Hello there - Bear with my, this is my story for today.

I have what I call a peculiar problem.

I started up plugging in the controller and launching the CD i got with my joystick. It displayed some simple control dialogs where I could verify stuff - Worked great. I even got to fly some.

However my experience in buying electronics to PC is that it comes with a fairly out-dated software on the CD so I went to saitec and downloaded Smart Technology 7_0_27_13 64Bit to my Windows 7 64bit system. Now I launched it and I was told I had some outdated drivers and it would replace them or something.

No the shinnanigans started. The software told me to connect the controller, it detected it and displayed the 'Continue' button and I clicked it. It seem to start "replacing" so I went to take a piss. When I got back, all my controls were disabled, even the joystick. Nothing works. After several reboots etc. I had to unplug the joystick from the USB port and reboot my computer before I could have any mouse, keyboard or headphones. All connected to USB ports.

Now I atleast have managed to systemrestore to yesterday and managed to plug the joystick in. However if I try to install any software the carnage returns.

Appreciate any help / suggestion you guys might have.

Oh and the stick is brand new.. (and dont start on x55, I've seen it)

Thank you - Regards Saetheer

If it were me I would start over by deleting everything Saitek that you can find including the joystick folder in the saved games folder. Download the latest drivers being careful to select the right ones for your system. Plug in the stick to a usb2 connection only when prompted and see what happens. Then download and install the SST software.

Thanks, however I got ASUS Z87-PRO, Socket-1150 motherboard. Which seems to not have USB 2.0 ports, only 3.0......... Could that be the issue, and how can I beat this? I'm really frustrated atm. that a USB port might be the issue...

That mobo has USB 2.0 on the board. You will need to use a front or rear panel USB header. They are inexpensive, under $10, at least the rear ones are.

Like this rear panel unit:

Thanks, I figured I had such "front panel" but still the same issue.

I don't know what to do else to return the product to the vendor, its very unfortunate.

I have an open ticket with Mad Catz but they seem to ignore me..

I started to have similiar issues after changing my mobo and processor. It was bad. bluescreens and such. I read somwhere that removing or not installing the usb3 drivers would make the usb3 ports work as usb2. I did have usb2 ports on the front panel but was still having problems, so I gave it a go. This completely eliminated all the issues and crashes. I have most of the 8 usb ports in use without any issues. Now ofcourse you'll miss out on the improvement over version 2 usb, but I can't afford a better HOTAS at the moment and this solution lets me use the hardware I currently have.

I had this X52 issue as well on my Asus Formula VI.

Actually there is 3 solutions :

1/ Disable xHCI USB in bios

This will disable USB3.0 feature and turn them into USB2.0.

Using whatever USB2.0 ports when xHCI is enabled WON'T help.

This method is also better than uninstalling USB 3.0 drivers as you will still be able to activate USB 3.0 with a simple bios option toggle if you need USB3.0 awesomeness.

(ie. when transferring your holidays mkv to external USB 3.0 devices ^^ )

2/ Switch to Win8.1

Win8.1 USB3.0 drivers are quite better, honestly.

X52 will work BUT : you will still suffer from X52's MFD txt display corruptions with xHCI enabled.

3/ Get an X-55 Rhino.

No problem here with USB 3.0 and it is a nice upgrade over an X52.

X-52 Freezes up solution

If anyone has an X-52 Pro that freezes up try this, plug your controller into each usb port until it completely lites up, all the lights work on the controller and it doesnt freeze up, the port that does that is the port you need to use each time you use your X-52 controller, I had this problem for the longest thinking my computer was incompatible with saitek and all this other crazy stuff, not it works all the time and no longer freezes up, that should correct this problem.
