Hi all,

Wondering if anyone else here has an nVidia GTX 580 and a 27" 2560x1440 (QHD) screen and what FPS they are getting out of it in DCS.

I'm wallowing about whether I should go for a 27" 1080p (full-HD) screen or a 27" 1440p (QHD) screen. I'm know picture quality should be much much better with QHD and spotting things should be much easier, but I don't want a slideshow either...

Advice?

I can´t report any experiences on 580s and 27" WQHD, but generally the change in picture size and pixel density is quite noticeable. Flying will feel different in a positive way, not just the picture quality. The FOV can be greater, thereby providing better peripheral vision, better readability of instruments etc.

I had 580/24"/1080p for 3 years and went to 780/27"/1440p just recently. My 580 was sometimes struggling with DCS at 1080p when I set AA and display resolution too high, but you should be able to find settings that don´t result in a slideshow. If it doesn´t work too well, get a new card ;) Eventually you will have to anyway and until then a WQHD display can also run 1080p... (if all else fails ;) )

Sadly, one can´t say how older cards will handle EDGE...

How does the game look in 1080p on a 1440p native screen? There usually is some scaling which makes the image blurrier than a native 1080p... I supporse different screens handles it differently... Any info on that?

You are right, native resolution generally has better image quality. I definitely noticed this too when I ran 1080 on 1440p. The image is a little blurry, but it was only meant to be a last resort.

Although nothing specific has been said about EDGE and it´s performance, I can only imagine that your 580-graphics card should be able to run the game at 1440p. What are your specs?

Just to underline my point - I would gladly trade some image quality under 1440p (PP, render distance etc.) for the benefit of better visual immersion, overview, perception etc.

My old Asus 580 and my new Asus VG278HE runs fine.

The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance.

There won't be any scaling because the signal coming out of the PC is going to be 1440.
