I've been tweaking around with Flaming Cliffs 2 now and can't seem to get the ground textures looking anything like the screenshots I see in other peoples posts.

It's got me puzzled, It looks like this from a default install before I tweak anything.

I've read all the tweak threads and documents here but nothing works.

Anyone have any pointers ? I know this card uses legacy drivers , so updating them is not possible.

Wow yes, that does look damn awful :helpsmilie:

What are your current settings in your options menu for FC2?

Also, what videocard are you using and what settings (anti aliasing, anisotropic filtering, MIPMAP settings etc) do you have applied for it in your cards control panel?

Ah my bad I forgot to post this, ..I'm running this on a lower end system , the GFX card is an old ATI X850.

All settings or off or application controlled, Mipmap is set to quality.

This card uses legacy drivers , maybe that's the issue. ?

Menu in game is unchanged from default install.

graphics.cfg

options.lua

Ah yes i remember the X850, i had an X800 back in the day, was a very nice card :)

Well, to me it looks like you need to check your options menu then, if you can could you post up a screenshot of it?

edit: heres my settings, i think the one you'll need to look at is the textures setting, if it's on low or medium it'll reduce the quality of the terrain

Everything's set to "High" using the "High" preset, it still looks the same.

I've attached my configs to my previous post....maybe the problem lies in there. I backed up my graphics.cfg before editing, but not my options.lua.

I restored the graphics.cfg, could be a problem with the otions.lua ?...dunno, but something is really off.

thanks for looking.

Hmm ok, well both your graphics.cfg and options.lua look fine...just a thought, what operating system are you using and how much system RAM do you have?

Seems your terrain texture doesn't load entirely, perhaps corrupted or incomplete file. Have you tried some of the user created terrain textures?

No I'm just working from the default install.

Are you sure you are running fc2? Try making sure your not running lomac by mistake.

....are you ****ing serious ?...please tell me how I could accidentally not be running a piece of software that I just bought, and mistake it for something else ?

You know what.......you might be right.....that's my problem...the reason I can't get the ground textures to look right is because it's Quake fu***ing 4...

dude ...in future.....ignore my posts...you have nothing constructive to say.

@Vekkinho

Why would I need to try user created terrain textures?

Ok i have something for you to try: you see the link for the /3GB switch for Windows XP 32bit under my sig?

Click on it and have a read of how it works and try to have a go with it, it *might* be one of the causes for your low detailed terrain.....reason i say this is from personal experience with 32bit OS's, memory starts to run low and all sorts of crap starts to go wrong with textures.

Thx Mustang but no change, graphics are still the same, maybe this card is simply not good enough for FC2.

That might be it strike beagle sorry to say, we've just about exhausted every avenue here....your card is 256mb right? AGP or PCI-E?

anisotropic filtering set to OFF or app controlled in GC settings?

just had a similar issue with terrain and forced anisotropic ON.

that solved my problems..

Yup , AGP + 256 MB, and I'm forced to use legacy drivers.

Even lagacy drivers should be enough for FC2.

Ok, how familiar are you with your motherboard BIOS? Have you tried adjusting your like AGP Aperture setting, it might be set too low.

Strange problem, it looks a bit what some people have complained about in DCS:A10 as well.

- I would suggest looking more closely at the grphics drivers, perhaps a driver clean sweep? And a reinstall of the drivers.

- Perhaps if you install it yet again, (without any mods) to the root of the hardrive, C:\Games\FC2

This way we can eliminate any problems with the old install & corrupt settings.

The mind is like a parachute. It only works when it's open | The important thing is not to stop questioning

Well I haven't been there for a while, but yup I've tried 128 and 256.

Ok, I've stripped all traces of FC2 from my PC & registry.

Reinstalled ATI card drivers after a clean sweep with driver cleaner.

Reinstalled DirectX.

Defragged Hard Drive.

Re-installed FC2 to C:\Games\FC2

Applied 1.2.1 update....

and........

:D I see ground textures. I'm not sure what it was, but all is well now.

Thanks for the help guys...

Hmmmm, I seem to have found my problem....

I've started to tweak my graphics again (heavy tweaking required for x850).

Once again I lost the ground textures

In options.lua when I change...

["haze"] = 1,

to....

["haze"] = 0,

I lose the ground textures....is this right?

Posted

It could be, i recall in the older Lockon series there was a setting called "Advanced Haze" that enabled or disabled lots of effects, especially the landing gear light projection....that setting is no longer available in FC2 options screen but remains there hidden as that "Haze" option it seems.

Anyways, good job finding the problem :)
