What do you think guys about Leap Motion?

I think it is promising technology especially for use in virtual cockpit.

Even now without some special software implementation you could use it true mouse app and use your hands to interact with instruments instead of mouse.

Have you tried to use one?

No but I'm tracking this piece of hardware for about last year.

Price is around 80$ so it is not that expensive. There is lot of other piece of hardware for sims which is offer significantly less usage and immersion in game then this.

There is open source SDK for it so we already can use it.

Here is example using LM in CoD with LM mouse app.

In DCS we need less moves for interact in cockpit.

Point is with VR reducing problems with keyboard, you can not see it and you are using intuitively your virtual cockpit naturaly with your hands like you are inside.

For those who still want to use screens it will be again less expensive solution because you don't need to buy or bzild additional instruments or switches because you will use one in game so better spend this mony on 50"4KTV and you will have perfect cockpit and one more big thing. If you build fisical cockpit it is always dedicated to one plane with virtual cockpit on screen this is not case.

I just whant your reactions and what do you think about such technology from DCS world point of view?

Read some reviews on this forum or even on the Leap Motion forums. It's truly crap. It doesn't work, we need to wait for some other device. I seem to remember that VEAO has something up their sleeve regarding this (although I may be mistaken)

MSI M5 z270 | Intel i5 7600k (OC) 4.8GHz | MSI GTX1080ti Gaming X 11Gb | 500gb Samsung 970 Evo NVME M.2 (DCS World) | 500gb Samsung 850 Evo SSD (OS and Apps) | 32Gb 2400MHz DDR4 - Crucial Ballistix | Be Quiet Silent Loop 240mm | NZXT H440 case |

Thrustmaster Warthog - 47608 with Virpil Mongoose joystick base | MFG Crosswinds - 1241 | Westland Lynx collective with Bodnar X board | Pilot's seat from ZH832 Merlin | JetSeat | Oculus Rift S | Windows 10 | VA |

I have it. It currently does *not* have the granularity required for flight sim. It's OK if you're swatting a ball, or doing coarse movements. But anything beyond that, it's of no use.

I have it also, since it's release, and I agree.

OK so it is from DCS user perspective not that good for use similar like DK1 with bad resolution and huge screen door effect.

But concept is promising so I will continuing to track this or similar technology until they reach quality level needed for DCS.

Good to know that information from first hand real DCS user.

I wouldn’t lose hope guys. I think the half-moon and other hand, wand like devices are only temporary solutions for the 3D input. If you analyse acquisitions made by Oculus in the past for example Nimble (I would call them Leap Motion V2.0) and most recent Pebble Interfaces with amazing optic based algorithms you would see that there must be something good brewing in the Oculuses R&D department.

Edit: It's pretty amazing how Pebble Interfaces is dealing with the occlusion issue.

I'm kinda hoping for HoloLens as well. That would be the PERFECT solution for simpit builders. Have a generic pit that hololens will let you portray the correct cockpit and track your hand movement!

Or that magical elephant in your hand/google funded augmented reality product-if-it-ever-comes-out-thingy :)
