I was able to hit a ground target on around 9+km with it and it does appear to be a bit overkill considering you can carry 12 vikhrs with slightly less range which kill most ground targets. Wikipedia says it has 11km range. I assume it being a much larger missile it is used against ships?
Erforce Posted March 30, 2014 Posted March 30, 2014 well, i've made a dcs codex for every ground armors and Ka weapons, in my sig. to sum it up : 0 penetration = soft unit (human), 1 penetration = god-mode unit vikhr : damage 37.9 points, penetration 0.2 max (the best armored unit = bunker with 50 life and 0.2 armor) 1x S-13 : damage 115 points, penetration 0.01 (5 by pod) Kh25 : damage 160 points, penetration 0.01 if you get me, they do high damage, but on soft targets. it means, that they can overkill non-armored grount unit (most of them have 1-5 life, even M2A2) they can penetrates through ship modules (a Ticonderoga has 1200 life, separated by sections (bridge, front canon, etc..) and can sink a civilian ship (cargo/tanker = 200-400life) but you'll never kill a heavy grount unit, any tank of heavy APC. For the distance, you can engage manually with a vikhr at 10km, 13 if you're over 1km. Does not matter if in the real life the Kh-25ML have better Performance and does not matter what we request for... in 4s, 3s, 2s, 1s, 0s you will have here a moderator saying that the 25ML is old, and is old... Often this lead to some confusion in comparing two weapons made and evaluated in different "mindset" More to say, the Maverick is a missile exclusively launched by planes, with a high initial speed and higher altitude. Maybe the Kh-25ML's datas come from the Helicopter launch, from very low speed and altitude. charlesnett Posted April 16, 2014 Posted April 16, 2014 from my limited testing the issues with this missle in ver 1.27 have now been corrected in 1.28 beta. again my testing has benn limited but i have successfully engaged and destroyed targets at max range with the 25ml in 1.28 which would have failed in 1.27. plan to test more and will report back if in this thread if i find my observation is flawed. so far so good though. In your thread title you say "Kh 24ML" but in the text "Kh 25ML", but as the Ka-50 can only load the 25, I suppose you are talking about that one, right? The issue with the 25 I have is that it loses altitude after firing very quickly and goes at about 45 degrees straight into the ground. Only if you fire it at higher altitude AGL, the 25 recovers at some distance and continues with level flight. But to archieve that, one has to launch it at much higher alt than any Blackshark pilot probably is comfortable with ... This issue was introduced with 1.2.7 and is still present in 1.2.8 OB RC1.
