Dusty Rhodes Posted December 15, 2004 Posted December 15, 2004 Check THIS thread out for details. Works great and gives life to LOMAC. SUBS17 Posted December 15, 2004 Posted December 15, 2004 Yeah, sounds good. Sort of goes hand in hand with zzzspaces v7.0 sound pack which is the best so far. What would be the ultimate though is to mess with the ai sound responses and to edit those into something like Janes F-15 or topgun. Then we would be talking about what it should sound like. So far we have sort of animated responses to situations that are very basic. If we had sound files like in Topgun it would be awesome. cheers Subs [sIGPIC] [/sIGPIC]
Whisper Posted December 15, 2004 Posted December 15, 2004 Comms is one of the very weak point of Lock-On, IMHO. There is plenty of room for improvement there. Dusty Rhodes Posted December 15, 2004 Author Posted December 15, 2004 Try what I did. It will increase the immersion a lot and add some life to the sim. DarkStar Posted December 15, 2004 Posted December 15, 2004 I agree Whisper. In my opinion the comms engine should be re-written or re-worked as a third-priority (behind Dynamic campaign and a european airplane *cough cough* :D)
Kenan Posted December 16, 2004 Posted December 16, 2004 I found real russian radio chat sounds recorded in Moscow, airport Sheremetjevo by this guy: http://www.x-plane.org/registry/10_X-Plane_Media5.shtml He made lots of samples and put them in the RAR archive. I used CEP 2.0 to convert those samples into one WAV file and inserted it in the Effects/CockpitSystems.wav. Now the sounds will play in a loop as soon as you start your engines (about 7:30 minutes of it). The sounds themselves are very 'real' and imho interesting. There are some downfalls like, when switching to external view and getting back to cockpit they reset..but it doesn't bother me. Also as soon as you shut down the engines, radio chatter goes quiet. Now, I don't know if anyone here is interested in having this..if yes, I could upload it somewhere (though myself don't have a server). It's 20 megs wav file (uncompressed). SUBS17 Posted December 16, 2004 Posted December 16, 2004 It would be cool to have Russian background chatter from ai aircraft and the tower when you fly Russian Aircraft and when you fly NATO aircraft likewise in English. But to have banter between pilots and WSO would also be cool. [sIGPIC] [/sIGPIC]
D-Scythe Posted December 16, 2004 Posted December 16, 2004 At the very least, it would be nice to have a "Splash One" call when you kill something, or even "Fox" when you shoot a missile. Currently, the player's jet is completely *dead* to say the least. And there is absolutely no communication between flights of aircraft. I mean, anything would be nice to know that something like your escort is engaging the enemy - even subtitles. Ideally, ED should select a few individuals from the community who are willing to donate their time and voice for free, just like the 3D models, so that the extra cost would be minimalized. Then a comms system like Janes F/A-18 would be worked on. Ideally, of course ;)
Whisper Posted December 16, 2004 Posted December 16, 2004 Then a comms system like Janes F/A-18 would be worked on.I re-launched JFA-18 last night. I had forgotten how immersive the radio environnement was! Awesome. Each part of a flight is commented like IRL ("arcing" at the end of the carrier take-off pattern, sequencing of ground attacks "target in sight, in hot!", etc...). Background chatter is great, but a poor replacement. In LO, your wingmen do not talk enough, the tower knows like 6 sentences, AWACS is perhaps the more voicy, and your pilot never say a thing  Side effect, more AI commands should be created, meaning there is probably more than just comms to tweak, ie a bigger task than what we think about Whisper of old OFP & C6 forums, now Kalbuth. SUBS17 Posted December 18, 2004 Posted December 18, 2004 Yeah they should get zzzspace, hes done some good work with soundpacks. [sIGPIC] [/sIGPIC]
Drakkhen Posted December 18, 2004 Posted December 18, 2004 Thanks to Dusty Rhode's wav site, I did this replacement for <LockOn>\Sounds\Effects\CockpitSystems.wav file (4.94Mo). If someone is kind enough to make it a Loman zip, that would be great. ...and if someone can let me know where I could find russian and german radio traffic of the same kind, it would be even greater. Edit: You'll notice CockpitSystems play speed changes according to thrust and you'll have some weird voices pitching high or low, maybe mixing radio sounds with a more "stable" wav would be better.
