dogfighting now

I just flew around for 1.5 hours looking for dots, not firing my guns and not being shot at except for flak.

If anyone wants some quicker paced combat I am hosting right now.:thumbup:

Spoting issue is azaingly bad. It is true, that I can almost never find anyone, except for my close 6.

Last time I saw a guy in front of me, he dove into the woods... yeah and flew amongst trees and never saw him again.

A new server is up and running.... testing .... for dogfight.

Exactly. Once servers removed fog-of-war from the F10 map the spotting issue became chronic. As my 6 year-old observed when I was trying to pursue a 190, "he can disappear, Dad!"

I'll put the map up again later today. I designed it so you pretty much have guaranteed combat every sortie.

HDR WARM + 8Q AA @ 1920x1200 helps me a bit.

I'm going to put the map up right now. Hopefully I'll have some free time to fly soon, but it's there for those of you who want more enemy contact. Just look for "Gavagai's WW2 Dogfight."

P.S. I have another map I can add soon, but some changes I am considering:

1. Move the air-starts a little further apart.

2. Reduce the number of red AI. Blue usually gets crushed so a little numbers balancing would seem OK.

Hosting again today (hurray for vacation days!).

I'm going to be running DavidRed's mod for my personal use. I haven't enabled any kind of runtime check, but please let me know if you have a problem joining my server. We are a small group, and I think the chance of someone cheating is so remote that there is no need to make it more difficult for us to fly.

I jumped on your server yesterday. Is there an issue with controls not working online?

First issue was another server were my flaps would not retract after I accidentally put them into landing configuration. I had to exit and come back in. I then saw your server and decided to give it a go.

I lost my rudder control on yours for no reason ending up in a fireball by the runway!! :(

By that time, I took the wife downtown for lunch instead.

Gosh, I have no idea. :( For others it works just fine.

Happened for me sometime ago that some fucntions (like radios buttons) ceased to work while was online. Only fix was to rejoin the server.

Can't connect. :cry: The ping time is high and unstable.

Too bad, we need more blue pilots. I got my ass handed to me again and again 1vs1 against DavidRed's 109.

There are not any tactics in that matchup. It's just try not to die for as long as possible!:music_whistling:

I had a great time at your server today!

Finally I am able to see other aircraft. I know we're somehow cheating, but truth is that DCS really lacks better LOD and look fwd for EDGE to make things better in this area.

Meanwhile I will be at your server whenever possible.

Good setup especially for the new guys. Hopefully the better players help them out so they don't give up. I'm sure Davidred will hand out tips between blowing off people's wings if they ask for help. Wasn't there a mod to make the icons just a small dot and erase all the other information? It's pretty difficult to see what the target is doing from further than a few hundred yards with all that info in the way.

Best tip for fighting a 109 1vs1 with the P-51 is not to engage at all, but that is no fun. Unless I break a wingtip it's the same scenario when I fly the 109 against the P-51. We're in a scenario right now where there is really no point in duelling allied vs axis because axis should win every time given two equal pilots.

Anyway, I agree that the icons get in the way of seeing the enemy aircraft. Maybe I'll just go back to allowing f5 view... DCS is just so much worse than other sims for seeing aircraft, but so much better in other ways.

Check this thread out about modifying the icons. I don't know how it works on the server level but I'm sure someone can help you out.
