Krupi Posted June 5, 2014 Posted June 5, 2014 Sorry if this is the wrong place to post this and I know only UK residents can watch iPlayer but if you are a fan of aviation you owe it to yourself to somehow obtain and watch this documentary. Eric "Winkle" Brown, just an extraordinary chap... :smartass: http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b045pbq2/britains-greatest-pilot-the-extraordinary-story-of-captain-winkle-brown Windows 10 Pro | ASUS RANGER VIII | i5 6600K @ 4.6GHz| MSI RTX 2060 SUPER | 32GB RAM | Corsair H100i | Corsair Carbide 540 | HP Reverb G2 | MFG crosswind Pedals | Custom Spitfire Cockpit Project IX Cockpit
Simbo Sim_123 Posted June 6, 2014 Posted June 6, 2014 (edited) Very good documentary.Interesting that he was given the job of interviewing Göring at Nuremberg and Winkle`s first question was "Who won the Battle of Britain ?" Göring replied "It was a draw!" The last week of the battle showed the Luftwaffe had less aircraft destroyed and the RAF had more which started to indicate German supremacy and Hitler pulled the aircraft from France to the Eastern Front ! Next time they both met Göring held out his hand in respect to shake another pilot`s hand but Winkle refused and said "Hals- und Beinbruch" instead ! Edited June 6, 2014 by Simbo Sim_123

Emu Posted June 8, 2014 Posted June 8, 2014 James McCudden is my favourite. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_McCudden Like all true aces, he never fought fairly: http://www.gracesguide.co.uk/James_McCudden Using his knowledge as a mechanic, he effectively supercharged his aircraft to give it an additional 4,000ft altitude ceiling. This resulted in him specialising in carefully stalking high altitude reconnaissance aircraft, leading to an unsurpassed total of captured enemy aircraft kills (21 fell within Allied lines). Some of these stalking techniques are described in McCudden's autobiography, entitled "Flying Fury - Five Years In the RFC".
