During ramp start, I switch SPU-9 comm to crew, and then I can use \->f8 to contact with crew to turn on/off external power. I also turn of intercom and vhf-1/2

However, no matter keep SPU-9 on crew or switch it back to vhf-1/2, if I contact ATC, \->f5, there is no response (neither message nor sound) from the ATC

Anyone can help me on that issue?

In the trk, I turned on AC/DC power, and SPU-9 to crew to ask crew to supply power. But I found even I did not switch SPU-9 to crew, I can still comm with crew through

\->F8

At Sochi, VHF is 122.100 MHz, I set the VHF1/2 to 122.100, but can not hear from ATC yet.[solved]

One new problem: after request takeoff, for a long time, I haven't heard any response from atc (there was response for startup), vhf freq is correct.

Then I taxi to runway, after taking off, then ATC responded!!! Why such a long time?

bs2 atc no response.trk

Are you sure you're on the ATC frequency? Check your main transceiver mate ;)

Oh? Where to change the freq? Since in many ramp start video tutorials, no such step.....

Realistic comms were introduced with BS2 IIRC, so older ramp start videos would not need to show how to tune the frequency.

The R-800L1 frequency can be tuned with the 4 red thumb wheels:

Radio frequency thumb wheels. These four ridged wheels can be rotated to input frequencies. The frequency is entered in kHz in 25 kHz steps. The two left wheels indicate integer MHz values and the two right wheels indicate onethousandths of MHz values.

And some visual pointers. :)

If that doesn't help, you should post a track. A few more potential pitfalls come to mind, but it would be guesswork whether or not they have to do with your problem.

Okay, two small problems. :)

First: Sochi's frequency is 127 MHz, not 122. The easiest way to find an airfield's frequency is to use the F10 map and click on the airfield.

Second, you used the R828 VHF-1 radio. This radio's control panel is located on the right panel and its frequency range is 20 to 60 MHz, so it can't be used to contact ATC.

The R800 radio with the controls on the left panel is selected as VHF-2 on the radio selector knob.

So basically:

  • set Batteries to on
  • set Intercom and VHF-2 power to on
  • set radio selector knob to VHF-2
  • select 127.000 MHz
  • make sure to operate the radio with the SPU9-PTT key and not just the communication menu key (see lmp's post above for default keys)

That should do it.

On a side note, as long as the door is open, you can talk to ground crew regardless of radio selector knob setting. Only after closing the door do you need the intercom to talk to ground crew. IIRC this is even true when the engines are running.

And another side note, in the Ka-50 you don't need generators or ground power to talk to ATC, so switching on the Batteries should be sufficient (unlike in the A-10C, IIRC).
