Ok, so I have found about DCS about month ago. I had some dream the night before about flying and the next day I had an itch to find some simulator game. I'm not the type or was who is for flying sims. The last sim ish games I have played were the LHX and F-19 on black&white monitor and 286 processor with 2MB of RAM back in 1990.

So I was experimenting with the SU-27 in DCS World for about two days when I have found out that I love it. Just taking off and the start up procedure hooked me up. I have borrowed a Joystick from my friend who does not need it any more and played even more.

Then the Steam sale happened two days ago and I have bought the Black shark 2. I have downloaded the training mission from the forums here (they are really great) and man, how should I say this... THIS game gives me so much good feelings in so many ways. I feel so much accomplishment for the tiniest things I learn with the chopper. I was able to start up and fly and mainly land today without crashing and do a stable hower without autopilot.

It feels great, it plays great, it's GREAT game.

Thank you so much for this.

And I cannot even grasp how good it will feel when I will get some HOTAS and Oculus rift if I will have enough money.

Check out TrackIR if you want some cool immersion and easy viewing of the virtual cockpit. Black Shark is a great module =)

I have, I really would like to have it, but it's so overpriced I cannot even think about it. I would rather wait for the Oculus.

I have tried to make Facetracknoir to work and it is somehow acceptable, but as I'm playing mainly during the night in a room where my wife is actually sleeping while I'm playing, I cannot use it as it needs a bit of light to work at acceptable level.

But I do understand why people buy it, it's a next level in the sim and it's essential when you want to play with HOTAS only.

Do, or do not, there is no try.

I don't want to burst your bubble, but I wouldn't get to excited about Oculus Rift just yet. I got the Dev Kit because alot of people were raving about how good it was. I found the immersion to be very good, but the graphics were nothing more then a big blur. Imagine walking around without glasses on if you wear them and you'll get the idea. I know they have upped the Res on the Oculus HD kit, but from what I have read it is still a blur and only the colors are brighter. I don't think it will be that cool in flight Sims because of the blur at distance, but they may make me eat my words. Lets I hope they do make me eat my words and create something fantastic.

Well if that is true, then I will eventually buy the trackir but I will wait for the final version of Oculus and then decide.

And to ask you something, the blur is caused by the small resolution, or by the optics in the device? I do understand that high resolution is good for spotting targets at long distances if you want to do so by looking from the cockpit.

I'm really new in this game I have only destroyed targets in training mission so far. :)

Or check out FreeTrack - you have to make yourself a silly hat with 3 reflective points it can track but it works with every 10$ cheap webcam with IR diodes (a4tech pk-333mb for example) and once you have it setup it works like charm ... for free ... I've been using it for couple of years now with DCS and got no problems.

I was trying the freetrack too but it was crashing each time when i wanted to start the tracking. I would like to see the silly hat though :) The webcam with ir dioedes is a good idea and its cheap too!

Okay, try this:

- DCS A10C

- Track IR

- Joystick

- Throttles

- rudder pedals

Jump online, fly through fighter-infested airspace, dodge AAA and SAMs, place a Maverick squarely on the target....get back to your airbase in one piece.

Thats bliss right there.

I believe the blur is caused by the resolution. Just don't be fooled into thinking everything will be clear like you see on your computer monitor because it's not like that at all. Take a look at the image I uploaded because this is the difference between the 720p & the 1080p. Immersion wise it really does put you in the game and hopefully the Oculus HD, will be much better then the first Dev Kit. I also think they have to sort the motion sickness out good and proper, but I believe they have done that now. I do not get any sickness in cars or on boats, but man did I want to throw up after 20 minutes with this on my head.

For the time being I have ordered a webcam with nightvision and I will try to make it work with facetracknoir app.

The webcam was really cheap, about 10 euros only...

But I have question to those who use the app, is the virtual joypad driver needed for the application to work? Thank you.

lol worth it mate. If you're intending to purchase a HOTAS joystick, wait for the Saitek X55 - its pretty much modelled on the A10C stick and throttle.

From what I have read, it does not have two stage trigger. I don't know if that is true but if yes, then it could be better to buy the x-52pro for A-10C.

I'm glad you're enjoying the sim! It has hooked me for life, no doubt about that. It's basically everything I look for in a simulation (especially when EDGE is released.) Wait until you get to try the other modules as well, each one is a whole game on it's own, and it's a pleasure learning all of them.

As for the Rift comments, the blurriness is because of high persistence, not the resolution. Oculus has already figured this problem out in the Crystal Cove prototype. Resolution will not be an issue as already stated many times by the Oculus team. The mobile industry is driving the price of small LED and OLED screens down further and further, we'll be fine on that front. The rift, at least for flight sims, will be a must have when the consumer version is released. :joystick:

Ok, then there is other thing to solve with Oculus. I am using glasses as I do not see well at long distances.

From what I have read, the screen is made to appear far away from you with the optics. What I'm afraid of is that I will have to use glasses to be able to focus properly, but I really do not want to have glasses on with oculus at the same time.

true but TBH I've never used the 2nd stage of the trigger. I have the X52 (not pro) and use the 1st stage to fire the cannon whilst I use the #2 button to drop all other ordnance = no need for the 2nd stage.

I find the X52 doesn't have enough buttons though to correctly map everything for the A10C.

I absolutely can relate to both of this!

Next on your list should definitely be the TrackIR. First I thought: "oh come on, for a game? moving your head around with eyes fixated on the same area (screen)... as if that's gonna make any sense!" I stand corrected though. The immersion you get by being able to freely look around the cockpit and outside is amazing.

My humble rig: Windows 10 pro 64bit; i7-6700k on Gigabyte Z170X G7; 32GB; MSI 980ti Twin Frozr; 512GB Samsung 950 Pro (NVMe/PCIe x4); 1TB Samsung 850 Pro; Komplete Audio 6; TrackIR 5 Pro;

DCS 2.5 with almost all modules; favourites: Shark, Mi-8, Harrier, Viggen, Mirage, Hornet

The blurriness is also caused by the resolution. What you describe helps, but it doesn't eradicate the blurriness. They upped the Resolution to try to get rid of the blurriness and untill they have something like a 4k screen they will have difficulty getting rid of it. OP read this link for better understanding of the Oculus Rift.

With the A-10C? How do you engage PAC?

Personally I wouldn't be buying a HOTAS without a 2 stage, but I there is work abounds I suppose.

I just looked at some images of the Saitek x55 and it looks nothing like the A10C throttle? Am I looking at the wrong image or something?

Nah that's the right one. I don't see the resemblance with the throttle quadrant but the stick looks like it was modeled after the A-10C or F-16. I would personally save my money and go with the TM Warthog even though it costs quite a bit more. Saitek products are always kind of flaky.
