Hi

Tried to search this but couldn't find an answer!

When flying the A-10A in a 20m/s (40kts) headwind the IAS seems wrong, it doesn't take the headwind into consideration in the air, it does though on ground, is this a known bug?

If you watch the track I provide you can see that I'm able to fly at 50-55kts directly into the wind, without stalling? Making me believe that DCSW is showing Ground Speed(GS) rather then IAS(indicated airspeed) & thus omitting the head wind?

Tried it with F-15 & the same results.

The A10-A had half fuel & full weapon load, track & weather pic. provided.

Thanx!

No, there is no bug.

You are flying through the air at 250kts.

The air is moving 40kts in the opposite direction of you.

You are moving at 250-40=210kts ground speed.

Your IAS is correct at 250. It is your air speed.

So according to your calculation: My IAS is 55kts, headwind -40kts =15kts GS......how can the A-10A fly at 55kts IAS, that's just wrong!

What I'm saying is that the HUD speed is showing GS instead of IAS!

Therefore 55knt GS + 40kts headwind=95knt IAS....is more correct.

Look at my IAS when I'm standing still (it's 88kts which also seems wrong it should be 40kts) on the rwy & then when, at lift off the speed suddenly drops....that shouldn't happen!

Incidentally, the above explains why this is not a bug:

The IAS in this video is correct 160:ish kts, but I don't get the same result in my A-10A when landing in a headwind(watch the track), I was getting 60kts in full landing config & green on AoA indicator....why?

No, it's correct. You will show 55IAS, 15GS. (your IAS is 55kts ... not your GS). Headwinds slow down your GS.

I see, sounds like a bug - I'll check it out tomorrow.

So I did some more tests:

The P-51, UH-1, Mi-8 IAS behaves correct, when standing still on the rwy with a 40kts headwind, they all show 40kts IAS (Mi-8 80km/h) & when airborne the IAS is as it should be.

Some of the FC3 aircraft's IAS reeding is very strange:

-When standing still on the rwy with a 40kts headwind: A10-A 80kts? F-15c 80kts?, SU-25T 80km/h, SU-27 150km/h? Only SU-25T seems to show correct IAS!

Of course all the aircrafts above show 0 IAS, when 0 wind.

Bump....something being done about this?

Also see these tests:http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=122636

See track below of F15C, starting on rwy with a 20m/s=40kts headwind & look at the IAS & AoA during the flight.

Can an F-15C be flown at 60kts without stalling? of course not...but I'm doing it in the track. The IAS is way off.

Why isn't ED doing something about this basic IAS bug? I just tested it in the recent update. Your's IAS calculations are way off & I bet it effects other aspects of the DCS World's aerodynamics!

I agree with Rodd here. In a pure headwind, your IAS should be your ground speed + wind speed. If you're flying with an IAS below your stall speed, something is wrong so I think the HUD and the air speed dial are incorrectly showing ground speed.

Incidentally, sitting still on the runway, I show an IAS of 29 kts in a 20 m/s headwind so that seems off a bit too. Should be close to 40 kts.

Watched this track in 1.2.11 - IAS at ground - something like 35knots, takeoff at around 120 knots. IAS from HUD. Can you confirm that it is still here at 1.2.11?

Yes it's still wrong since the latest 1.2.11 update....It's showing GS instead of IAS. In all FC3 aircrafts.
