SonofEil Posted August 30, 2018 Posted August 30, 2018 I just got my Odyssey today, went through the setup, Mixed Reality Portal is working fine. I started DCS on my desktop monitor and selected "Enable VR Headset" in the VR Settings tab. DCS restarts...right back to my desktop monitor. "Enable VR Headset" is still checked but I only have the Windows MR Portal 'apartment' visible in the headset. The closest I've come to success is getting my desktop to float in front of me in the MR Portal while DCS was running. What am I doing wrong!? Edit: this is all non Steam. i7 7700K @5.0, 1080Ti, 32GB DDR4, HMD Odyssey, TM WH, Crosswind Rudder...
nicka117 Posted August 30, 2018 Posted August 30, 2018 Are you running the latest beta update on DCS. That screwed all the VR stuff up.
SonofEil Posted August 30, 2018 Author Posted August 30, 2018 (edited) Yeah, Open Beta Aug 29 patch. So...VR doesn't work period? Looks like other people are using it. Edited August 30, 2018 by SonofEil i7 7700K @5.0, 1080Ti, 32GB DDR4, HMD Odyssey, TM WH, Crosswind Rudder...
dburne Posted August 30, 2018 Posted August 30, 2018 So far Open Beta seems to be working ok for me with Rift, with exception of game crashes when trying to make changes in controller menu. As far as flying seems to be fine for me. ED Team NineLine Posted August 31, 2018 ED Team Posted August 31, 2018 Is your windows up to date? I know until I brought it to the latest version I had some issues with Windows Mixed Reality. And as weird as it may sound, having Steam working right might be helpful as well, If you have room, download DCS and just try the free modules there to make sure it works, then go back to your full install. If you dont want to download DCS in Steam, just try any other Steam VR content. Make sure all other drivers and such are updated as well. If it continues to fail, post your logs and dxdiag file and I can keep trying to help. Also, the above notes about VR being messed up are mostly about Oculus Rift right now. backspace340 Posted August 31, 2018 Posted August 31, 2018 (edited) You need Steam VR and the Windows Mixed reality app for Steam VR installed before you can use the Odyssey in DCS (even if it's a standalone install!). Install Steam, install them both, run Steam VR and then start the game - then you'll have it working. So just to be clear, you need three things: 1. Install Steam 2. Install SteamVR 3. Install this: https://store.steampowered.com/app/719950/Windows_Mixed_Reality_for_SteamVR/ 4. Run SteamVR and then run DCS using your usual shortcut. Edited August 31, 2018 by backspace340
SonofEil Posted August 31, 2018 Author Posted August 31, 2018 Holy shit backspace! That did it!! I was skeptical as hell and I still for the life of me can't figure out why I need three(!) separate Steam apps in order to run this Steam-less headset and DCS install but it's working now. That was fifteen straight hours of misery and frustration followed by one of the most mind blowing things I've ever experienced. I've sat and flown in dozens of real life cockpits but for some reason when the odyssey screens opened up with me inside the virtual hornet it literally took my breath away. Wholly different experience vs. flying with a monitor. Wow! Thanks for the help everyone! i7 7700K @5.0, 1080Ti, 32GB DDR4, HMD Odyssey, TM WH, Crosswind Rudder...
