  1. I use my Saitek (non-pro though) without centering spring, and just adjust the tension nob to regain resistance. But perhaps I'm misunderstanding you.
  2. I use Autohotkey for stuff like that, flexible and useful outside of DCS as well. However, having to start and mange an external process is annoying.
  3. As I remember, you have an mi-24 as flight leader, who's also getting you up to speed regarding the situation and the local geography over the radio.
  4. Hmm, don't you have another heli as guide?
  5. Regarding bit-depth: 8 bit per color channel gives you 256 levels of each color, since one bit is either 0 or one. Leading to a total of 16 million possible colors, and there are three color channels, so that's 24 bit. 32 bit gives you one extra channel, which is used as an alpha (transparency). Regarding color issues: When I have those kind of problems, it's usually because something goes wrong with color-spaces and/or profiles. Like program X saves the image in sRGB, but program Y knows nothing about ICC profiles, yadayada... This is messy stuff.
  6. If TM where to make a new joystick suitable for helicopters, while keeping a decent budget. I'd much rather have them make a modern MSFFB2, a simple stick, but with solid and durable FF mechanics. As opposed to a fancy stick like the Warthog, but with crappy, or no FF. Since it is so much easier to change the handle on the MSFFB2 to something more sophisticated if your heart so desires, than to add FF to the WH.
  7. I've made an icon for the model viewer. (Or rather tried, dang, those things are tiny.) Perhaps someone else is like me and gets confused by a task-bar full of those generic icons. https://googledrive.com/host/0B9RbIgitzj_HQk04Z0diTUtvSlk/edm.ico
  8. I would recommend starting with passive opponents, there's one quick-start shooting range mission and another one under the "regular" missions menu. That way you'll reduce the amount of external feedback significantly, dropping your stress level and giving all time in the world to fiddle and experiment. Good luck, keep at it and have fun!
  9. It's two separate applications. To be a tad constructive; you can use that occation to switch focus to the desktop (at least when using the non full screen option), if you're restless and want do something else while waiting...
  10. Since it's a post-update to the Ka-50, it's only able to take input from other systems, just like you describe. But, those systems know nothing about the ABRIS, and it can not send them any output in return - hence, turning it off will not make you loose any functionality except for the ABRIS itself.
  11. What Fishbreath said. And for me, another recipe for disaster is any time I try being too fancy and/or too fast. Slow and dull is good for my virtual health.
  12. I don't know about your particular problem, seems the AI got stuck in some state, making it refuse new orders. If that happens, I usually try issuing a new command for example "rejoin formation", which sometimes works. But I have just accepted that the AI is not to be counted on and that it is prone to bugging out. For example: it once got stuck on repeating the same response over the radio, again and again - pretty distracting.:crash:
  13. Wouldn't we welcome any (non-flesh) bird with open arms (of both kinds) as long as it's adorned by the DCS prefix?
  14. Man oh man, I just wish the footage wasn't so heavily edited. I'm allergic to that kind of slow-mo.
  15. DCS is not the only game in town that performs better on a particular brand, for example: http://anandtech.com/bench/product/1041?vs=1037
  16. But if you're put-off by the T, will you really like the rest of DCS - I strongly doubt it. For me, much of the joy, comes from the act of learning about the unknown.
  17. Thanks tsumikae, for schooling me! :)
  18. Isn't that the Head-On-AA mode, with regular AA using the impact fuse. Or I'm I confused?
  19. Yeah per core performance has sadly hit a wall, those darn physics. I'm very impressed by the stability of 1.27, the open beta might have payed off - a big thanks to all the brave testers!
  20. A question: How come he's saying that the laser-horizon is not used like an ADI? To me the functionality seems identical, I'm I misunderstanding something?
  21. Thanks, that was super interesting and very neatly presented - it sure put a smile on my face!
  22. If you want to rebind it, you'll find it in the key-settings dialog under the general category, named click-able cockpit on/off, or at least something similar.
  23. Is it just me suffering from placebo, or does even the old map look better in edge? Oh boy, happy times!
  24. Yeah, Auto-hover is unpolite like that! It will turn on alt hold by it self, and leave it like that, even after it's disengaged. The second issue, when it turns off all four AP modes, is more nasty - it happens when you descend below a certain altitude, 4m (or so). Why it think that's a good idea, I have no clue. It's simply best to avoid Auto-hover when close to the ground, as that's a situation where you don't want an aircraft that suddenly controls radically different. Concerning the lack of speed, that sound strange. (Unless auto-hover is still on as you try to accelerate - yeah, I've done that mistake.) One idea, might be wrong though; When taking off, you're probably hovering low enough (half of the rotor diameter) to be within the ground-effect, leading to an increased lifting force and hence the feeling of a more responsive aircraft. However, that increased lift is diminished as you pick up speed.
