goosemilk
I've been looking or solutions to running DCS 1.5 on a Windows 2012 R2 virtual server that is crashing with dx11backend.dll errors. I also tried Windows 2008 but no luck. It seem like one out of 100 tries I get to the menu screen. I can run 1.2 with no problems. I can also run DCS 1.5 from a headless system from my house with no problems (but that system has a Geforce video card). Any particular settings I need/should be aware of when using a Windows 2012 R2 server? I also tried setting everything to lowest settings on the home pc and copy those settings over to the virtual server. I have the following settings in the autoexec.cfg. options.graphics.render3D = false

goosemilk
Thanks for the fast response!! Xen virtual host. (VPS rental from NFOServer) Windows 2012 R2 Quad CPU cores 6144 MB of RAM 400 GB of storage DX11.2 drivers No dedicated video card but it runs DCS 1.2 with no issues, when I set render3D to false. I was thinking of trying Windows 2012 (Non-R2) being that one has DX11.
HiJack
It works fine on 2012R2 for me. Have you installed Visual C++ Redistributable 2013? Any other year will not work.

goosemilk
What visualization software are you using? Is the server hosted in a data center? It is a Virtual Private Server I am renting from NFOServer.com. (I normally use it for ARMA 3, IL-2, and rise of Flight) Not sure what you mean bu visualization software. If you are talking how I access the server normally it is via TightVNC.
sslechta
Goose, we've had the same issues trying to get Virtual Aerobatics going again too on 1.5. Works well on 1.2. I'll try other remote tools as was suggested above but no luck getting it going. We've closely followed the posts on C++, DirectX, memory leak issues and are still having a hard time. EDIT: TightVNC made no difference. All 8 processors max out at nearly 100% during splash screen load while memory is barely utilized. HiJack
All 8 processors max out at nearly 100% during splash screen load while memory is barely utilized. That is because you have not set the Render3D - Disabled properly. Search for "autoexec.cfg render3d" in this forum  options.graphics.render3D = false

sslechta
Hijack, So I've tried to put the AutoExec.cfg in these locations: - C:\Program Files\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World OpenBeta\Config - C:\Users\[WinUser]\Saved Games\DCS.openbeta\Config per the graphics_readme.txt I've also tried to put it in this file: - C:\Program Files\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World OpenBeta\Config\graphics.lua Regardless of where I've tried to locate the AutoExec I'm still getting DX11 errors in the logs (attached). Similar to Goosemilk, we're on Server 2012, but have 32 Gig RAM and newer system specs. Also on C++ 2013 and have run repair on that between app crashes. Also have the .NET stuff activated in Server Manager. goosemilk
I wasn't able to login, DCS would refresh the screen then crash. DX11Backend issue returned. I was able to get back to the DCS login after a DX reinstall from the dist folder, but when I clicked to log in it start going back and forth to splash screen and login screen until I had to finally close it out. Could be something related to the splash/login screen and the way my server is configure from NFOServers. Below seem to only error that is repeated: 00072.471 ERROR DX11BACKEND: Shader "enlight/sun.fx:DIRECTX11=true;" failed to create. sFalcon
I dont know if you guys have the same problem as i had... My DCS 1.5 crashed after the splash screen or it just stayed on black screen.. (with a Sapphire HD5450 DX11 card) Then i searched on google and found a trick to solve the problem, You can increase the GPU processing time by adjusting the Timeout Detection and Recovery registry value. However, you should do it carefully, because any mistake can cause conflicts. Here is how: 1. Exit all Windows based programs. 2. Go to Start and type regedit in the Search box. In the results, double-click regedit.exe. 3. Browse to and then click "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\GraphicsDrivers". 4. Click New in the Edit menu list. From the drop-down menu, select DWORD (32-bit) value. Then type TdrDelay as the Name and click Enter. Double-click TdrDelay, add 8 for the Value data and click OK. After all these done, reboot your computer. Edited November 17, 2015 by sFalcon 1 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] _______ sFalcon.
sslechta
Hey Falcon. In our cases we are using servers. I'm not sure if that registry value would still be valid or not on server 2012. What OS are you using? sslechta
Falcon, thanks for the info. The key entry extended the time the splash screen stays on and kept it from crashing but it just hangs there indefinitely now. I get a real brief main menu then the splash screen comes back and stays on. During the whole process all the CPUs are just maxed out. I may play around tomorrow with lowering that registry value down to 5 seconds and see if that helps at all. Hopefully ED is looking at the DX11 issues. goosemilk
That is what I get when I don't get the immediate DX11backend crash. Goes to menu, back to splash, to menu, back to splash and usually stays on splash screen.
