would want a Spitfire for). Finally, I used to work for a mod team in IL-2 which released lots of aircraft to the community. Whilst we enjoyed seeing people fly our aircraft, there were always those members of the community that had nothing but negative comments and demands towards the developers. I see the same attitude in some members here towards the official 3rd party devs and, tbh, we just don't want the hassle of coming home from work and having to read through all of that... As I mentioned above, these aircraft are built to suit a purpose - the purpose of flying formation aerobatics. If we released them, a lot of people would complain about them not having X,Y or Z or this little detail being completely wrong... We started modding to bring something unique to our air shows. I don't think a lot of people realise just how much time and effort it takes to get mods working in DCS. We've spent a considerable amount of money and a vast amount of time working to get where we are today. We still have a long way to get before we would consider something we have made to be ready for release... Afterall, we only started learning how to do this in January. Maybe you'll see something released from us next year if we're comfortable with our work. Virtual Horsemen - Right Wing (P-51) - 2008... Virtual Ultimate Fighters - Lead (P-47) - 2020...
Pman Posted March 4, 2014 Posted March 4, 2014 Just to expand what Rock was saying All the aircraft although based on the P-51D do fly differently and you cant fly the Spitfire the same way as the Mustang and again differently from the P-38J. We have cockpits for some of our aircraft and are working on the others and with abit of creative work I can get them working in the sim but a completely custom AFM is out of the questions as none of us have the expertise in C++ nor do we have the funds (as a small private mod) to pay someone to make the AFM either. I actually have a plan of how it would go if we did go down that route but for now its off the table. If you want to see more of our piccies and videos check out the facebook page :) Pman
Stonehouse Posted March 4, 2014 Posted March 4, 2014 pman and Rock, Thanks for the reply and I do understand your position perfectly. If you do get around to letting them out in the wild one day it'll be a nice surprise for us all. In the meantime look forward to more of the videos and pics. Cheers.
VH-Rock Posted March 4, 2014 Author Posted March 4, 2014 Hi Folks, Video is now on Vimeo :) [VV]88141878[/VV] Virtual Horsemen - Right Wing (P-51) - 2008... Virtual Ultimate Fighters - Lead (P-47) - 2020...
Stonehouse Posted March 7, 2014 Posted March 7, 2014 Some slightly lateral thinking, I know it was said these wouldn't get released and that's fine but it occurred to me that one of the big challenges of making missions for the P51D is lack of period static objects. Is there any chance of taking the external models you have and easily creating a mod of static Spits? It might even be of use to your displays and videos I guess.

It's certainly something we could look into, However, we would still need to create damaged versions if they were to be used as targets etc... At the minute, we're making big strides forward each week. This week, we've learned how to get Spec maps & Bump maps working and we've also made a start on a working clickable cockpit. So, as we learn more, you might see something released from us in future Virtual Horsemen - Right Wing (P-51) - 2008... Virtual Ultimate Fighters - Lead (P-47) - 2020...
Pman Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 Let me just add on to what Rock said, due to licencing issues we will not be releasing any of our work at all. Although we hold distribution licences on most of what we have some of it is our exclusive use only therefore we wont be releasing our mod pack to the public, even as static for use in missions. I apologise for getting anyones hopes up, however this mod was only created for use with our aerobatic team and never intended for wider distribution. Our FB link is here: https://www.facebook.com/GWBHF If your quick you will see the work on the P-47 coming along nicely :D Pman
