Ratfink Posted May 19, 2014 Posted May 19, 2014 I have a small irritating problem with the Hotas Warthog and FC3 fighters, mainly say F-15C which at present I'm flying the most in FC3 Inspired by my Falcon BMS setup, I have the boat switch mapped to select between BVR mode 2 (fwd), ACM mode 3 (back) and Nav 1 (mid). Each time I go from ACM through Nav to BVR, the radar goes off entering NAV and stays off in BVR. So when switching modes in combat I lose radar and have to press i (mapped to mini stick press) to get radar back. Is there a way to keep radar on until I select it off? Why should radar be off in Nav mode anyway? It's a feature sim and many, if not most of what we see only goes as far as RESEMBLING the real aircraft. If there were real HOTAS functionality in the F-15C, none of the commands we have in-game would work as they do in the real thing. So, to make it short and simple: Don't compare it with F4.0 BMS. The only thing in common they have is that they both have wings and fly. Similarities end there, though. :) Oh... the new AFM in the F-15C is sure sweet and in many terms better than what is found in BMS. The rest doesn't compare. :pilotfly:
Kenan Posted May 20, 2014 Posted May 20, 2014 ^^And in the end, you didn't answer the guy's question. AFAIK it's possible to have radar ON while in NAV mode. I have it on my HOTAS Warthog (using Target Profile) but can't tell you exactly how I set it up (a bit late over here). If noone else responds by tommorow, I'll look into it and let you know. Then please do enlighten me much as well, because I have never been able to keep the radar on while on nav mode in the F-15C or in the Russian jets. :) Whenever I switch to nav mode (press 1 on the keyboard) the radar goes off. Pressing "I" does not switch it on for me. Is there a workaround for it? :)

Hi Dok, thanks yes I know all that I'm just saying the boat switch function I have for BMS is good for FC3 too, just it's a bit annoying with the radar going off. It's a minor thing perhaps, but sometimes FC3's playability suits my mood when I can't be bothered with the all the fiddly DCS stuff and this will make a good thing slightly better for me :) CORSAIR 5000D AIRFLOW Mid Tower | AMD RYZEN 7 9800X3D | G.Skill Trident Z5 Neo EXPO RGB 64GB (2x32GB) DDR5 PC5-48000C30 6000MHz | ASUS ROG X870E-E GAMING WIFI | Gigabyte RTX5080 Gaming OC 16GB | 4TB Lexar NM790 M.2 PCIe 4.0 | Seasonic Prime TX-1000 1000W 80 Plus Titanium Modular Power Supply | Lian Li Galahad II Trinity AIO 360mm | Meta Quest Pro | TM HOTAS Warthog | Saitek Combat Rudder Pedals | Win 11 Home | Asus PG348Q 34" 3440x1440 Monitor | Bose Companion 3 2.1 Sound
Svend_Dellepude Posted May 21, 2014 Posted May 21, 2014 I have tried laying the different modes on the boat switch as well. In the end i ditched the idea because of exactly that problem. Second, it didn't really make sense to me, to setup the boat switch the same way as D/F switch in an F-16, because I never use nav mode, besides T/O and landing. There is no A/G mode in the F-15. It could maybe make more sense to put the three A/A modes on the boat switch and then put nav mode somewhere else. DarkFib3r Posted May 30, 2014 Posted May 30, 2014 Another idea to consider is to map BVR and ACM to the boat switch (fore and aft), but not map Nav to the middle position. Instead, map Nav to the TMS (e.g. TMS-Up) and then complement it with Cycle Waypoint on TMS-Left. Of course, this is all personal preference, but it allows you to get into your fighting mode, turn on your radar, and keep the radar on as you cycle between combat modes.
Weta43 Posted June 1, 2014 Posted June 1, 2014 (edited) Just checking that the OP has noticed that when you change to a combat mode, the nav mode continues to operate in the background in whatever mode it was in - steering cues are still given, and waypoints switched automatically as you pass them or when you change them manually... (because it didn't in earlier versions..) Edited June 1, 2014 by Weta43 Cheers.
