Bucic, since you report tha ALchemy improves FPS I ll give it a try. If it doesn't on my system I 'll probably disable it since the lack of 3D sound isn't of much difference (I got 2.1 speakers and stereo headphones) in BS.

AFAIK ALchemy does not improve FPS. Creative X-fi sound cards with on-board 64 MB RAM do. Or might.

These dirt-cheap ones are more than enough to hear the differrence

I got your point! The truth is that once enabled the sound has more bass as Bucic reported(didn't see any other difference since I just run the game for a couple of minutes). I didn't see any difference in FPS (some ppl says ALchemy lowers FPS some others say thatit doesn't and that in specific games the FPS may increase depending on rest of the hardware). So I ll leave it enabled, a bit of bass more never heart anyone... other than my neighbors!

Fixes:

Enables the DirectSound3D game audio to be processed by your Sound Blaster audio device to deliver EAX effects, 3D audio spatialization, sample rate conversion and hardware audio mixing. Without this, most DirectSound3D games will be reduced to stereo output without any EAX effects.

Improves 3D audio processing for host-based Sound Blaster audio devices.

Alchemy badly screws up the sound in DCS for me. Basically, it seems like it completely removes the dynamic range of most sound effects, so that things far away sound exactly as loud as things very close. For example, I can hear the impact of every single cannon round as if it were right next to me, even if the shells are landing 1km away. Also, the engine whistling of helicopters is exactly as loud from 1km away as it is from 5m away. If I move my view past about 1km, then the noise cuts off abruptly.

However, it does fix the loud noise bug that you normally have to toggle outside views or open/close the cockpit door to fix.

I am running Windows 7, with an X-Fi XtremeGamer with the latest Creative drivers. The result has been the same with the just released version of Alchemy, and the previous version. I have ensured that SVM if off in my Creative control panel. In fact, I have tried turning every single setting in the Creative control panel on and off, to no effect.

I could test DCS BS + ALchemy for a very short period of time and it looks that you are talking about the same thing as I did in the beginning when I was referring to glitches, cracks... So the bug report would look like this:

Using Creative ALchemy removes range effects of many sound effects (e.g. projectiles hitting ground) and so they are as audible from 1 km away as they are from a couple of meters, including in-cockpit.

Soundcards: Creative Audigy and X-Fi series

Systems: Vista, Win 7, both 32 and 64 bit

If anyone is experiencing the same erratic sound system behavior on windows XP, then it means that the bug referres not only to ALchemy but to EAX in general.

Related bugs:

Without ALchemy - in-cockpit constant engine noise ; can be fixed by opening cockpit doors.

Ah, perfect, thanks for drafting the bug report :). BTW I should clarify I'm using W7 x64. I wouldn't be surprised if this is related to Creative's 64-bit drivers.

It's not. My test and Audacity recording has been made on Vista 32 bit.

I, and I bet ED staff too, would be grateful If you all comment anything related to problems with ALchemy+DCS BS in the Problems and bugs forum http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=48158
