The reloading Dragon is powered by the A-10's own hydraulics? Thats a stroke of genius. It really is the best airplane for flying as near as you can get to the FLET.

Never realized just how huge that cannon is. Or the part about how they have to keep the empty shell casings aboard as they serve as ballast :D

You wouldn't want to eject them overboard anyway- that's a quarter pound of very unaerodynamic metal just waiting to strike some fragile bit of airframe on the way out.

Avoiding having them sucked into the engines is probably also a useful benefit to keeping them on board.
