nickexists Posted September 12, 2014 Posted September 12, 2014 I just tried the first mission of the georgian hammer with CA campaign and I got shot down by an osa. I recognize that I could easily load up a maverick and take care of it. I just thought it was kind of weird to have a familiarization flight mission that starts you unarmed and then force the player to fly well within the striking range of a SAM in order to complete the mission. Any thoughts on this?
Teriander Posted September 12, 2014 Posted September 12, 2014 I haven't done the CA version, but what about the mission forces you to fly at such low altitude? I can't imagine you're required to fly at very low Altitude for this mission. I've also found that some of the default flight plan mission Altitude waypoints are set at unrealistic levels. For example, in the Georgian Hammer non-CA version, I was sent on a mission to destroy a bridge with GBU-10s (2,000lb) bombs, yet the bridge waypoint was set at about 500ft. No way I would have dropped the bomb at this altitude.

ED Team NineLine Posted September 13, 2014 ED Team Posted September 13, 2014 Ok, just checked it out, seems the range on the Sa-8 has changed, its been reported and should be fixed soon. Thanks! Forum Rules • My YouTube • My Discord - NineLine#0440• **How to Report a Bug**

ED Team NineLine Posted September 13, 2014 ED Team Posted September 13, 2014 (edited) Seriously? Ancient problem. Seriously did you read the whole thread? Not to mention your issue back then was slightly different.... ;) Edited September 13, 2014 by NineLine Forum Rules • My YouTube • My Discord - NineLine#0440• **How to Report a Bug**
Yurgon Posted September 13, 2014 Posted September 13, 2014 Seriously did you read the whole thread? You mean the thread I started when the campaign was freshly released? Yes, I did, and I believe the original question was never answered. Or do you mean this thread? In that case, well, yes, I did. What are you referring to? Not to mention your issue back then was slightly different.... ;) It was a fam flight and I got shot down. Now it's about a fam flight and the OP got shot down. In what way is it different? I just downloaded the campaign from the user files section and re-flew the first mission. This time, it played out almost exactly like I remember it: see track (track was too big to attach to post; link will most likely expire some months from now). It's an SA-8 Osa that shot at me this time and that shot down my wingman. I followed the flight plan more or less to precisely. So, once again, is the idea behind the mission to teach newcomers "Hey, newbie, don't follow the flight plan, it'll get you killed. Haha!" or is it "Okay, listen, this is what the AO looks like, we'll just take a quick look and then return before we see any real action"? In either case, in its current state this is a badly designed mission. :(
ED Team NineLine Posted September 13, 2014 ED Team Posted September 13, 2014 Or do you mean this thread? In that case, well, yes, I did. Well then you read the part were it was identified and the problem will be fixed? The thread you referenced some time ago might have been similar but people were still able to complete the mission by sticking to the flight plan. (fact is I flew that mission not so long ago with no issue) Anyways, as I said, it will be fixed internally. Forum Rules • My YouTube • My Discord - NineLine#0440• **How to Report a Bug**
Yurgon Posted September 13, 2014 Posted September 13, 2014 Well then you read the part were it was identified and the problem will be fixed? Yes, again, I did. I read: "Ok, just checked it out, seems the range on the Sa-8 has changed [...]" I therefore assumed that you attributed the problem to a recent change. To the best of my knowledge (and I just invested some 2 or 3 hours just to make sure I didn't give any outdated information) that's not the case: as far as I can tell the problem has been the same ever since this campaign has been released. The thread you referenced some time ago might have been similar but people were still able to complete the mission by sticking to the flight plan. (fact is I flew that mission not so long ago with no issue) I don't think it was ever claimed this would happen all the time. It's just an observation the OP and I both made and our observations seem very much alike. And, again, there was never any answer to my previously referenced thread (except for an initial attempt by Nate). Anyways, as I said, it will be fixed internally. Thanks.
nickexists Posted September 13, 2014 Author Posted September 13, 2014 Thanks for clearing that up. I retried it with a maverick this time and had no problem. I imagine that if the range of the sa8 has increased that will make many of the campaign missions much harder.
ED Team Wags Posted September 13, 2014 ED Team Posted September 13, 2014 As has been stated, this has already been addressed for the next update. Between the time the mission was created and when the campaign was released, the range of the Sa-8 appears to have changed.
