SkateZilla Posted February 18, 2014 Posted February 18, 2014 Well iRacing was supposed to be a training tool for drivers when it was first brought about... but that has evolved a lot as well :) iRacing isnt entertainment, unless you listen to what is said on the voice comms after someone wrecks. No AI meaning every driver in the field with you is another living breathing person. the Driver rules are very strict, (and you can face bans for violating them), the pricing is pretty steep (15/month 100/yr etc for just the membership and starter pak, then Another $10-15 for each additional track/car after that.), the learning curve from the starter cars to the premier series cars is very steep, I know at least 100 people that i tried to get to come to iRacing from console racing games (Forza/GranTurismo), that have joined and quit in the last 60 days alone because they had assumptions that it was a game, when it isnt, and it was simply put, to hard for them to learn. Luzifer Posted February 18, 2014 Posted February 18, 2014 I dont see anything saying that a simulator cant be entertainment... or be used for entertainment purposes. The fact that the A-10C has roots in an actual military simulation, I think helps push it towards the definition of simulation. The point is, it doesn't stop being a game just because it's a simulator.
ED Team NineLine Posted February 18, 2014 ED Team Posted February 18, 2014 iRacing isnt entertainment Thats a point of view, I was in since Beta (dropped about the time my little girl was born), I only used it as entertainment... hardcore entertainment, but entertainment none the less... As for pricing, you can easily spend that in other forms of entertainment, including "free to play" games and other such things... I dont think pricing has any bearing on whether or not anything is considered entertainment or not. Simulation and Entertainment can coexist... say you cant have one without the other isnt correct. GGTharos Posted February 18, 2014 Posted February 18, 2014 And it doesn't mean it stops being a simulator just because it is a game. These are ridiculous plays on words, and only serve to muddle an issue that is rather moot. Why aren't graphics all that great on commercial sims? Because flight training is done on the real deal. Those sims teach you to operate the aircraft or deal with emergencies - that is their purpose, and they meet the specs paid for to accomplish this. They don't simulate everything, and they're not some sort of metric of what simulation is, should be, or could be. The point is, it doesn't stop being a game just because it's a simulator. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Reminder: SAM = Speed Bump :D I used to play flight sims like you, but then I took a slammer to the knee - Yoda
VincentLaw Posted February 18, 2014 Posted February 18, 2014 meet the specs paid forIt really boils down to this. Simulator developers, entertainment or not, must provide specs that people are willing to pay for without exceeding sustainable operating costs. EDGE was created because the consumers/contractors want better specs, but we don't already have it because of the development cost. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

I still believe multi format is the way to go Put simply it will generate more cash. DCS is already Excellent in scalability so a arcade type version should not Be a problem to them. same world same equipment just dumbed down flight Controls. As players progress its up to them if they want more realism and switchability I suspect many would. I have been watching recent events. WOT have released a Xbox 360 version And by all accounts its doing well. Although they should have made a Xbox One version. I don't know for sure, but I bet the Xbox 1 and PS4 would run DCS
