Tek Posted July 28, 2014 Posted July 28, 2014 From what i can see the website is available so i assume all is ok but i am just wondering. I am moving to the PRC for work in the next few weeks and am wondering if anyone knows whether or not there are any issues with buying products, updating and connecting to MP servers over there? I may cry if there is bad news... ShuRugal Posted July 28, 2014 Posted July 28, 2014 (edited) If there are problems, any good proxy server will fix 'em. The only thing spectacular about the Chinese National Firewall is the quantity of holes in it. EDIT: found this tool: http://www.greatfirewallofchina.org/index.php?siteurl=www.digitalcombatsimulator.com looks like you should be good. Edited July 28, 2014 by ShuRugal
Tek Posted July 28, 2014 Author Posted July 28, 2014 Thanks, that is what i have been using to check which sites work. I am confident the site works so i can buy modules but i am not that aware about how using servers etc works. I thought that VPN's just circumvent browser connection issues and have no effect on online gameplay/downloading etc. I feel kind of silly really as i consider myself a tech savvy guy but i have no idea about networking really. Alicatt Posted July 28, 2014 Posted July 28, 2014 I can remember sharing my desktop with a friend from Shanghai so she could browse the interwebs without the GFofC blocking her. It shook a lot of beliefs she had and it took her a little while to recover from the shock of finding out what the rest of the world knew about her country. Now a good many years on she has a very good job as game producer with a software company in china and a few awards under her belt. She has travelled around the world a lot more than I have and even came to visit me here in Belgium. She was traveling with a couple of friends and a thug of a minder to make sure they returned to China when the visit was over. I know she uses a vpn to get out past the great firewall, and last Friday I pointed her at this site as her next project involves flight simulation but not to the level of DCS. But you should take care that the ping for connecting those hot servers could be as high as 300+ or even 400. But it does not impact the game experience too much once no data package missing during internet trans. Sometimes, you may not be able to connect to the master server, but it rarely happened. In all, do not worry. billeinstein Posted August 5, 2014 Posted August 5, 2014 I'm in Shanghai. It's OK in China. No proxy is needed. You may find some servers in China with good network connection. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

26-J39 Posted August 6, 2014 Posted August 6, 2014 From there it seems that youtube is blocked? Why... Simply because governments ultimately do not want an intelligent critical thinking population. It threatens their cozy positions. ;)
Tek Posted August 6, 2014 Author Posted August 6, 2014 ^pretty much. As has been said before though the Chinese population is intelligent and critical thinking enough to get around this censorship.
