What you need to do is .... to tell us what file extension those files actually have. Otherwise nobody knows what they are and what to do with them ...

Thanks for replying, I downloaded the AAR refuelling practice mission, it was saved in a WinRAR file. There are two files one just says options and the other one just says mission, both have file as the extension, I have tried changing the file to miz as suggested in some other posts that I read but that didn't help, I have found this problem with a few mission's that I have downloaded.

Please help struggling newbie.....

Here is the miz file. Put it in your saved games/DCS/Missions folder. You can access it in your DCS program by looking at My Missions in the mission menu.

There are cases where a browser will rename the extension of the .rar itself. You have to change the actual zip/rar file from .zip/.rar to .miz and then play it in DCS for it to work right. Do not change anything inside the .zip/.rar file.

Well I had my first bash at refuelling, its not easy. You mentioned that I may have to change the file extension on the rar file, is that by just right clicking and renaming, and is there a bit of software that wont cause me this problem, I have quite a few missions that I would like to try but cant due to the same problem. I look forward to your reply, as I swim back to the beach....

The appearance of the miz file should look like the one I attached to the previous post. If you have mission files that look like that just right click and rename with the .miz extension and it should work. Try it and pop it into your mission folder and see if it shows up in the DCS mission menu. if it does then you are good to go.

Hell no, it isn't. But the satisfaction of your first uninterrupted load of gas is worth all the hard work. :D

Yup, that should do the trick.

This kind of remote debugging is pretty difficult. I haven't experienced this problem and I have no clue what's going on.

Bigfoot already suggested that the browser could be the culprit. Can you test another browser to download a mission and check if the problem persists? Common alternate browser choices are Firefox and Chrome, or you could go wild and experiment with Safari.

Of course the file could have been uploaded with the .rar extension. Help us help you: Where did you get your file(s) from? The more info you provide, the higher the chances that someone will figure out what's actually happening.

Also, by default Windows hides the extension of most file types, so if the file was actually called foobar.rar.miz, the Windows Explorer might show it as foobar.rar, hiding the real extension. I think this is a terrible design decision on Microsoft's behalf and would strongly suggest to disable this "feature".

I have down loaded most of the missions from this site, I am using windows explorer latest version, and internet download manager which I have been using for years. What I have tried with some of the missions is when the down load manager has identified the download, I have changed the file extension to Miz prior to commencing the download, which on those missions has seemed to be successful, I will try the others. Can you confirm for me when I download the missions there should only be a few files visible, as with some of them there are loads of files and I am not quite sure where they all go.

Thank you all for your continuing support, I would be lost without this site, I wouldn't have even got off the ground.

All mission files consist of one file only. Sometimes you may download a mission in a zip file that contains more than one version of the same mission or perhaps several missions as parts of a campaign but there is only one miz file for each mission that contains everything.

Just like Blooze said, one mission equals one file with .miz extension. An example for a single mission download would be the A-10C single mission linked in this post. If you follow the download link and click "Download", it's a single mission file with .miz extension.

In order to play the mission, you must save the .miz file to your "My Missions" folder.

Multiple missions may come in .rar or .zip files. An example for such a download is Dragon's Trainingpack. The download link points to a ZIP archive with lots of .miz files and a single JPG image inside.

In order to play (any of) the missions, you must extract all .miz files from the ZIP Archive to your "My Missions" folder.

Basically, when you put a .miz file in your "My Missions" folder, it should show up in DCS. If you place any other files in that folder, they should be ignored by DCS.

The default location for the "My Missions" folder is Saved Games\DCS\Missions, and the full path should be something like

C:\Users\{your windows username}\Saved Games\DCS\Missions.

I know there's a lot of re-iteration in this post, but I hope it helps to clarify a few things.
