Skulleader Posted April 19, 2014 Posted April 19, 2014 (edited) Hello guys, I need your knowledge: What better size for saved my files ? With 2Mo poor quality versus the 4Mo files ? I created all my files with Photshop, after I use Paint.Net for convert to DDS my files but I don't know what format choose for the vest result: With DX1 the size of my file is 2Mo. With DX3 the size of my file is 4Mo. With DX5 the size of my file is 4Mo. Please can you tell me format that you use for yoyr repaints ? A great great thanks in advance, Skull. GeorgeLKMT Posted April 19, 2014 Posted April 19, 2014 Color compression is the same for DXT1, 3 and 5, so no change in image quality. However, they do differ in a way they store alpha information: DXT1 = no alpha or 1bit alpha (2 colors) DXT3 = only 16 levels of grey in alpha DXT5 = all 256 levels of grey in alpha So: Use DXT1 for textures without alpha or with simple two-color alpha. Use DXT5 for textures with smooth gradient alpha. And by the way, why are you using Paint.NET for saving your DDS, when in your previous topic I pointed out that Photoshop can save them too with proper tools, which I linked as well. ■ L-39C/ZA Czech cockpit mod ■ My DCS skins ■

Thanks again, Skull. GeorgeLKMT Posted April 20, 2014 Posted April 20, 2014 Right, simple textures you're painting will do just fine in DXT1. I think that only some specific textures have alpha, but not those you're using for skinning. I'm glad I could help. ■ L-39C/ZA Czech cockpit mod ■ My DCS skins ■
joey45 Posted April 20, 2014 Posted April 20, 2014 For the diffuse I use DXT5 For the Spec layer I use DXT1 with 1bit alpha. The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance.
