Razor5-1 Posted July 24, 2014 Posted July 24, 2014 I am interested in this stick as I hate the way mechanical (spring) sticks pass through neutral and bounce back to centre. I have it in my mind that this stick would be really really smooth to use for helicopters. Any input would be greatly appreciated!
ShuRugal Posted July 24, 2014 Posted July 24, 2014 If you get one, you will need to get a separate set of rudder pedals: I know several rotorheads who have tried the X-65, and they found it impossible to precisely control the twist input without influencing X and Y input as well.
Razor5-1 Posted July 24, 2014 Author Posted July 24, 2014 I have a set of pedals already so that is not an issue for me
Flagrum Posted July 24, 2014 Posted July 24, 2014 I don't really like it. It is difficult for me to produce smooth inputs - it is harder to keep a constant pressure in a specific direction than to keep a stick deflected at a constant angle in a specific direction ...
llama Posted July 24, 2014 Posted July 24, 2014 I have X65 and tbh I am thinkin about picking up the warthog (stick only). I do ok with the helos, but it is a pain to get the pressure just right and maintain it. That being said, I am a bad pilot that doesn't usetrim or autopilot very often....lol. I do absolutely love the number of buttons and switches on the throttle. There is a small spot on he throttle thatmakes a HUGE diff as far as input goes for collective, but once you are used to it, it isn't too bad. aeliusg Posted July 24, 2014 Posted July 24, 2014 I would recommend an FFB joystick to any of you for flying helicopters. I use a G940 stick extended by only about 3" for about 6" travel and flying helicopters is a breeze. The FFB2 I believe, has 6" travel already, so you wouldn't even need to modify it. I use simffb for added hydraulic feel and mechanical trim.
Razor5-1 Posted July 26, 2014 Author Posted July 26, 2014 I must say I played with the idea of picking up the Sidewinder 2 and replacing the stick with a HOTAS frankenstein build lol
algerad3 Posted July 26, 2014 Posted July 26, 2014 I have both the X-52 pro and the x65. Personally , I love the x65 and I use it for the Blackshark. It does take a little getting used to but once adjusted , it's a blast. I also have a "little " stick time in the A-10, P-51 and the Huey ,again once comfy with how it works , set up your force settings for each module and you will be good. Just make sure sure you set it up to rest at arm rest level and you will find it very comfy and responsive. On the desktop , it is very difficult and tiring. snuffles Posted August 1, 2014 Posted August 1, 2014 It takes getting used to, like learning how to use a NIA. Once you're comfortable you're fine. I don't always openly list my things. But when I do, I put it in my signature.
Miguel Gonsalez Posted August 5, 2014 Posted August 5, 2014 I am interested in this stick as I hate the way mechanical (spring) sticks pass through neutral and bounce back to centre. I have it in my mind that this stick would be really really smooth to use for helicopters. Any input would be greatly appreciated! I use X65F in all sims. As written above, it takes some time to get used to it, but after quite short period it becomes very comfortable to use. Many people say that hats on the stick are not accessible easily, but the reason in the most cases is playing on the most "tough" force setting. In this case you must apply very essential force to the stick and grab it very hard, thus limiting your access to the hats on the stick. If you start from "light" force settings you'll notice quite soon, that only two fingers are just enough for any turn. By the way, about 2 years ago i supposed a mount, that can easily convert X65F stick into a moveable one without any intrusions into the stick construction. I didn't made it myself, but recently I found a guy, who made it. Here is the mount, I think, you'll understand the main idea:
