Panzertard Posted August 10, 2009 Posted August 10, 2009 (edited) Hello gents - just a bit of clarification regarding the "Battlefield" mission you find on my server. I've gotten a couple of PM's lately because of this one. As of now it's WIP (Work In Progress). Quite a timeconsuming one too. :) NOTE: While WIP - and me learning how you guys deal with the threats, External View's are on. Intention: - The create scenario where Players can have fun and be active for 4-8 hours. - Challenging, it's not meant to be "completed" once you have flown it 5-10 times. I hope to make it much more interesting for many more flights. - Challenging for veteran pilots. (With a Wingman) - PvP catered for. - A place where *I* would love to fly, over and over again - even after I've learned quite alot of the unit positions. ;) - A place where it is possible for fresh pilots to have some fun too. - Not an arcade. This mean I have to break some unwritten rules regarding what many consider as "fair". Effects of my decision: - Reality, it's not out the door - but I do have to "cheat" a bit to get the true "danger-omfg-lawl" effect. - The real Ka-50 would not have been allowed to fly in that scenario. - Yes, some units may have deserted and ran off into the forest. (Shoot the b**** if you spot them). - Lots of units -> mayhem on FPS, altough trying to optimize. (See this hint) - Long(er) flights - but bonus if you SURVIVE - land / repair / rearm / refuel at FARP close to FEBA. - Survivability is improved with a Wingman, Voice COM (Teamspeak) and good Situation Awareness. Nothing guaranteed though. - You'll die die die ... quite often ;) New of 30. August 2009; A final update - mission code released. I'm not able to maintain the code anymore - it's just too big, too much debugging to take care of - which takes just too much of my precious time ;) So instead I release what I've done so far - use whatever bit's & snippets you want from the mission. A couple of notes regarding the latest version (30. August 2009); - The RADAR SAMS may be too deadly - may need to be removed / moved / tuned down. - The FPS isnt too bad, but there may be more tuning to do. - The triggers for the SAM destruction is not 100% complete, it may be too hard for a few pilots to be able to reach the goal. More tuning necesarry. - The flights coming in as a result of the triggers may not survive for long - or target the correct targets yet. More tuning is necesarry. - The new Blue FARP shorten the route for BLUE side a bit, bit it's still just a basic FARP - not much to see there. - The "old" DIY Blue FARP may be a better choice to span BLUE pilots, but it's quite close to the FEBA. - It's a nightmare to debug / update with new content ;) Latest Updates: 0.40 - To allow for more pilots, FARPS added. (Aw gawd, I hate creating FARP's) - Added more CLIENT flights. - Note, "winning conditions" not complete yet - still trying to learn those AI pilots to attack properly. 0.39 (Phew .. finally weekend again) - B-Patriot added as goal. - B-Hawk added as Goal - B-ACME DIY-FARP as Goal - R-Depot added as goal. - R-Armor Chemitok as goal - R-Rum Justice FARP as goal - Misc AI-flights added as bonus for taking out the goals. - Winning conditions test trigger added using the flags. Added a few flights to illustrate win, need to check FPS when the units attack. 0.38 (1.0.1) - Converted and tested on 1.0.1 - Testing commenced with Externals Off. - Removed some more infantry for FPS improvement. - Added some responses to the RED side loosing units. - Added some (random) responses to the BLUE side loosing units. 0.34 - Added RU / GE / ES briefings - Briefing images for Red + BlueBattlefield-day2-040me.rarbf-day2-utf8-briefings.txtbf-day2-version-history.txt Edited August 29, 2009 by Panzertard The mind is like a parachute. 159th_Viper Posted August 10, 2009 Posted August 10, 2009 Aye Panzer Would appreciate a Heads-Up once the patch is installed. Due to Multiplayer incompatibility with 1.0, would be just my luck to Blow a Fuse if I hop onto your server with 1.01........ Oh Yeah - any chance of ML's as a default load for Weasel Flight? 159th_Viper Posted August 11, 2009 Posted August 11, 2009 This is a support the mission-creator can choose in the mission options. Panzertard Posted August 11, 2009 Author Posted August 11, 2009 I am getting Audible Missile Warnings upon SAM launch.......Intentional? SG and me had some lawl moments yesterday when there were some 12 missiles airborne  It's been disabled within the ME - but set to be optional for the client. Perhaps some of the server settings override whats set in the mission. Still, it seems to be enforced somehow - I will have to look into it again. The mind is like a parachute. Panzertard Posted August 11, 2009 Author Posted August 11, 2009 - "Missile warnings" have been successfully routed to devnul. Altough I had to fix it by enforcing "radio assist = false" for the mission. Allowing it to be optional (and turned off on the server options + my ME editor client (options)) wasnt enough - it was somehow mysteriously "enforced / enabled" for all clients regardless of the "optional / let client decide" setting. - External Views = Off. - Map = Off The mind is like a parachute. 159th_Falcon Posted August 11, 2009 Posted August 11, 2009 Imo, we should be able to see just our own heli.. Sadly enough thats not an good idea, this is because you can zoom in/out quite alot and use this to spot enemy units postitions and terrain cover while in auto hover at a known safe spot. Panzer, you made one heck of a mission, love flying it though landing whitout external views will be challenging the 1st few times. Thanks, bud - it'll be *very* interesting, especially regarding the Radar SAM's there. We might see some tuning if it gets too hard ... but let's wait and see. ;) 1 The mind is like a parachute. 159th_Falcon Posted August 12, 2009 Posted August 12, 2009 Hi again, just did a quick test on the new patch and it rocks, my fps doubled and the KA-50 seems to fly alot smoother/responsive now. Not sure if this is due to the increase for fps or due to an partial rewrite of the KA-50's flight model. As for the landing on the FARP (panzer asked me in game but didnt try yet) its not to hard from cockpit only view, as long as you take your time and get some decent orientation points. i landed nearly in the middle of the H the 1st try. Though, after killing a group of AA and 2 tanks succesfully i whent on to check behind another hill top for treaths. They where behind it but a long way, got 2 Sams coming my way and crashed due to vortex ring stall..... damn that's an bastard to get out from. Anyways, great update and Panzer made a great Battlefield for many hours of fun. 1 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] The keeper of all mathematical knowledge and the oracle of flight modeling.:)
STP Dragon Posted August 12, 2009 Posted August 12, 2009 Topic "External Views": I like the external views. This Game looks so awesome so I want to see and look arround. It is volunary!! Nobody force you to use external views. If you want to play the game realistic so don't use it! If people use external views to search enemys... well... let them.... Anyhow they have to kill the enemy and although they can be shot! In my point of view external views are NO cheating. It can give you the knowledge here enemys are, yes... but we all are here to have fun. If you think the mission is so hard for you so you have to use external views... why not? It is volunary! In my missions the external views are always ON. Kurtz Posted August 12, 2009 Posted August 12, 2009 I tend to leave externals on for allies as well. Its not so much for my flying, although sometimes ill review my battle damage to my heli now and then. I find that on our server we often get people that just like to spectate the battle. Sometimes it relaxing sitting around with a coffee or beer watching the battle play out. If it was a clan match or something they would have to be off, but other than that it just adds to the fun :)

Panzertard Posted August 12, 2009 Author Posted August 12, 2009 External Views, yes - it's a difficult topic. Dragon and Kurtz, I also have much of the same opinon as you guys - but it's quite had to find a reasonable neutral ground between what you said and PvP (where externals obviously can be used to cheat). I dont mind it being easier to be cautios - the place is dangrous enough as it is. This may illustrate an episode last night (names anon to protect the pilots): "pilot4"(ID=4) wrote: "uhhh wtf just happened" "pilot4"(ID=4) wrote: "we just came over a hill and instantly died" "pilot8"(ID=8) wrote: "blade strike?" So the whole external view is tighly linked to difficulty as well as how to enjoy the game (or just spectate and have a scotch like kurtz ;)) But I appreciate the inputs on the matter - keep it coming - hopefully after you have tested and have flown there ;) The mind is like a parachute. Panzertard Posted August 12, 2009 Author Posted August 12, 2009 Probably one of those ambushes aye, which includes tanks, sams, and vulcans/shilkaes (depending on which side you are on). Tanks seems to give us that "insta death" effect if you're too slow. Abraams seems to be *much* more efficient at hitting you even at moderate speeds now .. deadly ;) The mind is like a parachute. dawestsides Posted August 12, 2009 Posted August 12, 2009 (edited) I selected the blue team "surprise" helo and found myself starting at 6450m with no fuel... Very nice view overthere before total desintegration...lol Otherwise,my fps were good, got shot down twice by a teammate (unknown) to whom I was teaching DL. As previously mentioned, the way along WP2&3 is hazardous. A great "recce" tactical map that requires a lot of pro-action,but more enjoyable with people able to use datalink, teamwork benefits aware.
