Habu_69 Posted March 22, 2014 Posted March 22, 2014 I have unsuccessfully been trying to fix an older mission. Scenario is A-10C CAS group that depends on 2 AI SEAD groups (Tornadoes) to destroy an SA-11 group that controls the op area air space. I can not get the SEAD groups to do their job. They consistently just lob a couple of HARMS at the command center then RTB even tho each aircraft has a 4 HARM load-out. I have tried assigning them to attack individual launcher units with ARM, attack SA-11 group, search and attack enroute, SEAD enroute task, different flight plan launch ranges and angles, and using F-18s. No joy. Since all this action is transparent to the A-10 pilots, I can always resort to disabling the SA-11 AI after awhile to simulate mission accomplished, but I would prefer to get the SEAD flights working. So, any advice? Anyone have this working well in a mission?
ENO Posted March 24, 2014 Posted March 24, 2014 If it were me I might put in the SEAD for show and just "destroy unit" a short time after the tornadoes had entered their launch zone. They can fire at whatever they want... you can destroy the unit (search radar or site) at your discretion. Depending on the AI to accomplish anything is risking the design of a whole mission- so sometimes you need to work around it. Habu_69 Posted March 24, 2014 Author Posted March 24, 2014 Thanks for reply and for the recommendation. My post accomplished its objective, mainly to query whether or not anyone had found some scheme to coerce the AI to do their job.
WildBillKelsoe Posted March 24, 2014 Posted March 24, 2014 I think Eno's recommendation can be elaborated abit further: Condition: Destroy command center Trigger: explode launcher units Easy Peasy! AWAITING ED NEW DAMAGE MODEL IMPLEMENTATION FOR WW2 BIRDS Fat T is above, thin T is below. Long T is faster, Short T is slower. Open triangle is AWACS, closed triangle is your own sensors. Double dash is friendly, Single dash is enemy. Circle is friendly. Strobe is jammer. Strobe to dash is under 35 km. HDD is 7 times range key. Radar to 160 km, IRST to 10 km. Stay low, but never slow.
winz Posted March 24, 2014 Posted March 24, 2014 The reason why the tornados are not engaging is that lanuchers don't have their radar on unless they are engaging, so the tornados are unable to target/destroy them with HARMS. The Valley A-10C Version Revanche for FC 3
Habu_69 Posted March 25, 2014 Author Posted March 25, 2014 The reason why the tornados are not engaging is that lanuchers don't have their radar on unless they are engaging, so the tornados are unable to target/destroy them with HARMS. Ahhh, that would conform to tactics logic; however, I tried giving the Tornados' WP both a 30 min. duration and an orbit command to make them hang around and engage. No joy. They invariably engage the command center, not the snow drift, then RTB. The explode unit trigger action will serve the purpose I need.
