leo96 Posted August 23, 2014 Posted August 23, 2014 (edited) Hello all: After some years of FSX , Rise of flight , war thunder etc I started to have the need for something new in aviation. I came across DCS World and after looking at it I just needed to have it. I now have DCS world with FC3 . My question is besides reading all the manuals: interface, FC3, plane etc , my question is where do I start ? there is so much to learn , but I am willing to go step by step. which plane would you recommend to start off with to get the hang of things ? any help would be great. thanks in advance and hope top see you soon in the skies !! , regards Leo Edited August 24, 2014 by leo96 DCS world with FC3 , Rise of Flight, War Thunder, FSX, X plane 10. pc: asus mobo corshair v formula z with 32gb ram 1.333mhz cpu: amd FX 8350 GPU: sapphire r 9 280 x oc 3gb case> NZXT Phantom 830 with 7 air fans corsair H100i water cooler coolermaster 1000 w psu all Saitek panels, ch rudders, Saitek yoke, throttles, x52 pro also 3 monitors win 7 ultimate 64 bits
eekz Posted August 23, 2014 Posted August 23, 2014 I started with P-51D. It has good interactive tutorial missions. VIRPIL Controls Servers
HiJack Posted August 23, 2014 Posted August 23, 2014 If you want to fly Russian aircrafts start with Su-25T and learn takeoff, navigation and landing. Then go further with the Su-27 and at last the MiG-29. If you like to fly American aircrafts then start with the A-10A and learn takeoff, navigation and landing. Then go with the F-15C and do the same. In the same process learn to make small small training missions in the mission editor. Start off with soft vehicles that is at a fixed location and learn all the different weapons. You have years upon years of fun just by doing this for all the aircrafts. And learn to fly them all!
Ironhand Posted August 24, 2014 Posted August 24, 2014 Basically, I'd go with what HiJAck said, though, if you want to try the Russian aircraft, I'd recommend starting with the Su-27. It'll fly more like the FSX aircraft you're used to. Then transition to the -25T. esb77 Posted August 24, 2014 Posted August 24, 2014 I started on the Su-25T, and liked it so much that it's still my favorite, though I'd wager that changes whenever they get around to releasing an AFM for the Su-27. The Su-25T and the A-10 C (which is a separate module purchase) both have a fair number of tutorial missions included as part of the game. Also unless it's been taken down since last time I looked, if you look at the Flankertraining website in Ironhand's signature there are a whole bunch of useful training videos for the Su-25 and Su-27. There are some fairly good ones on youtube as well, at least for the Su-25. Some of the info may have changed, for example some of the missiles have lost on the order of 20-50% of their effective range since the old days (yeah, I'm looking at you Kh-25L) but the basics are all still valid, and doing the basics well is what makes you a really effective pilot. For the quickest possible in cockpit training probably start with the included Su-25T training missions from DCS World. Just beware those crosswind landings. Callsign "Auger". It could mean to predict the future or a tool for boring large holes. I combine the two by predictably boring large holes in the ground with my plane.
Sceptre Posted August 24, 2014 Posted August 24, 2014 I think you will enjoy the MiG-21 if you like the Su-25 :) RTX 2070 8GB | 32GB DDR4 2666 RAM | AMD Ryzen 5 3600 4.2Ghz | Asrock X570 | CH Fighterstick/Pro Throttle | TM MFDs | TrackIR 5

You'll get a feel for what some of the aircraft can do and that might help you decide. Although the videos were originally created for an earlier version of Flaming Cliffs, I've left the site up because a number of people have let me know that they're still learning quite a lot from them. And welcome to DCS and FC3. If you enjoy military flight sims, you're in for quite a ride. :) Rich YouTube Channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCU1...CR6IZ7crfdZxDg _____ Win 11 Pro x64, Asrock Z790 Steel Legend MoBo, Intel i7-13700K, MSI RKT 4070 Super 12GB, Corsair Dominator DDR5 RAM 32GB.
leo96 Posted August 24, 2014 Author Posted August 24, 2014 Thank you Rich , I'll take a look at it . I think I decided for American first. I was thinking that if I need to learn the basics I need to be able to read the instruments in English and understand the incoming radio messages , starting off with Russian airplanes I see everything in Russian and the radio is killing me and I don't know what it is saying lol . I;ve been looking in the forum if this can be changed but it seems it cant . I'll take a look at your site , thanks , regards Leo DCS world with FC3 , Rise of Flight, War Thunder, FSX, X plane 10. pc: asus mobo corshair v formula z with 32gb ram 1.333mhz cpu: amd FX 8350 GPU: sapphire r 9 280 x oc 3gb case> NZXT Phantom 830 with 7 air fans corsair H100i water cooler coolermaster 1000 w psu all Saitek panels, ch rudders, Saitek yoke, throttles, x52 pro also 3 monitors win 7 ultimate 64 bits
Zabuzard Posted August 24, 2014 Posted August 24, 2014 Theres an option in the settings where you can set english as language, this will display the russian HUD and the radio SUBtitles in english. The cockpit interior will remain russian but since youll not need the switches because FC3 ACs are not implemented so in depth that should work without knowing any russian :]
leo96 Posted August 24, 2014 Author Posted August 24, 2014 AHH thank you Zabuza !! Ironhand Posted August 25, 2014 Posted August 25, 2014 (edited) :) The same or similar questions come up over and over again. And, for the most part no one minds responding. It will only get annoying when it's obvious that the person asking the questions never bothered making even the simplest of searches. But don't spend hours and hours searching, either. After all, your time is just as valuable as anyone else's. :) All things in moderation.
