DaveRindner Posted September 21, 2014 Posted September 21, 2014 Is it feasable for ED to develop access to Google Earth and use it. Instead of creating its own database and map?

Metal Hawk Posted September 21, 2014 Posted September 21, 2014 What would be the point? The DCS World is NOT 100% identical with the real world. If you made a mission based on google earth maps, inside DCS you would be looking for buildings and terrain that will simply be absent from the digital world.
Vedexent Posted September 21, 2014 Posted September 21, 2014 I'm not sure how expensive this would be for ED to license - but probably prohibitively so. I have not seen a game yet that uses this, and I suspect that's why - although I haven't seen all games, of course

VincentLaw Posted September 27, 2014 Posted September 27, 2014 I have not seen a game yet that uses thisgefs-online uses google earth data for its map. There are a lot of height map artifacts though, so sometimes the runway has airplane sized bumps on it. If ED used google earth for it's maps they would be much lower quality than what they have planned with EDGE. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
