foyizapale Posted July 9, 2014 Posted July 9, 2014 I'm sorry if this has been discussed before, but are there any plans on implementing a working realistic radio system in DCS? I'm talking about third party radio mods like ACRE for ArmA and TARS for DCS. It would be awesome to be able to simply jump on a server and hop on the same radio frequency to talk to other pilots without having to install 3rd party programs. AFAIK the different radio channels are already simulated in game so that's one thing less to do. I can't believe that the game of such calibre doesn't already have a working radio. Sure we have text chat but that's not the same. I really hope they add something like this after EDGE because it would make playing the game ∞ times better and even more so on public servers.

KaspeR32 Posted July 9, 2014 Posted July 9, 2014 Didn't they say that they will update ATC with EDGE? ED said it was working on ATC quite a while ago. I never heard anything about it being updated for EDGE though. I do *think*, that once we get some new maps, they're going to have to re-visit ATC. Hopefully they'll make it a bit more "dynamic." kk0425 Posted July 12, 2014 Posted July 12, 2014 I would rather they sort out the current network code before adding something huge like voice. TS3 + TARS works just fine for the time being and there are many more important things the devs could be working on. Besides, would anybody even use it? There's few people that even use TS3 without TARS.
Dejjvid Posted July 12, 2014 Posted July 12, 2014 TARS is (sadly) outdated, and have some annoying bugs. And it doesn't support newer modules. A new plugin is on its way from another dev that will support all modules, and latest TS3 versions. ETA for public release is not set. But it's working a lot better then the current plugins at the moment.. I'm sure the dev will announce it when it's ready. i7 8700K | GTX 1080 Ti | 32GB RAM | 500GB M.2 SSD | TIR5 w/ Trackclip Pro | TM Hotas Warthog | Saitek Pro Flight Rudder [sigpic]http://www.132virtualwing.org[/sigpic]

I can't tell you how many friendly AC I have shot down because the other guy was running around with his jammer hot, refused to join TS, and I couldn't afford to take my hand off the stick long enough to type "raygun" (or if i could, he couldn't afford to take the time to type "buddyspike"). I've also been on the reverse of this situation as well (IE: I get blasted some some weedwhacker who aint on TS and thus couldn't hear me hollar buddyspike). Built-in voice comms would also help with the ATC situation: If we communicate with each other, it doesn't matter if people aren't receiving the tower (or choose to ignore it). The purpose of building in VOIP to the game is not that I don't want to run TS; it's that I want to force the lazy pricks who want to play online without consideration for what their teammates are doing to use TS.

I highly doubt that VOIP is going to fix your problem. There will still be guys who don't have a mic, and those who flat out don't want to use voice comms. Instead, you might end up with endless 15 year old chatter about the girl at school.
Demongornot Posted July 13, 2014 Posted July 13, 2014 It is very surprising and bad for a game like this to not have even a simple VOIP system such as the basic Arma 2/3 channel like a LOT of game and software have, i don't understand why their is not one. Some people that defend the fact that ED miss a lot of features and prefer adding more polygons to useless object rather than making vapor on wings... They say that it will take more bandswitch and blablabla, well that the worst excuse i have ever hear, some game can share 100 time more data than what DCS can do and don't have issue, voice take a so low ridiculously amount of banswitch, its not even over 20ko/s for skype and i'm really over exaggerated it, i have already see 7kbps with 3 people talking... But VOIP that work with radio on DCS is not a eyescandy or useless thing, i think its even a necessity, a lot of people DON'T want or CAN'T use teamspeak, a lot of people don't use TARS, and a lot of features can't work, such as the radio encrypting system. And if its really supposed to be a simulator, i don't see the point to need to use a third party SOFTWARE for access to the MOST BASIC and one of the most important aspect of military plane : communication. Look at this : With the "radio voice" effect it is both realistic and immersible, and it avoid to hear random noise from people, cause they will look like simple parasites. Even DayZ do it with walkie talkies that need batteries and set to the correct channel to work. So NO VOIP WON'T affect quality of the multiplayer, not more than using teamspeak/skype, it will be better and we will not need to deal to find the server, deal with group, have to back to desktop for anything and have to deal with unrealistic TS or bugged/boring and not complete TARS. This is ridiculous to having to use a third party VOIP and have to put a mods on it... Instead, you might end up with endless 15 year old chatter about the girl at school. which is what an ignore/mute feature is for. Really, though, i don't expect this to be much of a problem. Even playing the "for the masses" shooters and console games with voicecomms, i've never really had a problem with loudmouths on comms, and in the rare instances i did, i muted them and solved it handily enough.
