uboats Posted March 7, 2014 Posted March 7, 2014 Generally, I turned on all autopilots (head, pitch, roll?) except alt. When I engage hover, then all four lights on. But if I disengage hover (off), sometimes, only alt lights off, others on; while sometimes, all four lights off. And sometimes no light off! Why such strange things happen? And after quit from hover, it is more difficult to quickly speed up the heli? Even when I increase the collective stick and push stick forward to gain pulling force. But if the heli just take-off, doing the same thing can quickly increase heli speed. Hunden Ynk Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 Yeah, Auto-hover is unpolite like that! It will turn on alt hold by it self, and leave it like that, even after it's disengaged. The second issue, when it turns off all four AP modes, is more nasty - it happens when you descend below a certain altitude, 4m (or so). Why it think that's a good idea, I have no clue. It's simply best to avoid Auto-hover when close to the ground, as that's a situation where you don't want an aircraft that suddenly controls radically different. Concerning the lack of speed, that sound strange. (Unless auto-hover is still on as you try to accelerate - yeah, I've done that mistake.) One idea, might be wrong though; When taking off, you're probably hovering low enough (half of the rotor diameter) to be within the ground-effect, leading to an increased lifting force and hence the feeling of a more responsive aircraft. However, that increased lift is diminished as you pick up speed.
tsumikae Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 Seems strange. Actually, if you engage auto-hover and the doppler navigation system is not aligned yet, (typically in a take off scenario) it will automatically disengage the bank, pitch and heading autopilots. In short, if your ground speed is not displayed on your hud, chances are engaging auto-hover will not work that well. In the same spirit, if you're getting that result when disengaging an auto-hover, check the EKRAN messages. The DNS may be at fault too. Can't you upload a track, so we can see what's going on?
