Stratos Posted July 5, 2014 Posted July 5, 2014 IIRC the Bis should be able to carry the R-60 and the R-60M but we have only the M in game, will we get the early variant as well? And how the two variants compare against the Sidewinder? Is the early variant similar to the "P" Sidewinder and the R-60M more like the "L/M" Sidewinder? I'm looking for fair fights against AI planes. I don't understand anything in russian except Davai Davai!
WinterH Posted July 5, 2014 Posted July 5, 2014 As far as I recall... Either R-60 version's range is much shorter than P/L/M Sidewinders, if I'm not mistaken only R-60M is capable of some all-aspect ability, R-60's warhead is describable with the word "puny". Seekers of L/M are incomparably better than either version. Though it has much shorter minimum range, so it can be used in very close situations too. Also, I'm not sure but R-60 series may be the more "agile" missile that can pull some more Gs. Also R-60M should have a better off-boresight capability than AIM-9P, and should be about equal with AIM-9M. Overall : R-60M has some significant advantages over AIM-9P, but AIM-9P has better range and warhead. Vanilla R-60 ? well it may have some novel advantages like shorter minimum range and better agility, but that's about it. AIM-9M on the other hand, is overall superior missile in many ways. Wishlist: F-4E Block 53 +, MiG-27K, Su-17M3 or M4, AH-1F or W circa 80s or early 90s, J35 Draken, Kfir C7, Mirage III/V DCS-Dismounts Script
Iberian Posted July 5, 2014 Posted July 5, 2014 From my experiences in DCS: The R-60M has worked at all aspects. But more effective from a rear aspect shot. The R-60M has inferior range than both AIM-9P and M. So for more effectiveness I fire it when within 3 to 1 KM. R-60M loves flares, but not as much as the AIM-9P does. So fire it from a position where the enemy won't notice the missile coming to him, to avoid enemy deploying countermeasures. Some pilots rely too much on the weapons, and don't put enough effort on tactics. I'm sure there will be a few elite pilots out there that can deploy an R-60 way more effectively than most others shooting an R-27 or AIM-120. MiG-21 will be an effective weapon against modern fighters in my opinion. It all depends on how the pilot uses the aircraft, if the pilot can't think or imagine how it is possible, then these will be the same pilots my MiG-21 will prey upon. Obviously with a MiG-21 there will be necessities to change the tactics, but I plan to hunt flankers, fulcrums and eagles with my MiG-21 and I'm already confident the hunt will be successful! :) [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
