What is the maximum elevation scan angle of the radar?

How many degrees of total angle is the value 4 bars ??

< -..°/+..° =...° ?

Do not confuses the mechanical elevation of the radar with the vertical electronic angle of research express in "bar"..

IIRC 1 bar = ~3° and 4 bars = ~8°

L0op8ack has said 4 bar = 10° elevation, but from the context of his answer (fewer bars --> greater angles) - I think he thought the question re:elevation, was in respect of azimuth.

If I interpreted this correctly, and bar width is 3 degrees, that would give around 8 degrees of coverage in rws 4 bars?

60 degrees 2 bar

25 degrees 3 bar

10 degrees 4 bar

There was also this fix after someone asked about the small amount of scan elevation and Deka said the bar spacing calculation was off and is fixed for next patch “tweak AA radar INTC bar spacing: RWS: 1.3 degrees, TWS: 1.6 degrees”

Yes there is a problems with this answer

TL;DR:

For info a quick test in open beta shows improved radar elevation with TWS 3 bar = approx 6 to 7°.

Detail

AA radar INTC bar spacing: RWS: 1.3 degrees, TWS: 1.6 degrees

Quick in game check of radar TDC cursor, OB 2.5.5.41256

• TWS 3 bar, 22 NM --> 19-35,000 ft = 16,000 ft

Little math

• arcsin (16,000 / 22*6,076) = arcsin(16,000 / 133,672) = arcsin (0.120) = 6.875° = ~7°

• TWS 3 bar = 3° + (2*1.6°) = 6.2°

So TWS 3 bar = approx 6 to 7°

Not possible ..

A modern radar (2010) cannot have such a small angle aperture..

Perhaps this will help understand his answer.

JF-17 RWS

Eh3GeEY.jpg

• 1, 2 or 4 bar scan patterns

• Azimuth +/- 15°, 30° or 60°

• bar spacing 1.3°

• beam width 3° (estimate/guess)

Scan patterns can be adjusted up or down to cover differing altitude bands.

The radar’s mechanical elevation limit is +/- 30°

Measured in game and checked in JF-17 sensor .lua the radar elevation limit is +/- 30°.

AFAIK there isn't an official source for the KLJ-7 radar's elevation limit.

Plz don't mess the bar elevation coverage with the radar gimbal limits.

Even the F-18 only has a 3.3°+1.3°×3=7.2° 4bar elevation coverage
