Skulleader Posted March 10, 2014 Posted March 10, 2014 Hello, During my auto-rotation with the KA-50 each time that I close the "Left and Right Engine Fuel Valve Switch" I lose the speed data of the HUD. When my KA-50 is in Auto-rotation all the data are OK but I lose just the speed data, is it normal or one bug ? Please can you help me to understand ? A great thanks in advance for all, Skull. tsumikae Posted March 10, 2014 Posted March 10, 2014 It is normal, indeed. By closing the valves, you shut down your engines. And by shutting down your engines, you cut the AC generators power supply. They are, among many other things, responsible for making the DNS (doppler navigation system) work. And that system evaluate your speed and drift velocity.
AlphaOneSix Posted March 10, 2014 Posted March 10, 2014 If you can keep your rotor speed up, your AC generators will continue to operate just fine. If you allow the rotor speed to drop too low when you cut off the engines, your AC generators drop offline until your rotor speed comes back up. Even then, it will take a little while for the DNS to reset or whatever it does...not likely to finish before you "land".
Skulleader Posted March 10, 2014 Author Posted March 10, 2014 (edited) Hello, Super your explanations are perfect and now everything is OK. I've well understand... I wish you a very good day, Skull. chromium Posted March 10, 2014 Posted March 10, 2014 During autorototaion check airspeed more than ground speed. To have a more immediate reference, as said, keep rotor speed >80% adjusting collective in the controlled descent: it also keep Skhval powered that provide a immediate IAS reading (that is, imho, a good while not best solution, as you may find yourself without operating shkval in an effective emergency situation). An airplane by it's nature wants to fly, and if not interfered with too strongly by unusual events or by a deliberately incompetent pilot, it will fly. A helicopter does not want to fly. It is maintained in the air by a variety of forces in opposition to each other, and if there is any disturbance in this delicate balance the helicopter stops flying; immediately and disastrously.
Skulleader Posted March 10, 2014 Author Posted March 10, 2014 Hello Chromium, I've read your explanations and I go tested all these things... Bye and thanks again, Skull.
